But at the same time I think it's a disservice to any and all involved as well as those on the sidelines to excuse or even simply dismiss such actions as the result of alcohol and or drug use. It explains but does not excuse the behaviour only if we believe the party line. Who's to say that they were truly all coked up or coming down or whatever the fuck he went on about. They could be full of shit and they just felt like being cunts that day. It has been known to happen, even to people who do not and have never used and also have no notable history of acting in such a manner. I'm not saying one way or the other which is the case because obviously there is no way to know for sure. But I learned a long time ago never to accept a person's word at face value. people lie for all sorts of reasons and in this case lying about behaviour caused by drug use would be the more palatable and forgivable explanation, as being a vile nasty person by nature is much more disturbing to most.

@skeletalwreck4 жыл бұрын
Just for a little bit of context, but not to entirely defend his behaviour. I have read several Blur biographies and there is some background context to take into consideration. In the 90's Dave was a very heavy drinker, leading up to his divorce in the early 2000's. This led to a very heavy cocaine habit, where he described his own behaviour has erratic and highly out of character, due to being in a very bad place mentally. He has stated many times, that this all came to a head with this very interview and he also said that "the day after a cocaine binge I'd sometimes fly into a murderous rage," and that this was the case on the day of that interview. By 2007, he stated that he had stopped using drugs and was "active in the recovery community". He has also said that he keeps a clip of this interview on his phone, to re-watch if he ever considers relapsing into drug use.

i think people in the comments are being a bit unfair. dave was definitely out of order but considering this was one of the most stressful points in the bands history, it's not unreasonable to see why maybe at one point one of them would lash out. the band was dealing with graham's leaving due to his alcoholism after months of fighting with one another. they didn't even want to make another record. dave was abusing cocaine at this time too, so was Alex. Damon was busy with gorillaz, Graham was completely catatonic and none of them were in a healthy mindset. the 90s left them in very rough shape and after a while, I'd imagine they just got sick of the bullshit of the media. the media in Britain pretty much made their lives hell during the 90s and i think it really had an effect on them. all three of them were out of sorts in this interview ESPECIALLY dave. dave is a really nice person and quite calm too in pretty much all of his interviews, cocaine just really changed his behavior badly. this doesn't represent them at all. this was just such a stressful point in the band's history. after this record they didn't talk to each other for years due to the trauma of it all. i also don't think the band appreciated Nardwuars personality all that much, i just think maybe they found him quite overwhelming and possibly just another "idiot from the media." im not defending them but i am giving context as to why this interview was a recipe for disaster

Nardwuar is a very good person. Nardwuar has a very big heart. He is one of the most respected interviewers who asks the best questions. Not only that he always comes bearing gifts. Then the gift he gives you you can tell that this guy has went and found out every single thing he could find out about the person and their music taste. Then he presents them with a treasured memorabilia that you're connected with. When nardwuar is not doing his act. He's the most sweetest and respectable guy one could meet. He would never think about doing anything that just happened to him. If I would have saw that I would have f****** kicked dude's ass. Everyone ducks in blur were complete egomaniacs and complete assholes. It didn't matter what they were on. They were stuck up. They are rude to their fans. Rude to the bands that have to tour with them and play shows with them. They would literally sometimes bring a fan backstage just to see how much they could torment that person to see how much they could take being pushed around by people they idolized. I've heard of some pretty mean things that they've done on the road. Oh and let me tell you about this guy's Coke habit. These guys got off the plane in America. They were looking for cocaine and claimed they wanted to buy a large amount to last them until they got to the West Coast. So my friend who was their tour manager called me up and asked for me to come and meet. They told me that these guys we're we're looking to buy a large quantity of cocaine and could I handle that. I told them yes I have a friend that is a drug dealer to the famous. So I meet up with these guys. I told them that we wouldn't be able to meet my guy for a couple hours. They asked if I could score anything else in the meantime something smaller off the streets. I said okay I could. I asked them how much they wanted. I told him on the streets they sell these $10 bags which are basically a tenth of a gram. So figuring that they would at least want one bag for each of them. They asked me to get two bags $20 worth of Street cocaine. Then I watch these guys take one of the $10 bags and make out 5 lines I heard of this tenth of a gram bag of Coke. They asked me if I wanted one of the lines. Which I declined because that much coke would have done nothing to me except making me Feen for more. Then my guy called and I was expecting them to at least want an ounce of coke at the least to get them across the US. They were bragging literally about how much cocaine they could do. But after seeing them literally break one bag into five lines and claimed to get really high off of it. I knew something wasn't going to be quite right. So my guy called and I asked them how much coke did they want. They literally ask me how much a couple grams costed. I was so pissed off at that point for calling up a guy and have him on his way to meet me. And these guys only wanted two grams of coke. this guy sells nothing less then a ounce. So I told the guys direct cost $250 a gram but it was really good stuff. Then I took their $500 and bought myself an ounce of coke from the guy I was getting it from. If they were told me right off the bat they wanted an ounce. I would have got him an ounce for $500. But they piss me off saying they only wanted them measly 2 grams. So they took off on tour went all the way to the West Coast. when they got to Washington State. I had them call my other friend to meet them to sell them or Coke. he told me when they met up with him they only bought one more gram. He told me that they still had some almost a full gram by the time they got to Washington State from New York. Most Coke addicts I know would have had that cocaine finished in a few hours and wanting to buy more. but these guys spent 22 days going across the u.s. and still had cocaine. and it was only like months later when they broke up. so this guy's claim of being this big coke head that would come down off benders was totally an understatement. These guys are just assholes. That's why their band couldn't even stay together that long because they're all such egomaniacs with big heads. none of them could even compromised to come to an agreement.
