Hopefully you guys like this slightly new style of Complete History! I am always trying to push myself with every major video in the editing department, audio department, storytelling department etc... In this video I really pushed myself on the audio front, hopefully, you like the way the music is all mixed together (including a little mini remix by moi) The aim is to make these videos the very best they can be. :) Thank you all again for taking the time to enjoy these videos and giving me the ability to release them on a regular basis... a true dream come true and it's all thanks to you peeps! Great video! I occasionally helped out with testing for Narc 2005 (worked at Midway mostly as a lead tester). It was definitely as boring and awful as you might think, especially because our ideas were never used - Midway was so often behind the trends and didn't put resources into making their clone attempts anywhere near as polished as the real counterparts. No surprise they are gone, aside from remnants at WB and such!

You forgot to mention The Power Team cartoon from the Video Power show. The cartoon show featured characters from Acclaim video games, although Acclaim never actually created these games, but merely published the home console versions. They included Max Force from NARC (originally an arcade game by Williams, ported to the NES by Rare), Kuros from the Wizards and Warriors series (originally created by Rare), Kwirk from the game of the same name (originally by Atlus), Tyrone from Arch Rivals (originally by Midway) and Bigfoot from the game of the same name (developed by Beam Software, and based on the famous monster truck). The cartoon show also featured a cartoon version of the host of Video Power, Johnny Arcade, as they fought against villains from the Acclaim lineup, mainly Mr. Big from NARC, although Malkil from Wizards and Warriors or Kwirk's enemies from his own game occasionally appeared as well. Cut/Paste from Wiki obviously

This was on early morning TV before I left for school - one of a handful of video game related shows on the air at the time. I always thought it was funny that it's just ONE of the Narc guys (Max Force) and that he never wears his helmet, so he never has his look from the game.

Can't lie. Narc was a guilty pleasure of mine. As a kid, I was in love with everything involving emergency services. RoboCop was my favorite movie. C.O.P.S. was my favorite cartoon. I loved watching Rescue 911. And all my favorite characters from shows like GI Joe and Transformers were police, fire, and EMS themed (Lifeline, Doc, Law and Order, Barbecue, Prowl, Ratchet, Red Alert, the Protectobots, etc). I got the game on NES, and while it wasn't the greatest, I held on to it until I finally moved past the NES. Years later, once I was well into my own law enforcement career, I rediscovered it when I started building my MAME library. This is when I got to play the arcade version and back in love it with in its real form.

i remember a programme on uk tv called Network 7 which was on Channel 4. They did a feature on this game. it used to be shown on Sunday morning and in the feature they showed footage of the dogs attacking you in the game and lots of other violent bits unsuitable for daytime tv. I think it was an early attempt to highlight 'violent videogames' but I remember thinking this looks fantastic. they also once showed a performance art feature where a bunch of naked ladies covered in paint were running at a blank canvas making 'art'. The stuff they could show on telly in the 80s!

The big trick is to bust 50 villains that you CAN bust for 250K (and 2 or 3 men/rockets depending on where you were pointwise at the end of a level). Joe Rockhead and Kinky Pinky needed blasting with rockets. Joe could also get taken out by the car's machine guns, while Kinky could become Killer Clown Pancake after flattening him with the car (Joe could take a hit from the car). After you rack up 50 busts, though, you HAD to blast everyone else (the game only allowed for no more than 50 busts/level) Brown-coated pushers had needed ammo, grey-coated ones had needed rockets. 100K got you another life and a rocket, so taking anything for high bonus later was a must. KZbinr "JimmyQballs" had 2 NARC videos where he showed himself using the car as a ramming weapon against grounded choppers on the bridge level (and jumping before contact).

NARC (or the NES version anyway) was also somehow considered family friendly enough for the characters to make their way to the cartoon series "The Power Team." Essentially Captain N in reverse, the video game characters came into the human character's world, and ONLY with Acclaim published video games. Completely forgivable that it didn't make it into the video. It's obscure because it's completely forgettable. The only thing I can even remember about it is a robot version of a character from Kwirk malfunctioning and saying "I'm Blotten Bladdy Bladish" because it cracked me up as a little kid.

Lots of NES ports got by just on their name alone. I'm thinking of Paperboy in this category as well. The Narc NES instructions do have a laugh though, in its description of your mission - "We'd send in the army's special operations division, but that would just send up flags. We need to act more covertly. Which is why you two have been chosen to go in there and spearhead this operation." Yup, walking down the street gunning down everyone in sight - nice covert handling of things, guys!

okay before we even get to NARC I remember hearing the 'Blaster' story about the monitors, there was a short video with Eugene about it in the trivia section of Midway Arcade Treasures 1! luckily I think the only casualty was a Nintendo Donkey Kong Jr. I did enjoy the NES port of NARC, although I know it was a far cry from the arcade original. I do remember that weird phase midway had trying to reboot their classic arcade franchises (NARC, LA Rush, and AREA 51) I don't think any of them turned out any good though.
