Nice recording, but the low input sound is totally different than the high, much cleaner. Missed that one.

Are you running this through that attenuator on top of that amp?
@kevinblythe21924 жыл бұрын
The Ox is a very fancy and expensive attenuator (it has many other features) but why did they not demonstrate the amp using its own attenuated 5 w setting? Doesn't make any sense other than the built in attenuator makes it sound like shit. I have never seen a 20 watt amp demonstrated before using an attenuator. Must be a really f*cking loud 20 watts.
@billyc66782 жыл бұрын
@@kevinblythe2192 it’s very loud for a 20w amp. Even on 5w it’s too loud for a bedroom amp. I use an attenuator with mine cos I live an apt building with very thin walls and I like to play at night.
@yearginclarke Жыл бұрын
@@billyc6678 Yes 20 watts with these amps is VERY loud, and I believe tube amps are louder than solid states. And I know what you mean about living in apartments with thin walls, I use an attenuator also for this reason.

The problem is if you want to play a clean song live then you are screwed because you have to turn down the volume and gain so low that the drummer blows you away. It's kinda like you need to pair up with a Fender when gigging with this.

What do you use to switch between the High/Low Sensitivity channels?
@MadMagicPaul5 жыл бұрын
You don't. If it's wired like the 100W version using 1 input automatically mutes the other input. It's a single channel amp. No switching, not even with an external AB box.

Magic Paul that’s a deal breaker for me. What a pity.
@MadMagicPaul5 жыл бұрын
@@669rd You can do it in another way - something like the HBE Detox or the Mad Professor Under-drive. They are gain reducing pedals with EQ designed to do a better job of gain reduction than just lowering the guitar volume control. They were introduced to be used with high gain single channel amps. I had the HBE pedal with a Suhr amp and it was very effective.

@Teleman764 жыл бұрын
Michael Boone the brightness is the recording. The Dirty Shirley was replaced by this one and it’s definitely more Marshall than the DS. The Friedman is a great amp, not sure about the choice of EL-84 in the DS though. For me, this is as close to my 78 JMP 2204 and 81 2203 that I have found. It’s perfect for home or studio use whereas I can’t play my older ones where they sound decent at a manageable volume. It’s a great little amp no doubt.

@@Teleman76 I agree. Something about el84 amps that are Marshall voiced have an annoying spike that never sounds quite right compared to el34

So many people judging an amp solely from a KZbin video. Usually people who ‘defend’ the said amp actually own and play regularly with it without any problem as said by the commenter. I’ve seen in KZbin a Mesa Mark V sound flubby and ‘broken’ and while other videos show the versatility of the tones to make even Mesa haters weep in happiness.
