While I like the explanations and all, the IF_CONTAINS already exists in the form of REGEXMATCH(text, regular_expression), so you could write REGEXMATCH("June", "Ju") and it would come back with TRUE while REGEXMATCH("May", "Ju") would come back as FALSE. -Apart from REGEXMATCH you can use REGEX-expressions in REGEXREPLACE, REGEXEXTRACT and in QUERY with MATCHES.
