Fun fact: according to the SpongeBob wiki, and his voice actor Doug Lawrence, Plankton was only supposed to be in one or two episodes, but Lawrence, as a writer on the show, really liked his character, and after his first recording for Plankton, he wrote down some of his own ideas for the character and passed them onto Stephen Hillenburg. Afterwards, Plankton not only began showing up more, but Lawerence himself also came up with the idea for Plankton and Karen to be an inseparable duo, with Karen being the brains and supplying Plankton with his plans.
