I am a former player of this instrument. The amount of time and discipline that went into this - not to mention the professionalism - is beyond my comprehension. But I feel sorry for virtuoso Euphonium players now because there seems to be so few orchestral works that score for it. But there's always KZbin.

@@Davidandrawes7 Yes absolutely right ! I never heard them play togheter before. And its the first thing I tought: she is clearly his student thats why they play excellent togheter. She is great but he got that bit extra that makes him a worldclass soloist. His tone is just that bit larger , stronger and clearer. And his articulation is very crisp. You notice that well in the parts they dont play togheter and in the low register, there he is more accurate.

Hello, excuse my ignorance, I am new to Euphonium. I think I see a fifth valve for the left hand thumb. I suppose it is also for compensation. It is quite common to see the forth compensating piston on the left hand, but maybe a fifth valve is not so common to see. ( 5:41 ) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmnZYZR5p81nfsk I had not seen an Euphonium like those before. I guess the fifth valve used to compensate the use of the third valve on F# (concert tune) Usually the best professional ones have all rotary valves, usually on the right hand. These instruments on the video have three upward pistons on the left hand, one piston on the left hand indicator finger, and what seems to be a rotary valve on the left thumb. Is that so?
