One thing I love is that Earndil actually showed that Baldric was concerned for Picktern when Tannhauser first brought up that something had happened to him. It wasn't huge but the quick way he was speaking indicated he was legit bothered. Even if he kept up the stoic demeanor when he got the bad news, for just a moment we heard Baldric actually care about another person for a very brief moment.

The thing is, Baldric cares. Even too much, actually. Even in the first episodes, when he wanted to distance himself from the rest of the group it was for their protection as much as his own, if not more for them. He immediately cared when Vaali got more rotten, always looked out for them. In the trap in the swamp, when Earndil lost it about the fact that he cares for the group getting killed, it could have been Baldric in character. Since day 1, he cares for the group to be alive and okay. He'll make Elixirs of Life to help, he'll make plans and tactics, and try to make them work.

If he didn't care, he wouldn't do what he does. There's plenty of different career options in Outset for someone of his skills who is genuinely misanthropic.

Vina apparently continues the long held tradition of skypirates shortening perfectly good Finnish words. Vali -> Vaali (a vote, an election, kinda apt for a leader) Vina -> Viina (booze, alcohol, ... ... also fitting)

Hmm, unexpected overlap there with Romance languages. Presumably from the Latin word Vino -> Wine. It's also the root of the English word vine, which grapes grow on. I knew it was in Germanic languages a lot too but Finnish? Language is nuts.

We got a lot of our words from Sweden, which was more influenced by the rest of the European languages, which got a lot of inspiration from Latin in turn. We also got a lot from Russia, but less obviously so and then just hoarding everything from any relative proximity as languages are want to. And then experts say ours is closest to Japanese out of all of the languages (except for Estonian, which is basically weirdly spoken Finnish anyhow [or vice versa]). Which greatly vexed us and Hungarians, with whom we like to think that Hungarian and Finnish peoples came to Europe together from over the Ural mountains and have remained siblings to each other language-wise. And there is surprisingly same-ish cadence in both languages. Also fun tidbit about the names, although it's been mentioned before too: Rehua, our local chaotic tree man, means pretty much "part of fodder/animal feed". The basic form of the word would be "rehu", but with -a, it can also be "basic form", but in more passive form. Not really linguist myself, so it's harder to explain the difference or the relative lack of it.

I have to admit, I lost steam near the end of the second season. I still looked forward to it, I still watched it all, but I usually didn't watch the last few episodes of season 2 more than once. I've watched this episode 3 times now, and I can really feel the fire has reignited in all parts of this series. I love this show, and I love narrative declaration.
