I think Sweetwater's gearfest should combine with NAMM . Sweetwater should build a facility that can be used for NAMM . Then Sweetwater can turn around and ask for a discount . Then pass some of that discount on to the consumers and take a lil bit of profit for themselves . Fort Wayne has a working airport . Ft Wayne would be cheaper than L.A. Just hold SWEETNAMM during early June or Oct/Nov . The weather is brutal in the winter and in July and Aug "Hot as Hell"- as the Complet song says HAHA .

Our trade show strategy (not a music related business) is to book meetings with the people we need to see - then there's no conflict spending time with random people outside of those blocked out times.

Well said man. I'm glad the public was allowed in but there were a few too many. I missed a lot of connections at the Deli tables because they were just CROWDED with folks the whole time. Last year, I had a good conversation with Derek from Revv and he had some good thoughts: make Thursday & Friday "Media and Indsutry" only. Content Creators do their thing and the lower amount of traffic will make for better content AND better ability for buyers and dealers and companies to have productive conversations. Then, Saturday and Sunday NAMM is like the San Diego Comic Con for gear: public is invited to attend, charge a fee (which may help offset exhibitor costs) and let the public enjoy what most have always wanted to enjoy. NAMM has always been B2B but they need to incorporate B2C in order to survive. Looking forward to seeing you in January!

Clear objectives for each booth member.. Who's bouncing, who's managing/selling gear and cash, who's focused on meeting external merchants and what is the plan?, who is in charge of shipping and setting up and tearing down booth... Its a lot haha. Have a game plan, execute and its worth it. Do no go into it lackadasical, without clear business objective. Were not here to party lol.

It twas great to see you and catch up. As you said, NAMM is the time to see our community of people that are spread all over the planet. I loved the show, it was arguably my favorite one yet. Plus, your proto through that two rock and of course the echorec made it well worth it. I’ll be down in Nashville before long and I’ll see if you wanna do lunch. All my love brother 😘

Hey Zach! Had the pleasure of meeting you at the show, you are one hell of a guitar player! I agree with pretty much all of your thoughts about the show, it is definitely hard to conduct business when they are tons of guest who also want the unique and special opportunity to try your product. I can personally say it was worth it for our business and definitely moved the needle! Very glad to hear you will have a booth next year and looking forward to seeing you again there.

That WAS YOU!! i saw you near the chapman booth at some point during the week and thought "no that's not him" haha i was mainly in the pro audio world and there were WAAAAAAY less companies there than normal. i wouldn't be surprised if the moving of the turn-key manufactures to the upstairs is because there were so many companies that either chose not to come or just bought a meeting room for the floor without a public display.

Im I'm Australia and would love to fly over to go to a Namm. I think it's on quite a few people's list. Like you said ,media day, possible windows for business times and reasonable open times for the public. At the end of the day, I believe most people who buy guitar related gear are home players and they are really the biggest market of all. I'm a home player and guitar is my escape, my interest. Having the opportunity to meet guitar reps,or youtubers or like yourself a business owner/maker is pretty awesome

Are you not describing what NAMM used to be? Before all the major players pulled out and they needed to let the public in full time to make it sustainable? And if the only reason it really works now is because the public are allowed in, I'd guess they would be hesistant to start restricting that access. It's a consequence of brands becoming more accessible and KZbinrs becoming as big a deal in the guitar world as soley recording musicians (some KZbinrs are both and I'm not throwing shade). Back in the 90s when I was a teenager, NAMM magazine issues were so cool. That's where I saw all the new gear. I had no idea who the person making stuff or running companies was, all I cared about was seeing what'd be in local shops soon. I had no desire to go and meet people, I wouldn't have known who they were. Now I suspect almost all the public attendees main reason for going is meeting yourself, Rhett, Brian, Josh, Paul, RJ... They've already seen the gear on Instagram/KZbin/etc. Essentially, it's Guitarcon. Business can get done, but unless business attendees are going to fot the bill, it is what it is.

What they should do is have a full day or two just for buisness then allow public to come in. I've been a part of fishing shows and vendors will have great deals that you can only get at the show. I've seen vendors sell out of inventory at these shows. To me that gives you time to make connections and network and gives customers the opportunity to get great deals on solid gear. Like you could make a pedal exclusive to the show only... people will eat that up

As what i refer to as a "NAMM Tourist" I apprecaite this take. I do feel like many of the attendees do not understand that this show really isn't for them. It is for buyers and exhibitors. This is not a "consumer" based show... or maybe it should be for a day or a few hours as you mentioned. As a consumer / tourist I do always feel out of place at these shows. And the NAMM floor has to be the SINGLE WORST place to actually demo or try a piece of gear out critically. Now also there are many smaller vendors who are actually trying to sell display models on the floor and usually I will say I have seen the "Tourists" are the ones that buy these up. This is very much a double edged sword... but thank you for the thought that went into this video.

Perhaps the solution is customer facing personnel and client facing personnel to conduct business because that's how most companies operate. Nice pedals!

Hey, Zach. You make great points. I'm a player/consumer and haven't been to NAMM. But there's a buzz about it out here in the consumer world. It's a time and place to launch new products. Manufacturers large and small have targeted it as a launching pad, a time and place to make a splash and hopefully create momentum which carries for a while. As a consumer, why would I want to go? Maybe to see some cutting edge new stuff, to be where things are happening (for that buzz) and to meet people such as yourself who have made a positive impact on my playing. Just to say thank you. So yeah, to get in the way. Perhaps thoughtlessly. But it isn't ComicCon; it's NAMM. It's for merchants who are trying to do business and feed their families. I've always been curious but now feel the most respectful thing I can do is stay away and say thank you here. So thank you again. I enjoy my Wildwood Mjolnir and feel good about supporting Mythos and what you're trying to do there. Including feeding your family. Cheers.

I watched one content creator's video from NAMM and it was kinda exhausting seeing all the people trying to vie for attention from the booths so they could make their content. As a spectator-only, I can see NAMM being less and less about selling wares and more like a KZbin/Podcast media circus. As always, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

It's cool that they're open to public now but it sucks if brands like yours can't conduct business there. They should maybe make it accessible to general public on a specific day so it's get in the way of brands' businesses.

I agree with you that they need to take more care in how they layout the show. I was their working a booth and the first comment was "why are you here instead of with the rest of the companies in our field". It's definitely harder to conduct business when you are next to a speaker company playing soft jazz all day. All in all it was great. We made lots of new dealer connections as well as spoke with users of all ages and experience levels. It was a good thing.

I went one year. It was such a massive S~*^* Show, even w/o the public. I think they should lengthen it by a day & have a public day, right in the middle of that. Then be more selective about who is let in, the other days. Even when the general public aren’t technically let in, they get passes. That should be monitored better

If the vendors truly feel this way, then NAMM should be closed to the public. Fender, PRS, and Gibson don't even show up anymore. Rumor has it they're starting their own type of NAMM but for online content creators. It costs them a fraction of the fees they would have spent on NAMM, to just send new gear to somebody with a channel. Have you considered going this route?

I worked the NAMM show with a company for 4 years in a row. I wasn’t a guest and just wandering around, I was working and selling the company. It was a lot of fun being able to connect with some major players in the music industry, but the public RUINS it. I was having a conversation with Cesar and JP from Gibson in 2019 as they were coming in and our conversation was interrupted at least 5 times by people walking up and taking selfies. I can understand that NAMM has to let in the public, but keep those monkeys in line! Give them a day, or maybe a few hours two of the days and then boot them off the complex. The guests aren’t much different in my opinion. I’d say give them the same limitations as the public.

Even when it was only industry buyers, presenters, artists, media, and their guests, it's insane. Having it open to the public just makes it even more ridiculously loud, crowded, chaotic, and completely defeats purpose of it being an industry event. Limited hours, maybe. But I disagree, and believe if you're just there to gawk and "fanboy/girl", you don't belong there.
