Guys, remember the main Napoleonic playlist dosen't have all the videos in it because that is just the Napoleonic war section of their videos after he became Emperor. But you gotta watch other series before the main one for events to make sense! Once again, here is the correct order: -Napoleon's Italian Campaign series (5 parts) -Napoleon's Egyptian Campaign series (2 parts) -The Brumaire Coup (1 video) -Their newest series on Napolaon's Marengo campaign. So far only part 1 is out but by the time you guys get to it, the second and final part will come out this month so definitely to this aswell, this will directly explain how he became Emperor. -And then finally the main series There is also Napoleon's Marshalls after that if you are interested. This is also an awesome playlist provided by another commenter that basically covers all you need to see in chronological order. Thanks to @bluredstoneiii5594 for making it. Posting it here again incase you guys don't see his comment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoO4qWlnpdGmsJY

Gibraltar is a vital British naval base on the very southern tip of Spain. It has been owned by Britain since 1704. It was seiged dozens of times, but famously was held by the British for 4 years during the Seven Years War. This led to the popular idea at the time that the city was impregnable, hence the nickname "Little Gibraltar".
@Waterford1992

Little Gibraltar was given its name because its a mini version of the British territory on the southern Iberian peninsular that is very fortified against attack from land and sea.

Napolean started his military life as a commander of artillery. He was good at it. Artillery has been, for 100s of years, the supreme killer of the battlefield. It was always Napolean's key, that unlocked nations to conquest. Accurate, well positioned artillery was absolutely lethal, and decisive, on the Napoleonic battlefield. The American Civil War took it to the next level.

An interesting comparison would be George Washington and Dorchester Heights overlooking Boston. He wanted to charge into Boston and have a fixed battle with the British in I think 1777, but his officers / advisors told him this was a bad idea and instead move all our cannons to Dorchester Heights, which overlooks Boston and the inlet to the harbor, which forced the British to flee from Boston with all their troops and loyal subjects.

21:16 actually vlogging through history made a good point once about that subject. he pointed out that there's probably been thousands of napoleon's, alexander's, hitler's, both good and bad figures throughout all of history. there could be another napoleon living today, its just that the world is at relative peace and they don't ever get tested and prove themselves. its just as likely that if the French revolution never happened and France never went to war with Europe then history may have just passed napoleon by, if alexander's dad hadn't died, or if hitler got shot in WW1, its only the unique/perfect conditions at the right time that allowed them to become part of history.

Its important to remember that most people of the past were not good people by modern measures and to look at them with such as such leaves out the persons reason and thoughts. We live in a time where we can afford to be good and as such often neglects how different their minds and morals worked. The funny thing is it theorised by historians that had it not been for the revolution Napoleon would never had been able to rise in the military, at that time officers had to be born nobles and Napoleon came from a small Corsican noble family so he might never have become more than a minor officer but the revolution with its wild ideas open up for his rise.

Hi BARS & BARBELLS, from South France, 🌴🌞 This video is biased because it doesn't mention that it was the monarchists who occupied Toulon. It also doesn't say that if France declared war on Austria (Habsburg Empire), it was because Queen Marie-Antoinette was Austrian. And during the escape of the royal couple arrested in Varennes (which was considered a crime of high treason by the revolutionaries), Austria had massed contingents of soldiers on its borders intending to invade France and restore the monarchy. Peace, folks. ☮👈😎

I will have to side with those who say Napoleon was not as genius as many portray him. He was an incredible strategic prodigy until the battle of Borodino and after that, for some inexplicable reason he started a streak of the most idiotic things any amature general could possibly do. He was just too lucky at the beginning. Everything was going his way, even things he had no power or influence upon. And suddenly one day...

Yes, but Bonaparte often used the talents of his French marshals and generals for his victories too. And to better exploit his own talents, it was better to be in the French Army, than those in Italy at that time. It had already been quite powerful for several centuries, and closer to his time, since Louis XIV. During those times, the important thing was allegiance, not origins. Many European armies had foreigners as Generals. Bonaparte was no exception. In the Middle Ages, the Kings and Nobles of England were more French than English. Just like Eugene of Savoy was more French than Austrian. The Russian Army had employed Prussians, etc... Although Bonaparte had Genoese origins, he never grew up in the Italian peninsula. The latter was more of a playground for him than anything else.
