I got to spend about an hour with Bushwick about 8 years ago, I think. I met him at the Continental club in Austin. I went up to him at the bar and thanked him for his art and what he had contributed to the world. He said, "Let me buy you a beer." I said, "No thank you I don't drink." Him: "You smoke weed?" Me: "Yes sir, I do." He said "Come on. We gonna smoke some weed." First he has me follow him out front where I guess he had his buddy waiting for him in a truck. Bushwick tells him to "put on that shit I just recorded." They had just recorded the day before and he puts it on and it's him rapping over a live band and it was fucking incredible. And he's standing right in front of me and he's rapping along with himself and it struck me at that moment how incredibly fortunate I was at that moment. After a couple of songs I follow him back through the club where he just asks some random guy if he's got any weed and the guy is agreeable and we go out back where the guy produces some excellent cannabis. We smoke it and hang out and talk for a while. He wasn't wearing his glass eye or sunglasses so, you know, I'm getting to see right inside his eye socket the whole time. Anyway, it was a great conversation and just a wonderful experience to meet him and get to hang out with him. I'm so blessed to have had the opportunity. As I was walking away he said "you got my phone number?" I said no. He said, "I guess that's your problem, huh?" Fucking LEGEND.
