Military theorists of the 18th century had speculated about the idea of the corps system. But Napoleon was the first one to adopt, refine and implement the system on a wide scale. Of course he didn’t organize it all by himself, his Chief of Staff Marshal Berthier was also instrumental in the organization of the army.

Corps is one of those words like fish and sheep where it's both singular and plural. By 1805 there were postal services in most European countries, but they were still moving mail on horseback and in carriages and boats. I think the steam engine had barely been invented iirc. So they were sending military messages by riders and runners, and using signal flags and bugles on the battlefield. They weren't using using Morse code, but they might have been using Semaphore signals. I know the different navies used different signal flags to try to stop each other reading their messages, so it might have been the same with dfferent armies. To co-ordinate they would have had to combine big plans in advance with on-the-day warnings and updates. So the various corps commanders and division and regimental commanders would know what they were supposed to do and where they were supposed to be and by what time on a given day, and then they would be updating the higher command if things were going wrong or they were running late or fast or whatever so that higher command could adjust and issue new orders if necessary.

The person responsible for the movements of an army is the Chiet of Staff. In this case taking Napoleons orders and writing to each commander.
