I don't know if others experience with this recipe is the same, but it has changed everything about my hair since I started using it about three months ago. I have been natural for almost 5 years and I have experienced little hair growth. Not to mention my hair came out after dying it and became unhealthy. I started using this diy shampoo along with doing a protective style. well, my hair is finally growing! I mean it's growing fast and feels and look so healthy. I also started spritzing my hair with aloe Vera juice and water after conditioning. I have 4c hair and it's normally dry all the time, but the porosity of my hair has changed and I'm literally in love with my hair. it maintains moisture like never before. Thank you so much for this diy, it saved my hair life... muah!😘

I just found this recipe a month ago and finally purchased all the ingredients for it. I really thought it would be too drying on my hair, especially because African black soap is too strong for my skin regularly, but instead it was very moisturizing and I wanna say clarifying at the same time. My hair really liked it - dried supremely soft after a regular conditioner (which never happens as I’m a super dry 4b/4c) and I can’t wait to use it next wash day.

Hi Whitney Back in the day, when I relaxed my hair. On the few occasions I used Jojoba oil in my hair care, I found it would cause quite a lot of breakage. I believe this is due to its hair softening properties, which is great if you have healthy hair, but proved to be a problem on my relaxed hair. I suspect it is the high levels of salicylic acid that caused my already weakened hair to break. I mention this because of the use of Jojoba Oil in your homemade shampoo, and the possibility that you could be unwittingly making your hair problems worse. As an alternative I've found Castor oil to be great for strengthening my hair. I hope this helps.

The only thing I did differently was add olive oil instead of jojoba oil...because I didn't have any...and I didn't do it in the shower I did it in the sink and got the shampoo in my eye. I thought I was done for! But I ran some cold-warm water over my eye until I felt like I wasn't going to die...other than that, it was very easy to follow and my hair also feels really soft! The best african black soap is at whole food the brand that she is using! It has shea butter in it so it's non drying like the other african black soaps!!! My strands never feel dry and helps with acne. I love it!!!

+Erika Chester it kind of reminds me of that dou dou black soap that was very harsh to me. I prefer something that has a marble look to it like some added shea. But maybe you can tweek it with added oils such as coconut oil.

I've been using a homemade black soap shampoo since May. I add rosemary, orange, patchouli & lavender EOs, baobab oil & 1 oz of black soap to 1 cup hot water. I only need 2 oz to wash my hair, so I use some of the rest to bathe with (it's my weekly top-to-toe exfoliating treatment). My hair loves it! I can section my hair with my fingers, and I detangle with it all lathered up. I follow up with a RenPure conditioner (I switch between the coconut cream & bamboo/coconut water formulas), then my homemade cream (shea butter & a bunch of oils). With this crazy heat we've had in the PNW, my hair has grown almost 2 inches since I started. Thanks for getting me started!

For those who dont make lotions and other products, Theres no such thing as a natural perservative..so please dont make huge batch ppl. There will be oil and water separation cuz there isnt an emulsifier added.

Thank you. Just getting ready to try this and my natural tendency is to make things in large quantities. I'm glad I read the comments before jumping in.

Actually tea tree oil is a natural preservative. What were they doing before all these man made products came about?
@parshanelson70206 жыл бұрын
Also if you don’t want to risk the whole preservative situation just don’t add water. You pretty much only need a preservative when water is added. Instead of adding water to the soap melt it instead by way of a double boiler.
@joy50166 жыл бұрын
Parsha Nelson This is slightly incorrect. Tea tree oil is an anti microbial (see scientific journal) it does not preserve. Preservation is different to anti microbial. You could use a combination “natural” preservatives to go around this problem such as benzoic acid, citric acid, lactic acid or sodium gluconate. Or Dr Straetsman has wonderful selection. And also depending on your raw material a combination would work best

THIS SHAMPOO IS AMAZING! I’ve been transitioning for a year and on a whim, I decided to go for it, buy the items and WHITNEY YOU ARE A GENIUS! My hair has NEVER detangled so easily and felt so moisturized when washing!... I don’t know why I waited so long. I did substitute the argan oil for baobab oil though.

I found what thought to be a traditional liquid black soap, made from plantain skins, but this one is made from palm oil. I tried it and I'm in love. its like a thick jam consistency, I just add a little water, and finish up with, JB castor oil. my hair has. never been softer and so easy to detangle💕

Washed very well without stripping my hair. Scalp was very tingly! I will be using this as my permanent wash. Thank you Naptural85. I’ve been you for over a decade and you helped my hair get longer and thicker than it has ever been. My hair is nipple length now. Just amazing. 🎉

I didn't make a shampoo, but I used black soap today to wash my hair for the first time and (I'm half indian half black), and my curls😮 were popping. I'm gonna buy bags of this stuff and keep it. I dont even use other cleansers on my face or body. I now use black soap because I suffer from eczema, and to my surprise, it has been God sent for my eczema. I just moisturize after, and my skin has never felt better. Black soap is ittttttttt.

This is even later, but no one has naturally jet black hair even if it looks that way in certain light. Our hair can only be a very intense dark brown naturally, so don't worry and think your hair is ruined.

This recipe has worked wonders for me! For YEARS, I have suffered from a flaky scalp. When I was younger, I was told to use a comb to scratch before washing my hair, but that of course just further irritated my scalp. I used to have to part my hair over and over again and put jojoba oil on my scalp, and I'd have to do that at least every days. After using this shampoo once per week for 3 weeks in a row, my dry scalp or dandruff or whatever it was is gone! Thanks so much @Naptural85, you have saved me so much time!

Ok. I’m late to the party but I just made (and used) this shampoo and AM LOVIN IT! Only need a few drops on the scalp and the lather is off the charts! Awesome products (I do have the conditioner, oil and elongating cream 😍).

This looks great, going to try it, with fewer ingredients so I don't have to go shopping. Black soap is great on my wavy hair, I've been using it straight for years. My original bar started out solid, but started absorbing moisture from the atmosphere, so I put it in a mason jar, and it's kept on absorbing water as I used it, and now I have a jar of black soap gel that will apparently never run out.

I can't wait to try this. I have 4C hair and hormonal acne that affects my scalp, leaving it really itchy and irritable (NOT dandruff, not a single flake in sight) every month. I have already tried all the other natural remedies I can think of...peppermint oil, tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar. I use aloe vera gel mixed with EVOO, JBCO and water as my leave in conditioner. I really hope this helps. Thanks so much for the easy recipe. Love that lipstick you're rocking!

I stopped using the shampoos after following your tutorials.Thank you so much as now I enjoy handling my hair and no longer have to listen to crunchy hair.
