I don't feel like Nardwuar is ever really "trying to be funny" during interviews. He certainly has a general kind of inherent levity to his character and I think he sometimes decides based on intuition/history that certain people are interesting to "press" a little, but other than that, it's just a matter of form, and one that a lot of people get uncomfortable with. A lot of negative responses in interviews he's done have included, "Who cares about the details", but I think certain kinds of people find the details just as worthwhile as the big picture. Sometimes we just want to be able to have the whole 'tapestry' laid out with no missing pieces. It's a bold goal. During interviews, Nardwuar isn't exactly out to give the artists their 1,000,000th 'opportunity' this week to jerk their ego-dicks about whatever new shit they're doing; he shows up to make conversation, try his best to set the record straight about things surrounding the artists in question, and get whatever it is he came for. Guerrilla journalism, something fierce.

I’d call it enthusiasm more than levity. To me, levity doesn’t really capture Nard’s committed depth of research & unshakable persistence. Real enthusiasm is utterly awe-inspiring. Posers on TED spend years trying to seem enthusiastic or make others enthusiastic, but rarely just ARE enthused radiantly. Nard is really special, he’s **energetically** enthused 24/7 😆
