Naked GoPro How To Decase A GoPro Hero 8 4K

I decased my gopro hero 8 yesterday for the first time, here are some things I wish I knew earlier: Put the camera in 4K recording for about 15min, it heats up from the inside, making the tight glue much easier to overcome. I took the top part off in one piece with a metal pry tool, honestly really easy! The rest was also quite easy, just always use plastic tools for the connectors so you don’t scratch them And be gentle with the front screen, I didn’t manage to get completely under it and I cracked it. I should have heated that one up as well. Hope this helps somebody!

Hey just on a whim I saw a good deal on two broken GoPro hero 8s, I hear a lot of people say that the charging circuits go bad sometimes or they just stop working randomly. Considering there’s two of them do you think there’s a good chance of salvaging good parts from the both of them and pulling of at least one naked go pro? I would hope that it’s a charging issue because if I’m soldering a bec to it then that won’t matter.

I bought a used GP for decasing. Taking apart was much easier for me compared to Martin here, the problem was the tiny screen. I cracked it while trying to get it out. Even after cracking, getting it out with force was hard. That mfer was in there STRONG. You should definitely heat it up before trying to pry it out. Don't use metal tools for that! Replacement is about 10bucks on ali tho.

No, the BEC need more than 5v in as it puts out 5v. Wire the BEC wires to the FC battery pads.

Yes, that’s what I’m talking about too. Using the original mic. You can plug it back on the GoPro board. I don’t know if you’ll have to modify the naked GoPro case to make it work.

Yes, you can solder directly to the BEC. As for the FC, 9V pad should work. If not, you can solder to the FC’s “+” and “-“ battery pads too.

The naked 8 does not unless you hook up the mic back to the board. You will have to modify the case to make it work. I’ve seen it done but I haven’t done it myself.

I highly recommend using GoPro labs firmware. That way you’re guaranteed to not have issues once you take it apart.

Hi Martin Nice instructive video ! I broke the front display during stripping. Will the camera work without the display once in its new (GepRC) case ? Obviously I cannot see the settings, but maybe I can still see those on my iPhone ?

The GoPro will still work without the front display and you can still connect to it with your phone.

man I have a broken back screen on my Hero8 black and it isn't connected to me phone :( its pretty much useless to do any setting changes or anything and I wanted to strip it to be a naked setup.

See if you can install GoPro Labs on it. If so, then you can use a QR code to trigger the Bluetooth/WiFi connection again.

I followed this video with my hero 8 and when I powered it up after i finished the process, it shows "SD ERROR" and will not let me record. Any idea where I may have went wrong? The gopro still connects and shows picture on my phone & works with the gopro remote. Also I should mention I tried formatting the card in camera and on my computer as well as trying multiple different SD cards.

Hi Martin and thanks for the video, When I connect it to the geprc board i have a few of issues. 1. Power and Record switches do not work. 2. "GoPro Quick" phone app does not see the GoPro. (Is wi-fi module not on the gopro main board?) when I connect gopro back to its origin everything works fine. Have you experienced anything like that ?

Sounds like a bad BEC. Try installing GoPro labs on it. See if it help. Then you can use QR codes to control the GoPro

@@ahmedaly2022 it sounds like your battery is completely dead. Have you tried a different battery? If the problem persists. It could be an internal issue. I would check the little prongs at the bottom of the battery tray where the battery connects to. see if one is bent. Also, you know that the GoPro subscription is $50 a year. You get 2 free replacements a year, no questions asked.

I’ve seen some for the 8. But you’ll have to download an STL file and print it. Try www.thingiverse.com or cults3d.com and I don’t think the STL free but maybe…
