They ALL have huge ego’s, huge lovers of materialistic things, huge lovers of worship of themselves. The church is a group of broken people who found comfort, hope, love and acceptance in Jesus Christ. The pastors KNOW this. Now, there are a rare few who are Bible preaching and live accordingly and don’t need the pastor worship.. (watch the wives too) They DO exist, there are good churches out there and remember all Pastors are humans who are of the same sinful nature as us, who too, have found a love of Christ. They only know more about biblical teachings because they studied it. So you too must study it.

In almost 50 years of Christian life, I have run into so much of this and so many victims. I think that part of the problem is with the seminary industrial complex. Also, the hierarchical way that we do church. But, ultimately... it's sin in the church that allows the wolves to tear the church apart.

I have just had 3 friends in a row, 2 I let live with me that we all narcissists and all believers. 2 of them wanted their own ministries and the last one who just moved out has begun her online ministry. Chaos and control and manipulation going on all around yet this was the time she picked to start her ministry. Let's just be honest here and say that this is the Jezebel spirit and deliverance is sorely needed. Even though they can talk about seeking deliverance, they will never ever follow through. In the end, they hang in to this spirit or it hangs on to them. They will Alway find blame in everyone else and never look at their own heart, their own spirit

Yep. .....and the Narc usually seems to disguise the smear campaign during "prayer time" when the Narc openly airs out his target's dirty laundry (behind that person back) and then calling it "much needed prayer" because the Narc "cares deeply" about that person. Sadly, most people in the room appear to believe every word the Narc says about that person and believes it's because the Narc cares deeply. When in reality the Narc is trying to ostracize the person being prayed for to keep all other people inside the church to remain beholding to the Narc. The next time the subject of discussion being "prayed for" shows back up to church, he/she is treated like a diseased child that "just needs to be prayed for". Isolated and ostracized at ever angle with dirty looks. No self respecting person will continue to subject themselves to that kind of abuse.

Once you recognize you are dealing with a narcissist, you don’t bring them in line. Counseling does not work. They may placate the counselor especially if the councilor does not know how to deal with a narcissist, to meet the standard of attending counseling, and can mimic what they need to, to get back into good graces, but ultimately, THEY WILL NOT CHANGE! Once you know you are dealing with a narcissist, send them down the road.

Narcissistic pastors and leaders also have a God like complex as well.. in their heads they are the Lord and they can dictate who’s qualified or not instead of allowing God to do that for that person.. they have an obsessive need to push on you that they’re the only ones who can ordain you and not God .. they often preach a works based gospel and they enjoy the praises of men rather than God.. they won’t preach to you that Jesus is all that you need because they want all the attention focused on them .. they’ll mock those who have a personal intimate relationship with Jesus .. they hate who they cannot dominate or manipulate.. they can be very legalistic and carnal .. they tend to equate themselves with God or put themselves in the place that God belongs in.. in their minds they are the Lord and they want you to worship them .. not Jesus .. usually they are just simply not born again and they do not possess the Holy Spirit whatsoever.. you will notice that you have to go through them to get to God or that they’re the intercessors of God and man which is complete blasphemy.. so God will abandon them to their foolish and twisted ways .. and the people who follow them who refuse to call them out or rebuke them that will be their judgement.. but there’s always a Godly remnant that will flee and get out of there !

This is exceptionally helpful. It can be very comforting for those who have suffered under a narcissist (but also cause some to close up completely, because it's too close to home from their own experience of suffering at the hands of others). If (since) it is not unlikely that a number of church leaders are narcissists, and if (since) people in their church are likely to be victims too (and those who remain - not having been kicked out - are weaker and still victims), what is the role of other church leaders, from nearby churches (in their association/fellowship / denomination/gospel partnership / or whatever) to act? It is all very well diagnosing narcissism, but if the pastor themselves won't see it and act, if the members of the church are not able to, then who will stand up for the sufferers? If not church leaders (whose approval that pastor will crave, at least in part) then who else? There may be a role for the state (eg Charity Commission) but the threshold for narcissistic abuse of power may be much harder to define than is obvious to the Charity Commission which wants clear cut and absolutely objective criteria. Besides, why should the church delegate its conscience and accountability to the state? (conscience = is this wrong?, accountability = needing to act for the sake of the sheep who are victims).

Excellent presentation and discussion of a difficult subject. I think that one aspect of the problem is that some parts of "the Church" (if there is such a thing) believes that church leadership is authoritarian, just like the God of their minds, and the authoritarian leadership attracts Narcissistic characters who get to do things "God´s way." The choice basically becomes accepting God´s way (meaning the Narc´s way) of doing ministry - or the highway. The office of pastor was not a power grab , just the opposite. Many verses in the Gospels and the Apostle Peter 's Epistles touch on and oppose the abuses inherent in authoritarianism. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye not so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. Lk 22:25-26 KJV

@P Ivan Sanchez I want to say my feeling is while the teachings, philosophy, personal practice of religion can be very valuable, it is toxic people and organizational structures that can destroy the religion. I feel my Buudhist philisophy is great, but the deeply hierarchic organization w/history of narcissistic leaders has been so destructive to my life, i sometimes regret ever being involved! But it was a bit hetter way nadk then & i was able to grow & transform into a better person from my practice. Even as i was being abused and tortured by the narcissistic views. I stay away now, for years now. But i feel a lack of religion/philosophy/spirituality has contributed to the meanness and shallowness of our culture in the USA at least. I think people need what these can provide. Damn natcissistic peiple should go away tho🤨😁😂❤️🙏🏻
@Rain9Quinn
@Rain9Quinn 3 жыл бұрын
@P Ivan Sanchez oh u want examples? Well, no one in any position is held accountable for meanness, threatening juniors, favoring people based on race, immigrant status, or just friendship, and anyone who questions it is gaslighted. Meanwhile people with actual qualifications, experience, knowledge of the teachings, direct training from top leaders, etc., can be denied any place or roll in the communities. Because of the nepotism? Or because of jealous/feeling threatened by a capable person? Then there is widespread gossip, longterm (decades!) grudgeholding, gossiping about things from decades back, never finding out 1. If at all true and 2. The victim’s perspective. A favorite is, “No one else has a problem with this” and liars or abusers just plain lie and deny. They are backed up by their leader-friends. Of the leaders deny reality, inconvenient parts of the teachings, or just lie that “this is no longer the way anymore,” (when the national & international HQ has never made such a change...). When studying together or presenting a preparation about a published lecture, skipping any parts either they dont understand or would paint their own behavior in a bad light. Powergrabbing and seeing leadership roles like work roles, a new one being a promotion! Opposite of the teaching that leaders are servants of the members and appointed to a place they are t ready to succeed at but have shown themselves ready and able to grow into a role. On & on...😞😌

Been a Christian for some time, and was involved with several churches in different parts of the UK. I have some very serious concerns, and have struggled greatly from having been touched inappropriately by two senior church leaders (what I'd call 'low level' - not severely sexually molested, or worse). Suffered much from spiritual and psychological abuse also, by several leaders, and others in several churches. It's all finally come to the surface now, and I'm getting help, and talking about it now. However my story is by no means unique. There must be so very many wounded sheep wandering around the world, deliberately badly treated, and completely alone. I find it very disturbing that if you even speak to these people about what they've done, they don't want to listen; some turn against you, then try to turn others against you. Others don't even want you to SHOW you are hurt, or suffering. Too many people just want you to go/stay quiet. But you really do need to talk, so if you can only get help outside the Church, then that is better than being so extremely anxious, depressed and suicidal. 🚩 I sincerely believe there are many narcissists behind the pulpit. I also believe too many have Psychopathic traits: lying, gaslighting, deliberately hurting people, then not caring at all about how badly it affects them (no remorse), and a lack of empathy. This is extremely dangerous, so we all must keep asking the Lord Jesus Christ for more wisdom, discernment and guidance. As I do this, and am currently taking time out of church (because of how it has been seriously affecting my mental and physical health, debilitating me, making me unable to function normally) it's a necessity at the moment. But I also believe we can ask Jesus to lead us to the right people - safe, kind, genuinely caring people, including genuine spiritual shepherds (pastors). There may not be very many at the moment, but they ARE out there. So please take heart, and remember: Psalm 10 verse 14, and Psalm 34 verses 17 & 18. And that maybe God is doing a new thing, something which will really help the myriads of abused people, Christian and not. God bless you all 🙏 ❤.

The church opened this up on them. There are to be a Apostle over churches with elders in each church who would speak to the church in turns while the others judged, the apostle would travel and keep check of these churches. Today we have got rid of the apostles and instead of elders strong in the word we set up a 'pastor' to run the entire show and church, everyone seeking his own gain and glory. The church is a mess from methodist to pentecostal and been to both. The worse narcissist I ever met was my pentecostal pastor, just fell in love with himself and his gifts and desired and wanted to be worshipped, seeing he was better than all others. I even warned him and told a vision of him but he did not heed. The church was destroyed and destroyed by his own hand. decades later I met him and he is just a shell of who he was, and still tried playing his narcissist games on me. This time they didn't work, he never realized what all the Spirit had been teaching and showing me. I was a victim once, but now God has made be wiser and I praise Him !

We all have free choice including the ones that turn a blind eye or have been deceived! The way to identify a narcissist is how they treat their closest ones behind closed doors. If he demonstrates an inflated need for social importance and admiration let that speak for itself. Put it out there like that short n sweet and they will see it for themselves. The compliant sheep have no back bone and see what they want to see because of the narcissist's insincere/self gratifying works or acts if service. Tell the elders that the bible says go to the person directly to address this issue if that doesn't work bring 2 witnesses if that doesn't work tell the church. The church needs to hold these people accountable not shun them but give them the oppurtunity to repent and humble themselves. If they don't do this that LIABILTY lies on them. Everything done in the dark will come to light. The manipulative narcissist will play the victim, act like he is only human when caught in a mistake, blame everyone else, not take responsibility. Only the humble will see God's face. The goal is for us to forgive and the narcissist to learn so he changes but someone needs to hold them accountable. We need a prodical son to learn his lesson not stay home n be enabled while carrying out bad examples of behavior.

I heard him say in a sermon that God's mercy is limited, and his church was very healthy doctrinally speaking" As far as Scripture goes in Lamentations 2:24 God's mercies are new every morning and by the Lord's mercies we are not destroy.

When the first sentence if who they are as a church states "We don't take sides in political arguments." That is a Narcissist statement. People quit the church due to the US political issues. Number 1 - that was his personal problems with others. Number 2 - I've heard numerous sermons regarding politics. Number 3 - Politics should never even been talked about in church. Number 4 - He had a personal problem because people quit the church. That should be between himself and the Lord.

I pointed it to him & mention her neighbor's name. He recognizes her & was told to leave the ch. We all left 678 in number. All left at one go. God will flush out such leaders. Narcissists don´t take any responsibility for their actions or their nature so others have the responsibility for the harmony between everybody. That´s nothing healthy at all, but that doesn´t matter for them as long as they can play the "normal" one even when they had therapy.

Jesus warned us "The hireling careth not for the sheep" (John 10:13, KJV). He didn't say only some hirelings. It's all of them. Read Pagan Christianity: Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices by Frank Viola and George Barna. The whole system is pagan, aka satanic.

Narcissists see the role of pastor as a leadership role and many take the preeminence in the assembly which is condemned in scripture. The role of Pastor is like any other role in the body of Messiah and is a place of service. All the ones I have seen are carnally minded rather than spiritually minded. The divide the flock many times and scatter them.

Some leaders play a memory loss game making us believe that we (people) never ever brought these issues to their notice or told to them.... This is called the hight of ignorance and a falso claims... And blaming people for approach to these leaders.... But Jesus never did so... He paid 100% attention to what people came up with and did only God told Him to do.... He was always available to attend them... Leaders prepare themselves only to preach... But not to practice what they preach...

Narcissism is the residue attitude from the old man life of the carnal man before the rebirth of a believer. Every Christian has to contend against the carnal mind which is enmity against God. God is not angry of against the carnal Christian but the worldly thinking is contrary to the new creature love nature of Jesus. All Christians need to repent and be delivered from demonic thinking. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
