Mariah Carey possess a 5 octave range vs Ariana Grande's 4. They're both renowned for whistle tone. This is most definitely a far better recording than the original there are a lot of years of recording tech seperating them and I do prefer Ariana's tone. Having said that Mariah is a better singer.

Mariah carey is one of the best vocalist of all time… ariana still has a long way to go. Although her wicked behind the scenes has finally shown some improvement. Mariah carey is part of the 3 songbirds. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. There’s also other vocalist like the classics aretha franklin, patti and others. Ariana grande has a lot to go. Kelly clarkson on is much better representation of a vocalist that’s closest to our generation although she has been out for a while too.

Y’all bring up technique but Mariah vocals were in shambles when she was Ariana age and that was only after doing 20-30 shows during her Daydream era. Ariana Broadway training clearly helped her preserve her vocals while she did over 100 shows during her Sweetner era.

Also her whistles were never as good as mariahs, she can barely every go just below the 7th octave. Even before Music Box, in debut era her voice was the highest naturally which meant everything wad easy for her, the ease in her voice was insane and in Emotions era she could support way higher than debut due to improved technique.
