Why people are not mobbing the stage is beyond me. The band that blew up the hair band/guitar wizard craze, the band that flew above 90's grunge era.. I take cranking this tune over any 80's....love George, Edward, Jake, Akira, Yngwie, Meniketti, Travers, Thrall, Slash, Shawn, Paul, Warren but the stun power of Ty and the entire band stands alone, as far as rock music goes. Soulful healing stuff that was more intimate on a personal level. Don't believe me? Next rough time you go through, pick an album and listen.

+dodge peters Aren't they considered "local" to the Houston area? Yeah, I've been following them Since "Silent Planet"....I was raised Christianist and recognized the title of their first CD as being that of a C.S. Lewis book. Ty Tabor and Jerry Gaskill, the guitarist and drummer, had played in Dallas-based Jimmy Swaggart Ministries' "tent revival" band. They were Born-Again Christians whereas Doug Pinnick was raised in a black-Christian denomination. Doug liked ALL kinds of music, steered towards hard rock, but found white hard rock musicians were racist dicks who didn't have him come back after one try-out. For rock, a bass-guitarist/lead-singer is a dream-come-true....Ty and Jerry cited Christianity as their reason for not being racist shit-heads. Thus, the three best exemplified being raised in Christian religion as they formed a power trio rock band but also chose not to be part of the Petra/Resurrection Band Christian Rock scene. Good. Because Doug is also a gay man and found that where Christianity accepted him as a black man, it rejected, denounced and condemned him as a gay man...Tabor and Gaskill followed Pinnick out of the Christian church.

This comment may be almost a decade late in this thread. Listen to the lyrics dug changed.. he isn't bad mouthing God at all. He went from certainty in the original lyrics to a doubting questioning approach. Even the middle line he says he's getting tired of waiting. He's still singing about the hope, he's just confused. What people of faith haven't been there? Read your Bible. David, Job, Paul, all Got frustrated with God. I've recently returned to my faith after decades of confusion. And in some ways I'm still in the dark. It ain't over till it's over. God used Kings X music in a massive way. Let God do his work and continue to pray for dug and the band. One thing I've learned Is God is the God of the unexpected.

@Thirdgen83 dUg is the man. He doesn't rant; he writes and expresses about what he's been through and learned in life. Meaning he's a true artist. Take it how you want it (this is what "Fly" by King's X is about) but I think his secular sermons are filled with hope, wisdom, and courage to believe in oneself; perhaps before believing in a higher power. All the best!
@troyevitt24374 жыл бұрын
He's ranting a little and with good cause. This band started out as one of those "Christians in a secular band" bands. The fist album was the title of a CS Lewis book. Then dUg came out as gay and the Christian world disavowed him. He's railing against a god who is no longer real to him.

@@troyevitt2437 that is the pain of offense .. as i have also had unfortunate experiences with people in the church , had healing and I'm better off today .. Dug has reason to rant but until he forgives those who disavowed him for being gay , there will always be someone that would make his experience accurate and that's sad .. because God isn't that at all

@troyevitt24374 жыл бұрын
They began as believing Christians and friends of the Christian Rock band "Petra". Their first CD's title was the title of a CS Lewis novel and Faith, Hope, Love contained an entire passage from the New Testament about the Holy Ghost in the liner notes. The whole time, dUg was actually a closeted gay man and when he came out, the Christian world defected away from KX in en masse. This is a song from their first CD and now dUG is railing against a god who is no longer real to him.

I have to think that the main reason that dUg is a little bitter would be the death threats and hate mail that he received from a people of supposed unconditional love when he came out. Let's see how right-wing christian society in the mid 90's responds to a christian coming out of the closet. If he is bitter good for him. I think it's OK to question a "god of love" on why that love was removed at his time of need. The fact that he questions at all is amazing to me.

He's ranting as an ex-Christian. The whole band started out as 3 born-again Christians and friends of Christian Rock band Petra. Their first CD was the same title as that of a C.S. Lewis novel, "Out of the Silent Planet". "Faith, Hope, Love" had an entire New Testament passage in the liner notes. Then dUg came out as gay and the Christians in their fan base shat their collective panties.

@Brah Brutha It's from their first CD when they were still Believers.They had friends among many of the 80s Christian Rock bands, but, like the singer from Hawk Nelson, they began to unplug from the Christendom Matrix before dUg (Bass, Vox) came out. Oh Lord, it gets so complicated Oh Lord, I don't know what to do God, it looks so hopeless But I know, it isn't true What is this that gives me hope In the middle of the night And makes me turn to You? What is this that lights my way Through the hours of the day Tell me what to do? Oh Lord, they say that I don't know You Oh Lord, they say I am deceived God, You tell me different I have no choice but to believe What is this that gives me hope In the middle of the night Makes me run to You? What is this that lights my way Through the hours of the day? Tell me that it's Oh, they make you feel so foolish Oh, they make You out the fool God, it looks so hopeless But I know it isn't true What is this that gives me hope In the middle of the night Makes me turn to You? What is this that lights my way Through the hours of the day? Tell me that it's You

@Brah Brutha He's also not in compliance with the rantings of Mohamed in the Qu'ran, with the ramblings of the Bhagavad Gita, and he fails to ritually carve the still-beating heart out of human beings as demanded by the winged serpent deity, Quetzalcoatl. You violate the tenets of countless belief systems as do I. And homosexuals don't choose to be attracted to the same sex any more than you and I chose to be attracted to the opposite sex.
@troyevitt24373 жыл бұрын
@Brah Brutha I'm just saying that dUg, Jerry and Ty came up in the Christian Rock scene, were friends with Phil Keagy and Petra and then took the time to research the truth about the Bible and the establishment of Catholicism/Christianity. The Catholic Church insisted that the sun rotated around the Earth, excommunicating them for saying the earth and the other planets rotate around the sun. When Christianity was founded, people thought somebody having an epileptic seizure was possessed by demons. What's "innedo"? "Your" doesn't mean "you are" it's a possessive pronoun. The contraction of "you are" is "you're". "Your car is in a tow-away zone and you're going to get a ticket". You might take time to reflect as to why religion has eclipsed secular knowledge.

You hear about people leaving Christian Rock bands from time to time like the dude from Hawk Nelson, but you rarely hear about a Christian Rock band renouncing the faith. dUg came out as gay and that was that for their Jesus freak audience.
