Out Oct 30
Founded in 1994 in the Swedish Säffle, Draconian gradually refined their sound of melodic Death Metal with elements of Black Metal, becoming more ponderous and doomy over time. Their style-defining 2003 debut LP 'Where Lovers Mourn' served a welcome alternative for fans of such classic doom artists like My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. Contrary to many of their peers however, Draconian's sound has remained steadfast to its origins, in particular, the powerful vocal growls of Anders Jakobsson, one of the band's defining and most unique features, along with newcomer female vocalist Heike Langhans sensitively interwoven melodies. Draconian's sixth studio album Sovran is no exception to this formula, and immediately convinces the listener with Beauty and the Beast-esque vocal contrasts, striking accents, and threatening moods. Sovran also features a guest appearance from Daniel Änghede (Crippled Black Phoenix) on the haunting track “Rivers Between Us”.

Earlier this year my husband relapsed on meth. It damn near broke us. One day while he was off messing up, I was home, sad and alone, and this song came on. First time ever hearing Draconian. A couple days later when my husband sobered up, I asked him to listen to this song. It literally saved our marriage and changed our lives. From that day, he started learning to growl while I sing opera, and writing music! You guys... I can't thank y'all enough for your powerful music! And giving us a reason to live again...!

Draconian is one of those rare bands who can bring a smile on your face and tears in your eyes, and it warms you inside and it also makes your body cold as if you were laying in the snow without clothes on. It’s magical feeling, it’s the combination of Draconian’s phenomenal way to combine slow, fast and sad rhythms into one song. It’s not easy task to face but somehow Draconian manage to perform it flawlessly in every single song.

Where is the world I saw in your eyes? It lived through the night, then whispered goodbye. The cuts in your skin and the red in my eyes. This winter inside is crushing me now. "I am alone, I am scorn, I can't remember to forget you, I just weather the storm". The love that I had, it drowned with the tide, stirring the waters where heartslay bare. The cuts in your skin and the red in your eyes. Enfolding this shame into despair. Let me take the noose from our necks and carry us home. Still so alive, even after you die, transcending with time. We're just two cripples who fail to belong. Yes, we are two cripples, but we need to hold on. From this flesh my spirit longs to break away. Did you ever feel this cosmic circumstance was never enough? Wake me slowly if ever at all. Wake me slowly or watch me fall. The life that I had is gone with the tide (Watch me fall) Another deception, I whisper goodbye. The cuts in my flesh, the red in your eyes (Watch me fall). These demons inside, they die with me now.

drift like a cloud and flow like water, seeing that all life is a magnificent illusion, a playing of energy, and that there is absolutely nothing, fundamentally, to be afraid of. Fundamentally, you will be afraid on the surface. You will be afraid of putting your hand in the fire. You will be afraid of getting sick, etc. But you will not be afraid of fear. Fear will pass over your mind like a black cloud will be reflected in the mirror. Alan Watts.

Anlamazlar. Anlamayacaklar. Anlamasınlar.

Draconian never disappoints, this is why I like them so much. There isn't a lot of bands that do what Draconian is doing a good time. Dark lyrics, melodic songs. This is what we can call doom metal. They can play the same thing forever and ever and we'll never get tired of it. With Heike on the vocals now, they can further improve. Here's the proof.

_____________2:50____________ "Drift like a cloud and flow like water. seeing that all life is a magnificent Illusion, a playing of energy, and there is absolutely nothing fundamentally to be afraid of. fundamentally. You will be afraid on the surface, you will be afraid of putting your hand in the fire, you will be afraid of getting sick. But you will not be afraid of fear, fear will pass over your mind like a black cloud will be reflected in the mirror." - Alan Watts

There is heart and soul in Heikes voice. It is real and makes the songs she sings touch the deepest parts of you. It pulls you in and you can feel in your bones every word, every note.

+David Matos swallow the sun has their own type riffs and music style, gloom and despair in variance albums. nothing sounds like SWALLOW THE SUN. This new Draconian track sounds like Wine from Tears, this new Draconian's track doesn't sounds as the old work.

I was recommended sorrow of Sophia early 2020 and kept forgetting to check out more of draconian and when I finally did, this was the song. I couldn't believe that I had finally found a band that just perfectly fits my taste, I've never heard another band with this sound and its just perfect.
