Great to see the video! Life keeps getting in the way of getting a brew in mine. Hopefully the guys share this video, because the website could do with something to show off their versatility and options. I look forward to watching you run it through its paces.

We've got one of these too and love it! Though not with as many goodies attached. They really are one of the most versatile SS options at the moment with all the ports and accessories available. Keen to hear your thoughts after putting a brew through yours. Cheers.

This fermenter is very similar to the Spike Flex + we have here in the states. This one appears to be a far better design. It has 4 legs as opposed to 3 on the Flex+. The ports are more numerous. I had to TIG weld ports on mine to accommodate additional configurations. I have 3 Spike Flex+ fermenters I use as a small batch system. The bottom port is an excellent place to insert an element. I use one with an element as a vessel to heat 5 gallons of sparge water when brewing on my 15 gallon kettle. Since these are stainless they can be sanitized with exceptionally hot water. I have even went to no chill brewing. Straight from the kettle to the fermenter, and leave it sit for 24 hours to reach pitching temp. I love the chiller coil in the lid. I would love to have 3 of those for these Spikes. Ground water that was turned on by a Raspberrypi would be a great way to maintain a fermentation profile. Great Video.

That is awesome. I love the yeast trap at the bottom. I am about to buy my 3rd fermzilla as they only last so long being plastic. From what I can see this would be a better long term investment as I brew pale ales in the tropics with Kviek and find pressure fermenting retains the hop flavours.

Just pressure fermenting. Had a failure of the pressure valve on on and it blew up. It was 18 months old. The second, an all rounder, cracked after a year and just got my 3rd. They are good for what they are but not designed to last more than a couple of years.

I'd be worried that every time you'd like to make a small change to the setup, that'd it just cost a fortune. I don't think I'll fully understand the need for something so expensive & complicated but it definitely looks pretty flash! Definitely something to show off to your friends!

I thought exactly the same for years, but since using stainless conicals the last 6 months I really enjoy them, cleaning is a breeze, they are tough, dont have to worry about water being too hot or scratching it etc. They probably sent me more parts than I needed, but its good to check out everything and show people. Cheers Josh!

Cheers Gash. Looks pretty cool! Do you find the 4 legs are a little cramped? Dunno why they don't use 3 legs for better access to bottom port? I know stability, but wonder if it would be THAT different?? Perhaps it's time to sell the brewbucket....???

I hear what your saying, but its not something I mess around with much, its only the shutting after I take the yeast off and that's it. They are very top heavy and with wheels you need to be very careful moving it around. I think that might be worse with 3, I'm not sure mate, might be better???

Very fancy, have you got a CIP ball setup for this Gash? would think it would make cleaning a hell of lot easier. would definitely need a pump rated for hot water though which i find is the biggest draw back of kegland’s bucket blaster which i use for cleaning my kegs and fermenters
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
I do have a spray ball thats the next video lol but even using it yesterday, I'm not actually sure its any easier, they are only small and once you take the lid off its just a wipe and a hose out. Time will tell! I only use hot tap water in the bucket blaster, my tap water is 50c so it works out good. The pump I used yesterday was one of those 25W magnetic drive pumps, but I think I'll use the 65W next time see how that goes, the other one was a bit weak.. I played some of it on my twitch cast last night after this video was released.. I'll find the link.

This looks like the ideal small fermenter. But as far as I can tell they only offer a 2" hop dropper kit, right? So you could only either use the hop dropper OR a cooling coil…
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
The thing is its tri-clamp, you buy whatever you want from where ever you want and it'll fit! I have a few 1.5 inch to 2 inch adapters, I use then from my yeast trap and the hop bongs. Cheers!

Thanks for the vid mate I see it's rated to 15 PSI Do you know what it's tested to on manufacture?
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
No Idea mate, Its a solid piece of kit though, I guess the weakest point would be the lid, that seal might struggle with much higher, because the rest is all tri-clamps. It doesn't seem any different to any other conicals. At the same time there's no real reason to go higher than 15psi, unless you're trying to carbonate warm or fast, I carb in the keg 99% of the time anyway. Cheers!

Too much cleaning for such a small batch of beer. I use a SSBrew tech uni tank 64l and I can just get away with a triple batch if its not too hoppy eg lager/pilsner if NEIPA forget it. The cleaning of all the parts at the end puts me off brewing again, so much work! (still I do because it's a fantastic hobby) small batch brewing I would say, save your money and KISS
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
I think the cleaning is really easy? Hose it, wipe the krausen ring, hose it and you could stop there, or else put some hot water and Sodium Percarbonate in it? I used to think it would be hard and all this stuff was overkill, but my thoughts have changed, yes some of the extra parts sent I don't need, but as a uni-tank its great.

Had a look at thier website as am in the market for a decent SS fermenter. Gave up as I just cant work out what the hell is going on. As you mention there are three versions and it really isn’t clear what is what and why I would spend so much more to go from the simple non pressure to the top of the line one. Shame as it looks like a great candidate - the fact that it has 4 legs is awesome and the flexibility of so many ports to grow as my brewing does; but when their website is so poor makes me wonder what after sales is like?

@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork Жыл бұрын
I found it sealed really well in one spot easily, not exactly the same spot but roughly the same spot, and the tightening ring had to be up a certain way, not sure if I'm dreaming but it works for me. For me its if your looking straight on from the front the tightening clamp screw thing is on the left side. with the tightening handle facing the front. whether that's the same for you I don't know, and don't go fully tight until test it, then if you have to touch it up tighten a bit more, remember they are only rated to 15psi, I use mine at 2-5psi just like my fermzillas, but before cold crash I put it up the 10psi. Once its sealed I leave it on and fill through the ports in the top. Apparently they are changing the screw mech soon, so its better like the Brewbuilts. Cheers!

Do you think it's worth removing yeast before dry hopping? It's one thing i haven't tried yet.
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it can be depending on the beer. Here's a coincidence I was just reading an email from Mountain Culture brewery. Quite "Like this week, the brewers started macrodosing, where they added the entire dry hop schedule in one huge hit. But, importantly, the beer is first sent through the centrifuge and returned to the fermenter before the dry hop blend is added. The removal of leftover yeast and whirlpool hop residue before dry hopping allows for a boosted aromatic and a brighter, clearer hop flavour." Theres other things involved like methods you use etc that can determine the best way for you. Cheers!

I used to think similar, but after using them the last 6 months I have changed my mind, they are great to use. The yeast container only holds a litre and I'd lose more than that in a flat bottom regular fermenter leaving the yeast cake behind, more than twice as much. Cheers!
