For 15 years in the industry, many K-pop idol groups, including some well-known huge groups such as BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK, WINNER, BTOB, and GOT7, looked up to these legends and viewed them as "artists" rather than "idols." Bigbang is one of the most legendary idol groups because of their distinct music styles, consistent album sales, sold-out concerts, fashion statements, artistry, and high influence in the K-pop industry. Despite being on hiatus, their name is still well-known around the world. BIGBANG was the first Korean mainstream hip-hop idol. Their style and genre are "one of a kind" compared to the usual style of the Kpop industry. They sweep multiple awards locally and internationally, which leave impressions on the people. They broke the stereotypes in the K-pop industry. They demonstrated that they are more than pretty faces, factory-produced songs, and lip-synching; they are an influencer to aspiring artists and the manual of a true musician. They became the standard for everything from their outfits to their flashy and colorful hairstyles. And up to this day, many are still waiting for them. Also, unlike other groups that show the same routine when they perform in music shows, Bigbang always spices and hypes up the stage. Even though they don’t have choreography, their performances aren’t tiresome. They still engross the audiences, something that only true performers could do. They're also the first K-pop group to write their own songs. In a typical Kpop world, their songs are made and written by the preferred songwriters of their industry. In some cases, the agency chooses the genre of the songs. But BIGBANG’s creativity is something extraordinary. They're the ones who write and produce their own songs. They are currently on hiatus as some of the members just got out of the military service (which is mandatory in Korea for all men to serve) and because of their personal duties, as one member welcomed his baby recently. But it was announced by YG Entertainment that they will have their comeback after 4 years of hiatus this coming spring, and the best part is that in their last song before they had a hiatus, it has lyrics that state that "we will meet again when the flowers bloom". Their love for music and their brotherhood has helped them through it all, and, with the love of devoted fans, they have continued to make music and change the K-pop industry. Yay more Bigbang!!! Here is a "brief" introduction and history of Bigbang: They debuted in 2006 from YG. They were not super successfull right from the start but with Lies in 2007 and Haru Haru in 2008 they catapulted to superstardom in South Korea. And they just grew bigger with each comeback and started to get international fame too. And this was before KZbin and social media were huge like they are now. They really like to experiment with their music, you'll never know what to expect from them.... pop-rock to EDM to old school rap and everything in between. I think that is one of the biggest reasons why they are so loved by both kpop fans and the general public. Never trust a kpop fan who doesn't know Bigbang (or the other 2nd gen big ones). They are the blueprint that other companies use to form their new groups. The members are GD (G-Dragon): Leader, Lead rapper, Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, born 1988 (The wild long hair) TOP: Main rapper, minimal vocals, Producer, Songwriter, born 1987 (the deep voiced rapper) Taeyang: Main vocal, Producer, Songwriter, born 1988 (the one who is without a shirt the whole video) Daesung: Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, born 1989 (white hair) (most of his solo stuff is under the name D-Lite in Japan) ex-member Seungri: Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, born 1990 (short black hair, with the ladies) (Left BB in 2019 due to a scandal, if you want to know more I can write a new comment on that, but all in all it was a super messy, public and complicated thing that was part a witch hunt and part covering bigger issues and there was some small part that was the truth also. There is also A LOT of wrong info going around on this scandal.) They don't really dance during their MVs and lives (like pretty much all other groups do) but they are talented dancers, especially Taeyang, GD and Seungri. When you get to know them more you will see that TOP is the greatest dancer of all!! LOL Seungri even had a dance academy and many idols trained there, like J-Hope (BTS) and Minzy (2NE1). BB are the kings of live performances!! They like to arrange their songs differently for pretty much every consert and live show. They have had the same live band with them since 2012. The band six toured with BB for years until they went to hiatus for military and the band has since toured with other YG groups, mainly Blackpink. My personal favs live are Café, Haru Haru (acoustic version) and Sober (with Daesung on the drums). I highly recommend watching a consert, the Japan dome tour X 2014-2015 is one of the best ones and the MADE tour is also a great one. But to fully grasp the impact they have had, here is a list of some things that are normal now but that Bigbang started: - Lightsticks (GD invented the concept and designed BB's yellow crown lightstick, the bang bong) - TOP was the first underground rapper turned idol (turned into a successfull actor) - Writing their own songs and producing their own music (GD again, the musical genius, but all of them write and produce) - Different genres of music started to be more common in Kpop thanks to them (Hip Hop, EDM...) as they were exploring different genres and making variety of differend genre music. And started to combine different genres in one song. Like Bang bang bang. - Fantastic Baby started the EDM era in Kpop. - To have actual rappers in a group and not a singer who has trained to rap here and there. The rap line GD&TOP (and they actually have an album together) - Rapper combo with higher voice and a deeper voice (when you get to more groups this seems to be more of a rule now haha) - Solo carees, back in the day idols started their solo careers after disbanding, but BB members wanted to go solo and stay in BB. And they have done it super well.. All of them have a very successful solo careers. - International success. They were the first ones to have a real world tour, first international awards, etc. - YG made BIGBANG but BIGBANG made YG. YG ent is one of the "BIG 3" (or the big 4 now...with Hybe) all thanks to BB. They were extremely poor when BB debuted and thanks to their success they are now one of the biggest companies out there. - First mini album - They were always themselves, goofy, a bit crazy and funny. So groups now can also be more free to who they are. - High fashion in kpop - Crazy hair colors - The list goes on.. They've had some scandals over the years (some real and some not) but in my opinion most of it is just South Korean media hating on them (they always have) and them being grown up men just living their life in a super conservative world of kpop idols. What I personally like the most about them is that they really don't give a f**k about anything anymore, they just do what they like the most and that is excellent music. With this modern era of kpop with the super conservative rules it'll be fun to see BB shake things up when they make a comeback soon!! I would recommend to start either from the start or go with the most recent MADE album. All songs from that album (except If You, see the tour report for this one) has an MV. Also they all have excellent solo music with their own flare. Please check out Daesung (D-Lite) - Anymore (live Japan dome tour 2017) and TOP- Doom Dada (MV).

He learned like 5 languages to be able to communicate better with their fans and was usually the one on stage to give a lot of fan service and inclusion. Unfortunately he is not with the group anymore. They are supposed to release a new song this spring. They’re all super talented and creative as hell. They pay out of pocket for everything from promotion to concerts and mvs bc G Dragon is a perfectionist and wants the fans to have the best experience when spending their money to see them. That’s why you’ll see their live stages are unreal and the best. You’ll also note that while there is choreography they usually aren’t sticklers for it and love to have fun on stage. They actually are also known as chameleons especially GD bc they don’t have one set genre of music they fit into. Also bc they change their fashion up frequently as well. GD and CL from 2NE1 actually collabed with skrillex on “Dirty Vibe” and GD and TOP have worked with Diplo and Bauer on other work as well. BigBang literally has a song for any mood and any genre you feel like hearing not to mention their solo work and sub units are just as epic. GD started the fandom naming trend, designed the first fandom light sticks. Started the writing and producing of own music, crazy hair colors, solo careers without disbandment. GD’s also into breaking barriers on gender norms as he dresses in androgynous fashion. He is very big on inclusivity and very down on hate. I love how each member has their own personality and GD writes so they have their own parts to shine. They are very distinct vocally which makes it easy to tell when you listen to their songs exactly which member is singing each part. I usually have trouble with a lot of boy groups sounding too similar and hard to tell which is singing until I really get to know them(and yes I mean all bgs not just kpop). There is so much more. So fellow VIPs help fill in what I’ve left out? I think you shld react to Bad Boy. Get a feel for their more R&B side. It’s on the same album as “Fantastic Baby”.

Bigbang is bigger than most new fans know. Lightsticks was invented by their leader, they were the first group to color their hair pink, blue and many more unusual colors which idols never did. There are a lot of things bb did like countless. I reccomend you watch their live performance of bang3x, fantastic baby and sober in 2016 which was their last concert as a whole group. Its nuts!! Arguably the best bb live performance or check out the 2015 mama performance that shit is crazy as hell.

Bigbang is literally the king of kpop and the idols of idols. Music wise, their songs always on #1 on korean music chart. Bigbang is the 1st kpop group to win an international award. They literally beat Britney Spears for that award. They're also the 1st kpop group to do a large scale world tour. Before, idols only tours in Asia but Bigbang were the 1st to do tour outside Asia. GD writes and produces all of Bigbang songs, so he literally broke the stereotype of idols being robots that sing songs written for them because in the earlier kpop era, idols don't write and produce songs. GD and TOP are very well respected by the rappers and broke the stereotypes for idol rappers. Idol rappers were believed as not talented enough and cannot sing, so they were given that position. Since them, YG are well-known to produce high quality rappers with crazy stage presence. They're not only popular as a group but each members are so damn popular on their own. To date, GD is the only soloist from idol group to win Artist of the Year Awards. GD had also won Album of the Year twice. Taeyang, as a soloist, had won Song of the Year. Daesung is really popular in Japan. His songs always on top of the chart. That man literally had his nose and mouth as the shape of jelly mould in Japan. He is the 1st korean soloist to draw more than 100k fans on tour for 2 consecutive years. T.O.P solo songs were as successful as his other members but his acting was recognized by many. There are many kpop idols who jump into acting career, but not many have succeeded half as much as T.O.P has. His talent in acting has garnered seven awards, including two wins at the Baeksang Arts Awards, one of the most respected awards for artists in Korea. Now, in fashion wise.. Man.. Bigbang literally started the crazy fashion sense in kpop. They're called pioneer of korea fashion for a reason. I don't need to talk about GD because his achievements are just too many to talk about. But to show how significant their fashion influences is T.O.P hairstyle in this video was the inspiration for Joker in Suicide Squad.

If I could be of an assistant, Big Bang actually started off as a HipHop K-Idol group which at the time of their debut, HipHop was what attracted the masses. It was when they came back with 'Lies', the boys literally changed the game for K-pop, music-wise, visual-wise and fashion-wise. From that moment, Big Bang continue to experiment with new sounds that is not of the original K-pop and bringing over hiphop and other musical genre fans into K-pop becoming the group that broke the K-pop stereotype. Their courage to experiment not just musically but also on every other aspects of their career was the start for all other K-pop idols to try and experiment and break off their initial concepts. There has been other K-idols that have tried to do this but before 'Lies', a lot of the attempts falls a little behind. Big Bang continue on to experiment with music which help to inspire Ka-idols today. Big Bang also is one of the many K-pop idols that introduced K-pop to the global masses. Them including the likes of Rain, BoA, Se7en, Wonder Girls and of course the great legend Psy, knocked on the international walls which ultimately paved the way for future K-idols. It may not be as big as their current tracks but if you were to listen to K-pop music before the year 2007/2008, you could see the difference that Big Bang brought forth with this song. They were titled as the KINGS of kpop for so many reason first and one of the most impactful thing is the writing and self producing of their own song Gdragon is the most credited idol in KOMCA (Korea Music Copyright Association) from their rookie days they write their song and that broke the stereotype that "idols cant write song and are just produced doll from entertainments" since then idols get to have their chance and trainees were encouraged to train in producing songs and now we have groups who contributes in their songs. Second light sticks there's no light sticks without GD. Third the dgaf attitude they know no boundaries when it comes to expressing their music. they're rebels of kpop who took down so many stereotypes and became an example to lot of young generation literally the idols of idols, celebrities of celebrities. Their impact is unmatched their relevancy still reigns that's why they're one of the people who paved the way.
