Yes!! Set boundaries. Let them know too! This happens with bosses in the work place too. Once you figure out someone's sociopathic (narcissistic), never take anything they say, especially criticisms, to heart. I've learned that the hard way. I was open to constructive feedback, except all they do is give you negative/destructive feedback while withholding the positive feedback. It's pure manipulation 101. Corporate America is full of these insecure a-hole managers.

Officers are Narcissistic Army Leaders: My Platoon Sergeant was a Narcissist. In the Army, you had to give 110% every single day; otherwise, they would make your life a living hell. You had to hide your pain and fear, unsure of what the training schedule would entail. You didn't know if your weekends would be taken away. While in garrison, I felt like my only purpose was to make leadership look good. Zero self-improvement - Wow, this is great therapy - Thanks, Soulja - I wish you were my Section Sgt. years ago.

It’s the same way in the trades…..they never like it when you’re happy.
