Depending on your age/taste I'd say Gibson + Super or Deluxe Reverb = Life completed. Most of my favourite blues/hard rock bands and artists plugged dark guitars in to bright amps not dark guitars in to dark amps. Exception being Slash obvs.

wozzlepop the fact is, Gibsons can sound great through Fender, Vox, and (obviously) Marshall amps, and many others. Likewise, Fenders sound great through all these amp brands as well. A good player will get great sounds out of good quality gear. Joe Walsh makes a Les Paul sound great through a Fender Super Reverb.

Myanmar Media Light Yes, indeed, but if you are prepared to put in a bit more work, a Strat can sound pretty special with one, also. I have a Strat, two Les Pauls (Standard and Studio), a Telecaster, an Ovation Celebrity Deluxe, and a JCM 800 combo. I can get great sounds from any of those guitars.

These are great new mini amps Marshall made! I'm surprised they didn't make these years ago! I don't like how the 2x12 cabinet sounded with the mini JCM 800, but I think both amps would sound awesome with the older English made Celestions like the G12M backbacks, G12-65s, G12M70s, G12H100s, and G12T75s from the 80s to early 90s!!!

Yes.....zZounds is my go to store. Everything about them is wonderful. I watched this video after buying it and was wondering the same thing when he mentioned the price. I paid $1300 for the head version. For a long time I was hoping Marshall would do this and finally they did. I got the mini Jubilee head when it first came out and it never really hit me. It just didn't have that JCM sound that I love so I sold it. So being a Marshall fan I bought the DSL 15 combo and love it. The JCM 800 is my all time favorite amp. So maybe after I have this for awhile I can talk the wife into letting me get the JTM also. @@AD1978leo

5 watts at 50% volume still hits 110dB on their meter. The reality is 20 watts is only 7-8 dB quieter than 100 watts. I feel like the real deal JCM 800 could be found for less. Either way for practical purposes you'll still need an attenuater or re-amping/slave solution for great tones at low volumes. I've got a 30 watt Astoria with a 5 watt setting and it will peel paint off the walls and kill rodents within 100 yards at full tilt.

A torpedo captor is a wonderful investment, it cuts my OR15 to a fraction of a fraction of a watt and still sounds great. At the same time if Marshall made this 1 watt it would still be loud and people would still find a way to complain. If your living situation requires something quieter you will just have to invest in some sort of quality attenuator as no valve amp will really deliver.

Del Rei Rock that is because they played in 5 watt mode half way up at the loudest point. Very unrealistic demo. no juice in the power tubes yet. If they are EL34 tubes, they need full blast from a 20 watt power section to fill up almost half way. EL34s can achieve 20 to 25 watts each. If there are 2 in here, 20 watts wouldn't get em half way filled up.

Jakexx01 These 20 watters may be perfect for a lot of players, but they simply don't move enough air for my personal taste. To my ears, the best sounding Marshall has always been the JTM50 because of it's unmistakable clean headroom.. It's like a cosmic super Blackface on steroids if you're using capable, high power , efficient speakers, volume around 4 or 5 and the tone knobs set just right. I'd gladly take it over a Dumble SSS. A bold clean tone at a giggable volume. Use proper quality pedals in the front to taste. Just one man's opinion.

Looks pretty good (like to see inside the beast, though): But I spent less $ for a Ceriatone JTM-45 (112 combo), and it's the best money ever spent on a 'Marshall.' Oh, yeah, and another 99 bucks for a Bugera PS-1 attenuator which is all I need (for now...). In less that a year, Reverb will be chock full of these at a (much) better price; I'll see what I think of them then...

Steve K incorrect, you should hear a significant difference otherwise there wouldn’t be any need for cab simulation when using Axe, Kemper etc. or even live for that matter. When you mic a single speaker from any kind of cab, process it in the DAW, upload to youtube, download back to a smart phone or computer speakers, the difference becomes less noticeable. Steve K well we’ll agree to disagree. To me a speaker will always sound better or different in a bigger box! In any case the speakers they’re using are v type!!! What are they? Which is half my point. Most will want to hear them through tried and tested speakers like Greenbacks, Creambacks, Vintage 30’s, G12t 75’s etc. because most will already have those cabs whether 1x12, 2x12 or 4x12.

@nikolajnb3774
@nikolajnb3774 5 жыл бұрын
I would use a ds-1 as boost. This is because a tube screamer is very mid punchy, and so is marshall amps overall. If you use a ds-1 instead, which has a lot less mid boost, it will match better. I got both, and a marshall jcm 800 from 1985 aswell, and all i can say is that ds-1 kills ts for thrash metal and other 80s metal. Hits the spot much better. That being said, a ts is good too, no doubt.. But if you want truly killer thrash tones, go with boss ds-1, or even better, the analogman moded ds-1

ok. you asked what we think. Why did you not play in 20 watt mode?????? there is zero bottom in 5 watt mode. I would love to hear a realistic demo. from this clip, plexy sounds ok at best. JCM sounds a bit better but if this is how they sound in 20 watt mode, very unimpressive to me. Much too thin sounding. please make a demo in 20 watt mode, fully cranked. That is what a 20 watt tube amp is for. cummon guys, get those tubes workin. so I just got back from Andertons demo. This plexi is pretty bad ass with channels jumped and volume dimed Very impressive lil tone machine. I love the loop option too. gotta go back n check out the JCM, rest of the clip. Plexi is a Smokin lil amps

These are neat but toys imo. Don’t really see a point when you can find a jcm800 50w for cheaper. And I’ve had 20w heads before that get lost in the mix. Although those amps didn’t push the mids as much as a Marshall I just don’t understand the price point. I’d much rather spend a few hundred bucks less and snag a used JVM50w that’s more versatile, sounds good at low volume, and can be loud enough to play without needing to mic up if need be.

I truly recommend trying these before deciding if they cut through or not. They impressed me a lot and I'm really picky. Ha ha! I see what you mean, but you're compairing used prices with new ones. That's not helping a lot. Everything is cheaper used than new, no surprises there. Also 999€ for a made in UK head is not at all unreasonable. //cheers, Kris

Marshall should have added a 1W or 0.5W option because 5W is still far too loud in today's standards. Also I notice the Vintage version starts to crunch very soon.

Well these are still amps for gigging players and studios (hence the name). They offer amps that go lower on wattage in their DSL and Origin range. But with a good power attenuator (or a load box + IRs) you can definitely use these at home too. //cheers, Kris

Marshall should be focusing on modeling and profiling amps because I heard a guy playing through Guitar Rig 5 and could have sworn it was a Blackface. Thing is, GR5 is cheap as hell and offers a player many more options. Jump up in cash to the Helix, Axe FX or the Kemper and it's just insane. I love my amps, but the next bit of gear I'm getting is going to be digital.

I've listened to all the demo's on KZbin. Doesn't sound like a JCM 800 to me. Maybe it's that crappy V-Type speaker? Sounds so thin with no bottom end. Still would like to demo one. However no guitar store yet has any to demo in the U.S.A. It's like buying a car without driving it. Crazy Shit. I can't see how it can sound the same. With all the modern components in the back and only 20 watts for an EL34? t's like the newer Silver JJubiless. They don't sound like the ones made in the 80's. But it might be close enough. 5 Watts is half the power of the 2204 50 Watt JCM 800.

There's very little that can be done in an apartment. Even an acoustic could be considered loud in some. And really....even with a small amp we want to turn it up to get some satisfaction. Might as well have a modeller or Yamaha THX or Boss Air for apartment playing. A Marshall head does not make sense.
@cgavin1
@cgavin1 5 жыл бұрын
100db is the bare minimum you can play an electric guitar and not sound shit tho. If you can't play at that volume in an apartment literally your only viable alternative is either headphones or monitors and a PC software amp. IMHO most tube amps don't sound even half good, even master volume ones, below 150db.

@@cgavin1 *That 👏 Should 👏 Be 👏 Mentioned 👏 More, I 👏 Don't 👏 See 👏 It 👏 Be 👏 Ever 👏 Mentioned* 👏 Years ago I bought a small Marshall amp and was so pissed off how shitty it sounded, I couldn't ever go more than less than the quarter way up because that was already crazy loud, and I don't think whole apartment building would like to hear someone learning to play guitar. Also in that case, how guitar players don't have damaged hearing? Or they do?

Nonsense about the speakers. The JCM800 sounds best with the lower sensitivity G12-65s like it shipped with from the factory. V-type is such a boring speaker. Why then not a WGS or Eminence custom speaker voiced like a G12M, G12H or the G12-65s... V-type got slapped in the origin series which is my bet why it is in this amp too. Contracts with Celestion and what not most likely. Price is not an issue. Yeah sure mate.

I’m not sure why Marshall consistently voice their reissues so trebly, the 1987x sound nothing like an original and the JCM800 Sound again too bright to my ears. The SLP was instantly bright funny how Metropolous and Dr Dan can get them to sound correct.

Son of Yeti [ if that is the spelling] smokes both of these. at least from this cute lil clip. these might sound better if cranked in 20 watt mode to flood the tubes. I dunno, they wussed out big time in this clip. IMHO. I would still like to hear these, especially the JCM with the power tubes workin too. They might have a chance against the son of yetti then. No gas here. gonna keep playin my JMP 50 watt lead bass or JTM 30. still gassing for the son of yetti I guess.

It doesn't even sound close to a real 100 watter... especially running 2 EL 34s at 20 watts is not the same as running them at the rated 25 - 30 watts x 2 or 4 tubes. Ultimate Attenuater and a 50 or 100 watt head sounds much better. That JCM 800 Studio sounds too woody...
