Once I found that it was a cover I immediately looked into more of her music; I’ve been in love with it since. As a writer I love how she says she wants to convey the emotion instead of using swear words as a cheap out. I have so much respect for her. This was a great interview

Well this settles my question of if Joanna Newsom was a Harpo fan. Let me just say this once. Harpo is a fucking GOD of harp playing. He was my favorite Marx brother. My favorite parts of all the movies were the moments when Harpo was able to do a solo piece, he played with such joy and beauty it brought tears to my eyes. His wife and he were unable to have children so they adopted MANY and he was such a kind and loving, happy soul. Thumbs up if you love Harpo Marx.

Hey Charles. Since in the last week that I have viewed Nardwuar and his interviews; I am astounded at the tenacity and research he puts forth towards his interviews. Your example of Rollins is a perfect example. In the 98 interview Rollins gives him a stipulation of two more questions, and ends up getting so much more.

weak interview for nardwuar - shame he didnt do her justice. he couldve brought out rumours by fleetwood mac - shes said before it was the first pop music album she got into. or he couldve brought out blue by joni mitchell - shes referenced it on her album have one on me, and said in interviews that she loved the piano on that album. he couldve brought out a neutral milk hotel record - shes said before she was obsessed with jeff mangum in high school. even when he asked her if shes ever cursed on a record - on her debut home-made ep, walnut whales, she has a version of en gallop where she repeatedly yells “bitch.” cmon nardwuar lol

Anyone inspiring to be an interviewer should watch and learn from the master, Nardwuar. Most interviews don't know shit about who they're interviewing. Nardwuar takes the time to thoroughly, thoroughly research his subjects. Haters gon' hate.

I was at a 2003 gig in Leeds and Joanna applied the super glue. Some chap yelled out: "you're so rock n roll Joanna" in a thick West Yorkshire accent. Joanna replied: "why thankyou Sir". Everyone laughed hysterically. Amazing show. She is a true artist. Only Skin is one of the greatest songs I have ever listened to.

I think this might have been the laziest Nardwuar interview I've seen. Usually he does a stand-up job but he didn't dig deep with Joanna. He just threw two random harp records at her (hoping she'd known one of them) then asked her basic harp questions. There was no deep insight (besides the Paula Abdul tidbit).
