Nancy recently said she felt she was better than Tonya, more well rounded, I think that's bs. Nancy had some good moments, decent jumps, pretty lines but was never a big WOW moment as a skater, she was like the rest, Tonya,Kristi and Midori had that extra something. Nancy was behind them in terms of technique

I’m not bashing Nancy, but Tonya was skating at the senior level at least 2 years before her. Tonya was a year younger, I believe. I also knew a couple of girls that were 3 years younger than Nancy that competed against her at the junior level. I’m not a figure skating expert, but I do think Nancy took a little longer to progress than the other girls at that time. I understand that people advance at different rates, but she also seemed more immature off the ice than a lot of the other skaters. That was my impression of her from interviews & fluff pieces & the 2 skaters I knew, kind of verified it. I just always had the feeling before the 93-94 season that Nancy wasn’t quite ready for the senior level, but they pushed her ahead like the teacher who promotes a kid because he’s 12 & still in the 3rd grade. I hope what I’m saying makes sense because I’m terrible at explaining things & I hope I don’t seem mean. I have no qualms criticizing her when she has a bad attitude, but I don’t like bashing someone for something they can’t help.

Chris Coyne Nancy had a hard time showing her audience she Loved Figure skating. Nancy came off as cold to her audience. A audience wants to share live w/their entertainer

I think it's true. Tonya had high jumps and fast spins but that was it. She had no grace or artistry and was like watching a dinosaur on skates.

She looks sedated. Can hardly get off the ice, while Tonya spent most of her performance in the air.

I don’t want to bash the girl, but she didn’t have the confidence in her.own skating to justify some of the arrogance that I saw from her. She looked sedated because she was probably a wreck & that’s understandable.

This was not a good show for Nancy for sure. I think Nancy had a hard time being proud of the fact she loved skating; rather than show us all how much she loved skating she was cold to her audience.

I hate to say it, but she was way overscored for technical marks. I'd say more like 4.5 was derserved.

@WaterBabyBlu In this particilar competition Tonya won. I would say Tonya stayed ahead of Nancy through the 91 season. But in 1992, Nancy started to pull ahead both artistically and technically. I liked Tonya's skating when she skated well. Tonya stopped landing her triple axel IN COMPETITION in '92 and I saw her in a couple competitions where she landed no triple jumps at all. Nancy had a disastrous '93 long at worlds. Tonya skated so poorly at '93 nationals that she didn't even make the podium or world team, and it was because she skated so poorly, not because anyone favored Nancy. Yes, Tonya was a great skater on occasion, and so was Nancy. Certainly neither one skated up to their potential often enough. Tonya's last great skate as an amateur was at '94 nationals, albeit without the triple axel. Nancy's last great skate as an amateur was her '94 Olmpic's long, albeit without the triple flip.

She actually "recycled" only the first part of the music in 1994. The rest of it was a piece composed for the Calgary games. In 1994 the entire medley was from Neil Diamond. As far as jazzercise, you'll notice it was an actual requirement to show "makedly and significantly differing tempos and rhythms in both music and interpretation" in the rules at the time. Hence Baiul's weird 5 seconds of faux soft shoe...so strange.

Ewan Oxborrow I like the colors of her old pre-Vera Wang costumes better. Vera’s costumes had prettier designs, but the colors Nancy chose were boring. I understand all skaters at some point have a black costume & a white one, but she got stuck on that. The gold costume for her 94 long program was elegant, but I agree with Vera Wang & think she should’ve gone with other colors.
