Back when Jaco was alive Jeff was one of the few who was up on that level. He deserves an enormous recognition.

Abigdon Chasp is just hard to beat from any standpoint...Berlin's tone during his solo in that song sounds like a massive tuba. It's so amazing.

By the way, I'm not arguing the fact that Jeff's playing (both in this video and in general) is brilliant. That's what brought me here to begin with. Jeff's great!

…without working with them to understand academic, proper, useful metronome use and the difference between that and useless or counterintuitive metronome use. Of course, my comment was intended jovially and jokingly, and my interest is not to argue, neither with Mr. Berlin’s teachings nor with you (which is why I use my real name on KZbin). I think it’s great that there are so many different opinions out there, musical and otherwise.

Meh... there's a weird thing going down with JB supporters who think he's god, then there's the rest of the world who thinks he's just practising dominant 7ths walks on their music listening time. Jeff we've moved on harmonically since 1955.
@adamstevensbass12 жыл бұрын
yeah, i do suck.
@SteveHoweJeffBerlin12 жыл бұрын
I love Jeff's playing but don't consider him "god". He is one of the best musicians though. I don't forget what the real purpose of the bass is : to play in the background, mostly with a band. John Deacon and Chris Squire are right up there with Jeff as great bass players. Jeff just plays more notes and probably has more "music training" and physical ability on the bass. If you ever tried to play his stuff, you'll see what I mean. Took me a long time to learn 2 of his solos (see my videos).

Well thank you, you're kinda making my point. I tell my students that the metronome is their drummer when there is no drummer. I teach a great deal, and I agree that use of a metronome isn't always appropriate. I'm able to help students differentiate between instances in which metronome use is helpful and those in which it's not. I would consider myself irresponsible if I told my students not to use a metronome, and I would consider myself just as irresponsible if I told them to use it...
