This guy's painting and tones are so damn beautiful, the way he paints photorealistic materials and vehicles, contrasting with his repertoire of stylized girls give a sense of something unique that a japanese artist can provide, these anime girl designs work here because he knows how to do the opposite but doesn't want to do. Or either depending on the paint.

Range Murata's art blew my mind when I was in art college. I was able to collect about 6 or 7 of his Robot art books. Definitely a highly respected artist

Hello! I know this video is old and you might have already seen this video, but to all those who are interested in seeing Range Murata draw, here's a video of him doing some sketches! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJKkmn99m9-kjqMsi=n0E3NhEjqR3BYRbt Haven't been able to find one of him coloring traditionally, unfortunately, as I am mainly interested in his coloring techniques 😓 if anyone has seen a vid showing him coloring, I'd love to see it!

This artist supposed happens to have had an alter art page under a similar name, from Murata Renji... to Murai Renji, they had a fanbox and pixiv and other pages under this name and the art was significantly similar to their main works... It was... a lot of uncensored loli hardcore fictional content of sorts. Some of their works digitally had a lot of that realistic organic looking skin color pallet and shading, that same style that made them look alive, not always on that style though, doing normal 2D more lose works. This went for a few years and not long ago, but recently they got caught... tracing. The only reason some found was because during a drawing stream a glimpse of a real sfw young human was being used as reference for some coloring and anatomy posing, this was the endgane of it all. All image boards like r34 and even the sites that focused solely on that nsfw uncensored fictional his name "murai-renji" tag ppst were all erased, and most of the social pages that belonged to the artist as well, along his normal Murata Renji on a few, they ceased activities and have been on radio silence ever since. Like many fans of the regular sfw works of this artist eventually found out little by little about this dark say of Murata Renji being Murai-Renji and what they did as they were trying to simply look their social pages and older works of their sfw normal content just to find that wall of information. But just like that artist that Rurouni Kenshin (some called it Samurai X) whom said a lot concerning things they were interested in possibly doing and watching. Murata Renji likely got legally punished for a period and its only a matter of time before being released after that legal reset and accepted back into the industry and the dark side at the same time but more carefully as they got years of practice. This hitted like a truck

As I can appreciate his art is good with smooth lines and very pretty color palette I can’t help but to wonder why he seems to mostly draw young girls, like elementary school girls in swimsuits. It’s just I can’t get over it, if he drew most age appropriate girls maybe I could like his art but it seems to sexual for me. The weird shots of underwear or poses, it’s too much for me. As a women it really affects me. I also wonder because his art does have very realistic poses, where is he getting this poses? Is he using real children as reference? Like I don’t know maybe? Wouldn’t be the first time someone is a pedo in the anime industry. I’m just very not at ease with his art style. I used to be able to ignore what artists drew as long as I thought it was pretty Im some way and I can agree his art is drawn well but I can’t anymore, I’ve grown up and I’m too worried what it means he’s being so supported by drawing such scantily clad little girls. Maybe it’s because I was a little girl and girls are more sexualized but I can’t help loooking at some of his art and poses where you can see their panties or their licking a lolipop sexually I’m like welp now I need to rinse my eyes. What are your opinions about it, I would like to talk to more people about it.

Maybe he like small eyes and round face girl? Some of them has boobs so maybe in teenage or adult age, but yeah seems most of girl he draws kinda similar and the face way too short too so i also feel uncomfortable seeing them.

I'm glad we can agree on the man's godlike talent. And thank you for being more open-minded than some and not condemning what doesn't fit your personal tastes out of hand. Fortunately, art is subjective, just like beauty. And beauty being in the eye of the beholder and all, maybe said artist finds the greatest beauty and inspiration from young girls. There's nothing wrong with that, even if they're suggestive in nature. I'm not attacking you personally here, but I'm so tired of seeing people insert their opinions and tastes as gospel, condemning anything that they find suspect or disagreeable. It's horrible in the anime community these days. Bunch of puritanical old church ladies wagging fingers, "Wait, this drawing has the proportions of a girl under the legal age of consent in my country -- pedos everywhere! If you like this, you're evil!" As I said, you haven't done that. Your take was nuanced and polite. But the topic struck a chord with me that's been itching to get out for a while. TLDR: so what if he was pedo? Where is that a crime? Who is the victim? We're dealing with ink and pixels here, not real people. I'm not defending child abuse, but simply having something in your head isn't a crime. And keep in mind that we're dealing with Japan, not a western nation. You can't apply your sensibilities to them if you're not one of them. Like it or not, lolicons are ubiquitous in anime. It used to be a joke that fans could tease each other about. Nowadays, people are way too uptight and prudish about everything. I find it interesting that you say your main source of unease about this art is because you're a woman. Could you elaborate on that? I just don't understand how that has any bearing on what someone else draws. As a straight man, I find shota(young boy) art uncomfortable. But it's not because I'm a man; just because I'm not into that. I would never condemn it or call it wrong or say others shouldn't enjoy it if they want. I just don't look at it. Same with furry stuff, yaoi, certain genres, settings, etc. Nobody is making you look at this. And since artists are free to create whatever they want, and others are free to enjoy whatever they like, I fail to see the problem. These are drawings, not photographs of real girls. An artist can draw/paint/render whatever they like, no matter how extreme, and there's no victim. Your protestation veers a little too close to thought policing for my liking, with no argument to support it other than "As I woman, I find this gross". Well, as a man, I find shota stuff gross. But so what? I don't have to look at it. And I certainly don't have the right to tell anyone else that they shouldn't look at it either. The only sense I can make of such an argument is if you're concerned with the moral fabric of society. I'm not using the "church ladies" as an slur this time, but that's kind of their job. Encourage their communities away from sin and toward righteousness. Morality is one hell of a huge topic, but if that's your concern, I can respect it. I'm not advocating anarchy or full-blown laissez-faire degeneracy here either. But keep in mind that we're discussing some pretty mild drawings, with tons of artistic merit. It's just that the pixels are a little more neotenous than you're comfortable with. Again, I'm not accusing you of being rigid and unreasonable. These are just thoughts I've had on the subject before and your comment brought them to mind. Thanks for being genuine and open-minded. I hope this novella doesn't come across as too harsh or insulting.

Ive been thinking this and specifically went here to see if anyone was gonna mention it. I absolutely love range's art style but its gotten to me too, the way nobody talks about it. We'll never really know for sure why he does it but it is an upsetting part of whats otherwise a beautiful collection, bc when theyre just normally posing or having fun w other girls i really adore it. Idk why people are so quick to say ur not understanding it or not seeing his true artistry, bc an elementary school zoom in on panties is weird no matter what. But yeah. Ive always wondered this too.

Absolutely loved this video. Not enough people know of Range Murata. I discovered him through Last Exile, which is also an excellent show. If you haven't done one on them yet, you should do an Artist Analysis on Tsutomu Nihei (known for Blame!) or Yuu Kamiya (known for No Game No Life). Murata, Nihei and Kamiya are my 3 favorite artists and are my leading inspiration for my own art.

He's known for drawing cute girls in a more anime style and many other characters and stuff in a realistic style. I find it slightly jarring honestly. I think it's probably best when either everything's stylized realistic or very anime. That's why I like his artworks with only girls in them or only things in them.

While a lot of Murata's works are... questionable, what isn't questionable is his ability as an artist. Me personally, I love my thematic contrasts and Murata's soft character features juxtaposed with his hard mechanical drawings is just awe-inspiring and surreal. It feels like real world and real people while simultaneously knowing it isn't. I did kinda wish he did a bit more, non-kids so I could at least brag about his artwork to peers without having to do an essay everytime of why there is more to it than little girls. At least outside of that I can showoff his mechanical drawings but I feel that's like only telling half of the story. Murata Range is easily my favorite artist I know.
