Happy Saturday Mr Hibbert, quick 2 question are you using Home Assistant? If so have you tried getting eWeLink to work on it?
@Matt_H_2 жыл бұрын
How dim can these go? Whilst I appreciate the brightness test with Luxopolus, I have bought lights in the past that, even when at the dimmest setting, outshine a traditional 60w bulb...
@paulhibbert2 жыл бұрын
Not tried ewelink in home assistant, but sonoff have been a staple of the tinkers for a long time, so I imagine they work great! The last sonoff product I tried had a local mode that you could enable by bridging some pins, that would allow control via http the same as Shelly devices.

I generally use what I call the Mallory Method for tech ("because it's there"), but I've resisted the Nanoleaf for some reason. At the moment I'm using Twinkly lights on a wall - they're fab and a waste to only use them at Christmas - but I am tempted by these Govee lights so thank you!
@merrickbryan852 жыл бұрын
I would agree with you that Govee is a great product until... they just recently limited their developer API access to the point you can barely use more than one light at a time. I had 5 lights working through smartthings in my bedroom that now can't turn on and off in 2 presses because of the limits. They can only do 10 requests every 10 min.
@FonixVR_2 жыл бұрын
Hey! So I actually reached out to govee about that issue, and they stated that they are working to actually make it a lot better. they said that they're popularity was getting more than what their servers could allow so they had to slow it down until they're developers could develop something that could keep up with the rate. It's only a temporary solution and they plan to fix this. Trust me, I was mad too because I use govee on my streams but they plan to fix it later on or maybe they've already fixed it by the time I've typed this
@pimw98052 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for the great review! These Govee lights seem to be very awesome lights, much better than Nanoleaf. There is however one drawback: Govee is cloud-only, while Nanoleaf does local control too. Given the recent downfall of Insteon, the troubled history of Philips Hue, and the recently implement api-call-limitations for Govee, this does not give confidence. These lights should still work in 10 years from now, and i highly doubt if that will be the case due to company-greed-related-factors. It's kinda ironic: Nanoleaf gives local control but the connection is very unreliable, while Govee is cloud-dependent, raising concerns for the future. It would be nice if you could ask Mr Socky to make some critical comments about cloud-only connections during future reviews. You have a big audience, and therefore you actually have somewhat of an influence to companies. Anyhow, keep up the good work!
@paulhibbert2 жыл бұрын

Having a couple of nanoleaf colour hex arrangements, I agree 100% their app is pretty sucky. I don't think light level is too much of an issue as they are more for ambience than lighting up a room, and I usually turn them down as they are usually too bright at 100%. One feature that isn't very well known about that you missed on the nanoleaf is that every single panel can be exposed as a switch in Homekit

looking at the light produced from them lights in the metal-axe-off themed intro...I'm not sure if it's the camera but the light seemed to be quite bleached...like sooo bright it either effected the digital camera sensor or it was if they were turning the white light shades up to increase the effect of brightness. Any feedback on what you actually saw yourself? Maybe it's the colour of the pannel causing some sort of wired florescence or sommats? Maybe, a light shade of slate may make the colours less bleachy...or, maybe it was just the camera sensor...maybe it's just me 🤷🏻♂️😅

Not Paul but I just setup some other Govee stuff in Home Assistant. Not sure about these specific lights, but my Govee RGBIC LED strips allow on/off/brightness, and single color (e.g. "set the lights to red" will turn the entire strip red), no RGBIC features natively. They will retain their RGBIC setting through power on/off though, so if you always want the same RGBIC effect, you can set it in the Govee app and it'll persist. I believe you can setup stuff on the Home Assistant side to help set it to predefined scenes also, but I haven't done that yet. HTH :)
