I have watched a dozen different people on here reviewing knives and stones , but Burrfection in my opinion , is by faaaaar the best guy on here and blows the rest out of the water

For your budget series I highly recommend buying the Naniwa "economical" set it's like $50 for a 120 and 1000/3000 stone ... it's what I learned to sharpen on the 120 is extremely fast and soft letting you screw up and correct quickly, the 1000 side is fast also but harder and still forgiving ... the 3000 is why I'd like to see the review though it must have a high concentration of polishing material because it flat out puts a mirror on the edge ! $50 for 3 stones from a high end company to learn on was huge for me to begin

Just bought the cerax 1000 as my first stone due to your recommendation, now I just have to wait 3 weeks for it to arrive from Japan!

The superstone 800 is advertised as splash and go but works better with a brief soak of even a few minutes (most of them do). They soften up and the loading issues disappear with the soak and you can work up a light slurry. As mentioned the superstone polishes to a high level (I considered it to be a ~1600 grit but I can't accurately quantify this) and cant be compared to other 1000 grit stones. The superstone 400 is a better match (more similar to a shapton pro 1k perhaps)

Is the US or Japan chosera better? I got a shapton pro 150(or 120?) to put an edge on battered and bruised knives, machetes, etc. What would be a good choice for stones and grits from there, preferably splash and goes? I want to buy one or two stones at a time, as finances allow.
@Burrfection
@Burrfection 7 жыл бұрын
the Chosera is made for the Japan market, and the Professional is made for the US, they are the same, BUT the chosera line offers a plastic base, and the stones are a bit thicker. but in terms of the stone quality they are exactly the same. for you other question..... it's really depends on what you are looking to do. after you put a knife on the 120, IF you are still reprofiling, and refining the edge or so, a Cerax 320 is great for that. but if you want to move to sharpening, a 500-800 is fine, or you can even go to the 1000, if you are ready to use it. here are the best stones i have used Top Soaking Whetstone #320 goo.gl/AGa9km #1000 amzn.to/2cwLxWB #1000 goo.gl/wZ94xk #1000 amzn.to/2d0Th9x #5000 goo.gl/LJfGHv #5000 amzn.to/2i7wJFk #1000/6000 amzn.to/2dmxDMZ Top Splash-n-go Whetstones #120 amzn.to/2gAEZIN #320 amzn.to/2gABXEA #800 amzn.to/2d4esno #3000 amzn.to/2dmCity #6000 amzn.to/2hPGsk0 #8000 amzn.to/2vUMB4C #16,000 amzn.to/2lA9bHu #30,000 amzn.to/2lA0FIi

*insert well, we’re waiting gif :D just kidding, I have an old CERAX 1000 and chosera 800. For me tie. CERAX better feel, but not splash n go. But now I got ahold of the debado LD, which for me hands down better than chosera 800. Better feel(a bit worse than old CERAX), bigger, not cracking, a little slower, little load up

can anyone help? ive brought a nice set of japanese damascus knifes with a HRC of 60+2, for daily sharpening would you recommend a 1000 grit ceramic honing rod or a leather strop with polishing compound? love the channel by the way!
@Burrfection
@Burrfection 7 жыл бұрын
i think you'll get more use out of the strop. you'll get much better results and you can always play with different grit levels.
