They can lease out storefronts and stores above their terminals. They make 3/4ths of their revenue from these businesses to constantly self fund the lines and "lessen dependencies on politicans" We can have mall designers create entrances and exits that are both useful for flow of the population through the mall area and some 24/7 stores right in the terminals while having transit designers make connections to street access and utilities to min max the land for both transit and commercial usage

Ideas: Any leader in charge of a $1B budget needs to be elected by the voters into the position. Then maybe METRO can deliver something when their job is on the line and they have to make due with the money they're given. Don't forget voters that Measure M already has given Metro a 40 year certainty on their budget with basically a permanent sales tax assessment. See what we get for that? 2 -Metro and LAWA is allowed to build one project at a time. That's it. If they can't deliver one project on time at or below a reasonable cost, they don't deserve another! 3 - We get a government efficiency CEO position. Oh right, that's going to be Elon Musk. Another great video as always. As someone who grew up in Ventura and has family in LA (but moved to NY, and now lives in London), I am desperate for your vision of what Metro could look like in the future. However, as a structural engineer I’m going to call you out on the idea that consultants are the issue and bringing everything in house will make projects cheaper and run smoother. I will agree that in house planning and oversight roles would be better for projects. However, design is traditionally done by consultants (around the world I’d challenge you to find an authority designing their own projects). The reality is, tunnelling projects are a niche area and there is no way a public authority could retain a better cohort of engineers than a private company. The big issue here is the design brief. I think this is what you are rightly pointing out, that the commissioning organisation is requiring the designers to design overly complicated and expensive solutions. Therefore it isn’t a consultant problem, but rather an institutional problem, or even a larger societal problem.

Regarding Measure G, the supervisor increase won't take effect for many years, with the county exec position happening sooner. When the state says 60 days after the change, do they mean after the measure is approved, or when the new county officials take office? Regardless I think it's safe to say much like the LA mayor, the new Metro board makeup will guarantee a permanent position for the county executive.

Since I'm from Germany, the US election won't affect me as much as it will you. So my condolences. But I also know what could happen here, if the USA were to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, for example... Well, we also have elections coming up next year and unfortunately it's not unlikely that right-wing parties will come to power that don't really take the climate, the energy transition and infrastructure (away from combustion cars and towards electric cars, modernization and improvement of the rail network) seriously... Well, what else can you say? Hopefully things will be better in 4-5 years' time :D Apart from that, great video! Happy Weekend :D

I don't see this discussed, but is why is there no C-Line connection to the Norwalk Metrolink. It would allow people from OC and Northern San Diego to get to LAX with only 1 transfer. Seems like a no brainer.
@PASH32272 ай бұрын
There is a plan but we're DECADES away from being built. It'll be one of the last measure m projects. That may change if the cities of Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs advocated for the project to be accelerated. I agree with you that it is an obvious hole in the current system. And underground C Line extension with 2 new stations (Norwalk Civic Center, Norwalk Metrolink) would be cheaper than other projects.

I would like to add that outside of the K line to torrance all of Metros rail projects require now rail yards. Considering the size of these facilities and the price tag of the LAX/MTC station its not unreasonable to expect these rail yards to add $0.5 to $1 billion dollars to the costs of these projects.

I appreciated your preamble. I feel the same, just sub “Canada” for “California”. At least you don’t have to worry about tariffs crushing your entire economy (just increasing prices on imports from Canada - and everywhere, pretty much). I hope for the sake of your daughter that the world wakes up and starts to meaningfully reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. It’s time - I mean, it’s too late to hold at 2° but the worst can still be prevented & a runaway greenhouse crisis can be prevented.

It didn't lose, and it is likely to pass. Votes are still being counted and it is leading by a slim margin.
@hav1ful2 ай бұрын
@@larry3194 They're talking about San Diego's Measure G, a transportation sales tax briefly mentioned in the video, not LA's Measure G. It will lose by a small margin. I am also hopeful that a similar measure can pass in the next election if more projects are highlighted as potentially benefiting a larger base. And hopefully voters will be more open to an increased sales tax if the economy is perceived to be better.

What amazes me about the stadiums canceling the People mover is that they don't even have enough parking for full attendance. They bus people over from across the county for free from designated pickup spots, yet the people mover will take away from parking revenue?
@PASH322721 күн бұрын
The shuttle buses show how useless the people mover is. I live in Long Beach and the shuttle bus to Intuit Dome from Harbor Gateway Transit Center is the way to get there. The people mover is ONLY USEFUL for the sparse population along the K line. Maybe when the K Line is fully extended to Torrance and Hollywood a people mover would make sense. Except shuttle buses would be cheaper and wouldn't require property acquisition.
@AnthonyPinkerton-d7pАй бұрын
Honestly, this is exactly what has stymied HSR from being completed and operating. At one point, HSR got a couple of videos from transit developers who wanted to build the Gilroy to Merced project section, but HSR refused to award a design contract; partly because they didn’t have enough money. Honestly, the reason that HSR has a completion date of 2030 is because they didn’t have Biden Administration priorities the Northeast Corridor over a completion of CA HSR. If HSR could’ve been awarded half of what the Northeast Corridor received? HSR would largely be completed by now!

Here's a proposal why don't Metro stuffs stop being a Disney character and be more aggressive in accelerating thire projects, we are not pleased of those costly delays originally set for 2028. At this rate, they will be finished by 2124. Here's the bucket list that should be accelerated for 2028, 1. Southeast City Gateway line phase 1 2. Northern Extension K line hybrid phase 1 by 2026, phase 2 by 2028, phase 3 by 2032, phase 4 to the Burbank airport by 2041 3. Close the gap in the C line to Norwalk/Santa Fe 4. Finish the A line to Montclair 5. Finish the East San Fernando Line both phase1and phase 2 6. K Line extension to Torrance, with Lawndale Station 7. E line eastside extension phase 1 by 2028, phase 2 2035 8. Northern Valley BRT By 2050 1. Sepulveda Line phase 1 2035, phase 2 2050 ( unless accelerated ) 2. Southeast City gate line phase 2 by 2032, phase 3 to Downtown Santa Ana by 2042 3. A line extension to the Ontario Airport by 2032, extension to Downtown Riverside by 2044 4. E line extension to Downtown Palm Spring by 2050 5. G line conversion to light rail by 2036 6. J line conversion to heavy rail by 2050 7. Vermont conversion to heavy rail by 2050 and extension to Downtown San Pedro and Downtown Glendale 8. Northern Valley Corridor conversion to light rail by 2050 Beyond 2050 1. The Dessert Express from Downtown Ontario to Downtown Las Vegas 2070 2. The Pacific Coastline phase 1 from Downtown Torrance to Newport Beach 2055, phase 2 to Downtown San Diego 2065 3. D Line extension to Downtown Santa Monica 2090 ( unless accelerated )
@PASH3227Ай бұрын
Well Montclair extension MAY open before 2028. The Lawndale Station WILL NOT happen because it would be EXPENSIVE without major ridership gains. This project is already severely over budget and the board voted for the ROW option. The Redondo Beach and future Redondo Beach Transit Center (a bus depot and park and ride) are close enough for most Lawndale residents. The D Line extension will probably come SOONER than 2050 because the political support for it is strong. The Westside COG has been advocating for it for a while now. All these other projects LA Metro is SUPER BEHIND and would need dramatic reforms to CEQA and funding in order to accelerate.
