One thing (among many) that I love about Nancy Wilson, was that she never tried to look any way but herself, she let her hair go gray, just stayed trim and true to her beautiful self. Someone in an interview once, tried to pin her down as to what kind of singing she did, pop, country, soul, etc., and she said she was a "song stylist" and that she certainly was, she had her own inimitable style style. Age was telling in her throat muscles by this time, her vibrato/tremolo was slower and wider, as happens sometimes to singers who reach their later age, but her adoring crowd loved her no matter what, as we do, always have and always will! We miss you, Nancy (12-13-18), rest well and sleep warm! (I imagine Ella Fitzgerald was a big influence in Nancy's singing, as she alluded to above, but Nancy put her own touch on a song, that no one has ever been able to duplicate, and never will; Nancy was simply one of a kind!)

And no one before or SINCE has sounded like Nancy. I notice today that if someone becomes popular, all of a sudden, everyone sounds like that person. I have always said I judge a singer based on if they can get on stage with a simple microphone and just a piano and keep us in rapture for an hour. There used to be quite a few like Ella, Frank, Nancy, Sammy, Nat etc. - today they are hard to find.

My heart is broken! The glorious Nancy Wilson has gone home to heaven. The literal personification of grace, elegance, sophistication, and class, she gave us her listeners such a wondrous gift with her magnificent voice and her ability to tell a story with every song she ever performed! This type of artistry I fear is now a thing of the past, doubtful that we will ever see it again. A career that spanned decades, with no scandals, drama, or tabloid headlines! Just her voice and the music! Fancy Miss Nancy, how we will miss you, thanks to the wonderful legacy of your recording's you will never ever be forgotten.

Beautiful❣️Nancy Wilson, so exquisite🎶. I am just finding this tribute she performed honoring Ella Fitzgerald. I listened to her as a young girl. She graced our home along with Ella, Gloria Lynne, Sarah Vaughn, Esther Phillips, Dinah Washington, Duke Ellington, Billy Eckstein, Joe Williams, Johnny Mathis, Cab Calloway, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and other greats of the time. The best thing about them was a uniqueness and beauty they each brought to you. You could tell who was playing on the stereo and envision them taking you into the music. What a glorious time in my life. I bought my own Nancy Wilson albums beginning in my early teens. I played every track, both sides and learned the words. You could do that back then, an album was a great investment. Nancy Wilson had a tremendous amount of beauty, style, grace and talent. Her music legacy is on par with her family legacy and philanthropy. Such a regal presence, she exuded class and intellect just sitting in an interview or in conversation. She should be proud of her life and endeavors. I feel so blessed to have experienced her gift to the world. Condolences to her family and other loved ones. Her fans will miss her but they cannot forget her.
@atirad85 жыл бұрын
Just wonderful your list and I can identify mostly because of my fathers music collection in our home . I too bought my own albums as a teen but as a child i had the album covers and jacket sprawled out on the floor looking at them, but my eyes lit up when you said Gloria Lynne because I was mesmerized by her also, they were my four including, Dinah, Sarah. later on came Dionne Warwick. We must be of the same generation because the music was flowing out of my fathers 12 speaker Hi-Fi in those days.

Nancy often said she was a "song stylist" and how true it was, her style was inimitable and she's lovely on this video as she ever was, many years ago. What a talent, as well as a lovely person. A favorite female vocalist of mine for many years. This was about a year before she retired. Not quite as good as she was years earlier (her vibrato/tremolo has slowed down) but her tone was still beautiful, stage presence captivating, and she was still way above most!
