Over the past year, my wife has occasionally been doing the "Ooh the sigbee!" and "Home Assistant" thrusts. She ran up to me this morning and excitedly asked "Have you seen Paul Hibbert's video today?" I had, but I hadn't noticed anything spectacular in it. "Let's watch it together!" she exclaimed. We chuickled our way through the intro as usual, and when we got to the display sync bit, she said to me "Is it bad that I know which level he's doing, in Destiny 2?". She spends many hours per day playing that game, and has done so since its Windows release. She had a few questions about the Govee lights, which you answered during the video, and I asked her about your Destiny 2 progress at the end of the video. "Oh, he's on the leviathan", she said. "is that story stuff?" "yes, he's just doing a PVE story quest, not PVP". So now she's not just a subscriber to your weekly home tech posts, she's also a fan of having something else in common with you.

I like Govee products, but the reason I’ve sent every item back is that they require a connection with their mothership. If they decide to stop supporting their products or go bankrupt, well then you’ve got very expensive dumb lights. When they support local operations without an internet connection I’ll buy them again.

Here's a comment from Govee on reddit a couple weeks ago, "Hey Govee family, as our App team said , the next version of APP V5.2 will open local API control in mid to late August, but only support some SKUs. They will announce it to the community at that time." So I will certainly put a few of their products on my Save for Later list until it's announced. Would make them perfect.

I got the Govee ambilight strip for my tv i just used the app and there cloud to set it up now it will go on the the video mode when it gets power so in theory you can use a zigbee smart switch to locally control it

Govee have just got so many great products now. Nanoleaf really have nothingto offer in comparison, and Govee are cheaper for what they offer. And we won't go into the comparison between the App's and the fact Govee remember the setting when power cycled.

These look so nice. Might have to some once the new local API comes out next month and someone makes it work better with Home Assistant. The workaround you taught me works great but it's a pain to setup loads of scenes.

After Nanoleaf discontinued the OG Aurora panels in favor of their new "Shapes" line I decided to never buy Nanoleaf again. All they needed to do was release an updated controller but no, they betrayed their original customers because of "reasons".

Really sucks that you can't get these or the Hexa lights in New Zealand. I contacted Govee to ask about international shipping and they just straight up said no to international shipping and not 3rd party recommendation. I'd buy these if I could get them without having to jump through shipping hoops.

I bought a Govee product - an inexpensive wifi temperature and humidity gizmo for my back patio. So I know when it's too cold out for the kitty cat. And brilliantly, I got it into Homekit by way of not Home Assistant, but Homebridge. But now I want to try out Home Assistant. I keep nudging closer to it... after all I'm a widow and unlikely to ever have a relationship again so ... nothing to lose, right? Except my eyes start glazing over.... truly! Anyway, just popped in to say I laughed at the Quantum Leap joke. Oh and I'm definitely buying more Govee products!

Love your videos mate and I appreciate the comparison with Nanoleaf's. My personal take on the Govee Hex Lights vs Nanoleafs is that I don't want them to be overly bright so being extra bright doesn't win any points for me. What I love about Nanoleaf is that you can link all the shapes together to get whatever design you want to make. With Govee, this is not possible (correct me if I am wrong please). The thing that frustrates me with Nanoleaf's (btw the boot time for me is 99% of the time just a matter of seconds so you might just have been unlucky and got a bad set?) is when it seems to randomly stop connecting to the Wifi - seems to be a common occurrence with all my Nanoleaf lights and I have to reset them all. However, in saying that, it doesn't happen too often (maybe 3-4 times a year). That's my take on the Nanoleaf vs Govee Hex lights anyways. I also use Twinkle lights for Xmas and Diwali and they have a new square panel being released this September - similar to Divoom but looks much, much better. Would love to see your take on that one if you can get a pre-release model.

I inquired with Govee last month about HomeKit compatibility with its products - they said expect it late this year. Assuming it will be under the Matter protocol. Hoping they add it to already released products not just new ones. Nanoleaf needs competition to hopefully drive the price down!

Can Home Assistant finally set the modes from the Govee lights ? Last time i checked (few months back) i could just turn on and of the lights and change the color but i wasn't able to pick the modes meaning video/music/solid color
