Stopped by Friday and was impressed with the 2 new Studio amps! Steve from Marshall was very gracious to talk. He took the time to speak and play the Studio Vintage. A CRUNCH FAT sound. Loved it! Thanks Steve and Marshall!

Having played both of them, and owning their older, bigger brothers, these are the real deal. Price point in US is debatable, but worth every penny for $1300. There are obviously people that do high quality Marshall clones for this price, but being able to hear a legit plexi at usable volume in incredible.

I think they sound like the real deal. I'm into these smaller vertical 2x12 rigs. I have been playing both a tiny terror and OR15 through a 1968 vertical Orange cab w/old g12m speakers. Killer tones! I got the lil Orange heads used so very inexpensive. Now these 20 watt Marshall's got my attention so I will be checking them out for sure. Cool they run on EL34's and are 20 loud watts. Did anyone else notice how loud the ORIGIN series are? For me Marshalls have the sound I prefer. I'd like to get one of each of these.

@TheyreStillOutThere
@TheyreStillOutThere 5 жыл бұрын
@@NickMass35 True, the smaller sizes are nice. Although master volume on a vintage 50 watt amp helps keep volumes reasonable, and being brand new isn't a selling point for me personally. I'll buy a serviced vintage silverface Fender or a serviced vintage JCM800 long before I'd buy new reissues at the same price point. I'm not a vintage amp snob, I just like cool old junk and like the idea of keeping an old workhorse in service. The solid resale values are nice, too.

It depends. In Canada I can't find an original un-modded 800 for < $2500 CAD. I'm pretty excited about a 20W JCM800 or JMP that I can buy brand new and was built in the UK. The prices are steep though. I'll wait to see what the prices are like up here, but I'll definitely be checking them out.

I think you really missed the point - unlike the Marshall group in this case. 30 years ago the driver was wannabe rock stars playing in a gazillion bands. Today the driver is bedroom/home studio players and the new format will be a goldmine for Marshall. The master volume is fine...... unless you want to maintain that sweet singing tone.

So... $241 more will get you a soldano astroverb head. If you like JCM800-like crunch (or better) and a smooth lead tone without fuzz and grit on single-notes I recommend it. And you don't have to crank the power section to get a good sound on a soldano. You can play at whisper volumes with people asleep in your house. Same tone!
@erikvaldur3334
@erikvaldur3334 5 жыл бұрын
StratMatt777. that is a great amp. I had a 2. 12 combo with 15 watt weber blue dog alnico speakers. that amp sounded great but the Marshalls have just a little something special. I had a few Soldano amps, Reinhardt 18, many others but always went for my JMP 50 watt lead bass. It might even be imperfections that I missed but I always just missed something when playin the Astro or others. just my opinion. I do wish I still had that Astroverb though. It just didn't have enough clean headroom to play with my band at the time. I needed clean and dirty. It was almost there but I couldn't get the volume over 3 at all or it broke up.
@StratMatt777

@@erikvaldur3334 said "but the Marshalls have just a little something special. I had a few Soldano amps, Reinhardt 18, many others but always went for my JMP 50 watt lead bass...." After Mike Soldano told me that they bias their power tubes as cold as possible for accurate sound reproduction I warmed up my bias just a bit. This was probably 15 years ago... I think I was trying to get "something" more out of it and I think the result was the completely smooth gritless lead tone I have even with the gain at 9 or 11. I think. That was a long time ago! I have never been impressed with the handful of astroverbs I tried (years ago) when a music store would have a used one. I don't know if it is the Eminence speaker or my warmer bias or my preamp or power tubes, but they always sound like grit machines to me. I can tell you that the 1x12 combo cab has an unpleasant boxy sound to it at bedroom volumes (I've got a G12H30 in mine). At home I always run through my 2x12 with a Vintage 30 and a Warehouse Guitar Speaker Retro 30. "It just didn't have enough clean headroom to play with my band at the time. I needed clean and dirty. It was almost there but I couldn't get the volume over 3 at all or it broke up." Yeah, my clean channel is a Fender Blues Jr.! But, actually, several years ago I was regularly playing my astroverb with a band in a small church and in a movie theater they leased... I was using the 1x12 combo with the G12H30 and running the master around 8.5 and the preamp probably around 7.5 or 7.0 with a Strat with a humbucker in the bridge. Playing chords with the humbucker I was getting significant good sounding heavy distortion, but I also got a pretty good clean tone by switching to my neck single coil (which was a Dimarzio HS-3- a very low output hum cancelling pickup) and picking lightly. Thinking back on it, I'm kind of amazed that I got such a clean tone out of it! soldanos are known for cleaning up in response to picking dynamics or volume very well. Is a JMP50 an old 1960s era amp? Would you say that Marshalls are "spongier" (more dynamic?) than soldanos because they are actually compressing the power tubes, wheras soldano's are designed for the power section to not alter the preamp's tone?
@erikvaldur3334
@erikvaldur3334 5 жыл бұрын
StratMatt777 mine is a 1977 JMP. much different than the 60s Marshalls. I might say it is a bit spongier than the Soldanos I have had. the notes seem to pop a little more with my/ the Marshalls to me. The Soldanos sound great but seem just a bit flat, less lively to play. really just splitting hairs here as it's not that pronounced a difference to me but it is there to my ear,feel.

@StratMatt777 5 жыл бұрын
@@spada60 The point is that these single-channel amps are overpriced. Spending in excess of $1,200 on an automated assembly-line amp and not getting a second channel is pretty odd. This is a marketing ploy based on the mystique of the JCM800, which wasn't even considered to be a "holy grail" amp in the 1980s when it was the current Marshall amp. If people like these amps because they have the sound that they are going for, then they should absolutely buy them and enjoy them!

What about the Jubilee?! Also, I really wish they had made a JCM2000 and/or a JVM version. I love my JVM, but it’s hard to use it every day, because neighbours. Having a 20W, 2-channel version of the JVM would make the perfect practice amp. Between the 6 modes, you could have clean, crunch, rhythm and lead sounds without the need for a boost. And 20W lowerable (is that a word?) to 5W would mean I could use it at midnight without having the police knocking on my door.
