What is Ridley Scott's fascination of giving all actors an English accent? In Gladiator not one person spoke with any sense of Latin - or even Italian. Only when Maximus' son thought his dad came home (instead it was the Praetorian guard to kill him and his mother) did the kid call out in an Italian accent, "Papa! Papa!" Now we've got Napoleon that's once again crawling with English accents and one American.

Russell Crowe is pushing 60 and he looks it - Napoleon was in his 20s-40s during the period this film will presumably cover. Even Joaquin Phoenix is a bit old to play him at 48 but at least he looks young for his age.

Crowe is now at the point of his career where he's winding down, chilling and finding his own niche. Recently he was in The Pope's Exorcist, and the movie did well enough for a sequel to be green lit. As a big fan I truly hope he continues acting.

How on earth is one movie going to cover Napoleon's life. In the trailer we have the revolution, the Italian, campaign, Egyptian campaign, what appears to be the battle of Austerlitz, the 1812 Russian campaign and Waterloo. And of course his love life. It will be fascinating to see how this turns out given that you could devote several TV seasons to the subject and probably still struggle to adequately cover his life, warts and all.
