I feel bad for Naoya in a way. He was spoiled rotten due to his technique, but also isolated from the outside world. Being stuck in an echo chamber like that meant he was doomed to be unimportant. Sure he had one of the better techniques as well as the best physical training, but his mind was set to be in stone. Unchanging. A sorcerer's strength comes directly from their mindset. If a sorcerer's mind is stagnant then they do not reach their full potential. I like to imagine what Naoya could've been if he had the opportunity like Megumi to grow up outside the Zenin. Had he had that chance he could've been strong. He would've had the liberty to think for himself and not be indoctrinated. He could've made a difference. Hell, now that I think about it, he could've left the Zenin. His very idol Toji did. And because Toji was abused by his clan he had to become powerful. Had Naoya broke off from the clan and tried to forge his own path he would've become more than he was. But no. He wanted the power of the Zenin to fall into his lap. He didn't actually want to earn it, because he thought that his mere existence was enough to be worthy of it. At least the spoiled child part of him does. As you stated, he knows he isn't as important and or strong. He's just using the title as the Leader of the Zenin to try to put himself on Gojo and Toji's level.
@thatguy64824 ай бұрын
Exactly he was definitely limited by mindset. His technique is a great example of this, we know the same techniques can change with the era their in like shrine. And one that is literally moving based on FPS should have received a massive upgrade instead of 24 he should be able to make 30, 60 or even more movements in a second but he sticks to the same as his father's probably because he just went along with his mindset about how a higher framerate isn't true animation and yada yada.
@AnonTDegenerate4 ай бұрын
@@thatguy6482 he's also extremely hypocritical. He does dislike Toji, but goes on to glaze him. When he meets someone stronger, he hates them most of the time. Also he's 28. He does kinda look similair in age to Maki n all, but he's the same age as Gojo. He's less a brat, formative years be damned, he had plenty of chances.

To be fair the main reason he was so high in the vote was because some people voted for him hundreds of times as a joke.

@@Hidden1000 I can't remember exactly where I saw it, but the way the voting works is through buying copies of the volumes. So one person can vote multiple times and I remember seeing that a few people were buying hundreds of copies of volumes and mass voting their favourite characters. @@Nsnsms1 he said "after 269" which implies they're referring to the moment Mei Mei killed the head. You would have had a point if they didnt specify the chapter or used a chapter where she'd be seen as a bad guy. Mei Mei did nothing villainous in the current chapter they are referring to.

Curses are so interesting to this story, and it kinda shows your bias just skipping over the part when naoya turns into one. Jujutsu Society is nowhere near as interesting as how curses think and function within the world of jujutsu
@ironnancy4 ай бұрын
I’m not biased against curses. I said when he turns into a curse. It doesn’t necessarily add any new elements to his character. Obviously from the perspective of the physical he’s different. But he’s still Naoya at the end of the day. He didn’t change when he became a cursed spirit. Which is kinda the whole point of his character.

I think it's interesting how the portrayal of naoya makes him look more pathetic than he actually is. Because isn't naoya a grade one sorcerer? And if I'm remembering correctly grade 1 is the best grade behind special grade itself I'm pretty sure most sorcerers in jjk as a setting will probably live and die not reaching grade 1. So even though naoya wasn't too important in grand scheme of things he is still Leagues stronger than the average sorcerer. Even before he became a curse.

I think the major factor is Japan being weird. I feel that Japanese audiences prefer design over character, which makes perfect sense since Naoya is an actual degenerate who lusts for his cousins. If he wasn’t drawn attractively, similarly to Gojo, he’d be a lot more despised by the readers. For instance, in one of Bleach‘s popularity poll, Momo is at 6 despite being an absolute nothing character purely because of her cute appearance (instance of Japan just being weird) It’s interesting too that Todo and Hakari, two very masculine characters, are at the very bottom of the poll, which I think again plays into the Japanese audience’s bias. Toji here at 10 would DEFINITELY be at least Top 3 in an international ranking, he’s an actual icon within Gym culture and even people who haven’t watched JJK adore him. He has that kinda status. Basically, Japan is "different" and prefers more feminine characters (and children 🗿)
