Does this Stone polish the Blade to a mirror polish?
@RobertOrtiz10153 жыл бұрын
no... not the 4000
@golforfishing6 жыл бұрын
I have this 4000 Hayabusa and the 8000 Fuji as well. They cut well and fast but they seem soft, so be careful when you are doing the tips of kitchen knives

I do definitely agree with you!

Please, could you tell me if you prefer the feel and performance of Naniwa Superstone to the Naniwa Habayusa? What is the best synthetic stone for straight razors for you?
@RobertOrtiz10152 жыл бұрын
I like the feel of ss better but hayabusa is 1 cheaper and a great performer as well… and thicker!

you should not rinse your slurry off when sharpening you are right about that! but please do that evenly also using that flattening stone to build a slurry is going to ware out your stone so much faster then if you used it only when the surface needs it or should be done, any who going back to watching
@RobertOrtiz10157 жыл бұрын
I agree with you... i dont hone as much as most people... i am very particular with having a clean and flat stone... I use the plate to create slurry and after i am done for the day i pass the plate on all the stones i used to keep as flat and clean and possible... but yes ... the stones will wear faster
@haylspa7 жыл бұрын
well as long as your okay with that. but if you are building slurry would it not be better to just save those last final pass for when you sharpen again??there really is no point to do it again at the end if you build slurry first thing when there pulled back out. also a suggestion if you add a tub and collect the slurry you rinse off after sharpening let it stand and dry you will have some slurry already if you just add a little water to the powder left after letting it dry out, again just a thought may be by some lapping powder to mix a little up before getting started you can get it all the way down to .03 microns (400,000 grit) would you like a link to that lapping powder??

Those are cool ideas! I will try for sure... thanks

Welcome! :) heres a link www.amazon.com/dp/B00M3RLTIA/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1NXUTSA4I8QWH&colid=1FIN4GGS7VOVD&psc=0 this link will take you to a .03 micron alumina powder but you might want to use this size for stropping instead of a pre slurry

Hi Robert. I only have coticule that o use for everything but I wanted to get a stone for bevel settings and a finishing stone. What do you think of this 4k for bevel setting and the Fuji for finishing?
@RobertOrtiz10152 жыл бұрын
4k for bevel setting is usually not a good way to go for many reasons. 1. It could potentially take alot longer to set the bevel depending on the conditions of the razor. 2. Spending longer on the stone means more wear on the stone, thus wasting the stone way faster, thus having to lap more. 3. I recommend 800-1500 grit range for bevel setting. 325-600 for edges that require extra work due to dents, etc

@@RobertOrtiz1015 thank you. is it good to go chosera1k hayabusa4k fuji8k in your opinion? i am thinking of buying these 3

@@RobertOrtiz1015 what would you use as a finisher after this that is not a jnat? is a hard arkansas (either sb or translucent) gonna work or is it too fine to work after the 8k and i should fill the gap with something?
@RobertOrtiz10152 жыл бұрын
@@leon930 a trans can definitely work after this 4k but having a nice 8k will greatly help get a nicer edge. Naniwa super stone 8k, naniwa fuji, naniwa snow white, and the chocera 8k are some of the ones I recommend. Suehiro also makes some nice ones.

hello Mr robert, would you recommend this stone for knife sharpening? It's a tie between this one and shapton pro 5000, I will use it between shapton pro 2000 and kitayama 8000. thanks
@RobertOrtiz10155 жыл бұрын
super8 most definitely! But if you have a shapton pro 2k ... just remember that it will feel different since is a different brand... but its a very capable stone
@michaelshults76754 жыл бұрын
Is this stone and the Fuji 8k harder than the Naniwa 12k?
@RobertOrtiz10154 жыл бұрын
Michael Shults diffent feel than the super stone series that the 12k falls in. 12k feels creamy almost... these dont feel as such but of course the grit difference is huge by itself as well

@RobertOrtiz10157 жыл бұрын
Uufff ! They are many i like! Do you have a 1k? If so this hayabusa is great stone, shapton and naniwa both chosera and superstones would do great as well!
@alessandrothugknifeforhate45177 жыл бұрын
Robert Ortiz Thanks for the reply. Some friends told me that the 1k for razors is not good, they say to start from 3k, which stone of this grit me advice?
@RobertOrtiz10157 жыл бұрын
1k is awesome for setting bevel on a razor. 600 if you need major work done like chipped! 1k to set bevel, 3-5k for sharpening, around 8k for polish and posibly finish! 12k for finish! Thats on the sinthetic world!... 20k post finish if you need an insane sharp edge and have money

Gregory Burris thanks for stopping by brother... I honestly was in between that stone and this one when I bought this one... i have experienced in the 8k realm... this one, shapton pro, norton, naniwa ss and a crappy chinnese one! My prefered two are this one and the ss
