i'm an adopted kid. "Little Green" was my song. in 1979, when i was 18, i found my biological father. he was a folk singer in his hometown. when i visited him the first time, i went to the coffee house where he was playing. he played a couple songs, and then said, "this song's for my daughter, Lisa." and he played Little Green. it was his song for me too.

Felt the same way watching Linda Ronstadt receiving the Kennedy Center Honor in December. Different gifts, but the same drive to move on "to the next thing." My how they used their time well! So grateful to both of them for making the monumental effort to attend these events. The eyes never change...just beautiful.

@@JT-sr2pl It truly was. I was just thinking how she, Ms. Ronstadt, and their contemporaries were so young as the country was convulsing with dissent, shocking brutality, an identity crisis, and expressions of peace and solidarity sometimes marred buy hedonism and senseless violence and destruction. And here they are now in advanced age, witnessing it yet again. How painful that must be for them. I wonder if their music will be revisited by a new generation who will find it to be surprisingly personal and relevant. I know both Ms. Mitchell and Ronstadt are coping with serious health issues. We are as well as a nation; we are gripped by viruses of the body, mind, and the soul. As always, music is such a powerful agent for change and healing, none more so, than that of Ms. Joni Mitchell. Nice of you to comment, Tom.

@@petemavus2948 What an uplifting message to greet my day! It became my morning prayer. I doubt Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Ronstadt read KZbin comments like yours, but I do hope and pray that when they are alone, enjoying moments of contentment and comfort, they allow themselves to experience the deep and abiding affection and gratitude we, the consumers of their art, feel for them. Their music permeated every mood, every emotion, and every phase of our lives. Just listened to Ms. Mitchell's "The Circle Game" the other day and marvelled at the wisdom contained in a song written by someone so young. Her "earthen vessel" may be worn and weary and dangerously fragile; it may soon break beyond repair, but the beauty it contained is with us forever. I pray there are courageous "poets" among us, who like Ms. Mitchell, will help us navigate the roiling rapids within us and around us today. God bless you, too, Pete, and thank you.

I enjoyed Joni at 16, and now at 68. I met my wife when I was 18, and taught her how to play guitar. One of her first songs was Circle Game. I played it for her last night, and she cried. She told me that my guitar playing and singing led to her falling in love with me. We are now married almost 47 years. Thank you Joni, you badass matchmaker.

Who else can write their own songs/poems, sing them, play them on a guitar she created the genius tunings for, while also being able to paint/sketch professionally? Joni is a genius. Her talent spans the artistic spectrum. In 1972 I was a sophomore in college. Joni was playing in DC. I wrote away for tickets (how quaint!) and included a note with my check saying that my friends and I were coming up from central VA, so could we please have good seats. Imagine our surprise and delight when we were ushered to the second row. She was sublime, in a long blue dress with just a guitar and dulcimer and her ethereal voice. And of course her lyrics.

That was the record that woke me up to her genius. I worked at a record store, and the day it came out we played it through 3 times in a row. I was hooked forever. I worked backwards through her earlier records, then eagerly awaited every new one after that. She should have gotten Dylan's Nobel Prize -- or at least shared it. He's never been on my wavelength, but I pick up her signal loud and clear.

@@ejb7969 As it flies.. One of me favourite recordings is the Bob n The Band's Basement Tapes.. Just makes me happy go lucky as it meanders along.. As good as n vaunted so much that Blood on the Tracks is.. I'd grab a hold of Hissing from a burning house before it. The running order of the title track n Shades of Scarlet coupling up.. Immense.

Her music was a huge part of my childhood. I was obsessed with the movie practical magic as a child, and her song Case of You plays during a scene. I always found myself going back to that song and falling in love with it over and over again. When I got older, I learned to appreciate her more and listened through all of her albums. Now she's one of my favorite singers of all time. I hope she's finding peace and healing and is healthy at this time in the world. I'm so thankful for her and her art. She deserves nothing but peace.

Because she was way ahead of us! We grew and caught up to her! I sometimes appreciate I kind of went away as she changed...because now I have so much of the art I missed to catch up on! It's all very wonderful today! It's like hearing her fresh as we grow older and now understand and appreciate what we might of missed! She is a lifetime blessing to the way we view our souls. What a journey she took this generation on! Her work will take future generations on that journey as well...as they build on it! She braved a path and had enough tenacity to leave behind the goods!

Amazing Joni, a well-deserved award - Bravo! Herbie's eloquent description of Joni's essence rings so very clear in the thoughts of her fans all over the world. I was so very fortunate to have grown up on Joni's music beginning in '67 at the age of 17 and continue to listen to her words of raw emotion & honesty to this day. Thank you Joni for "keeping it real" & wearing your heart on your sleeve. In gratitude from Toronto, Canada.

there aren't enough awards on this earth who can testify the importance of this genious . Jony has influenced dozens of millions people of any age,at any latitude of this Planet. If you are a musician, you're bound to love her. If you like poetry, she'll make you mad. If you are a simple human being, she'll soon become you're best friend. If you like a simple acoustic guitar, or an entire orchestra , you'll hear her spirit grab your soul istantly. If you like something more sophisticated than a ballad or a piano-voice solo song, Joni is ahead of you with jazzy arrangements and musicians ( C.Mingus, Pastorious, M.Brecker just to name a few, including his mentor that night Herbie Hangkok). Make sure you don't miss anything created by this Fallen Angel because nothing is to be missed.... I thank God for Joni's company, wisdom and art during my last 50 yrs . Long Live Joni !
