I'm glad these engine still run on Steam unlike the ones at Six Flags Over Georgia

1:01 I wonder what the purpose of that metal pipe that extends out from the top of the firebox what does it do and does the green train still have that

The insulated pipe to the left looks to be a steam line to the oil atomizer/heater manifold. Another is for the feedwater injector. Cannot exactly tell in dark video.

@@lineshaftrestorations7903 very interesting I wasn’t quite sure I’m not sure if they still have that I think they re-modified the cab interior

Thank you for sharing this video. Are you going to upload any more vintage videos of that train? I would love to see more of videos of the Six Flags and Texas Railroad in the early 2000s

I've got a lot of 8mm video that hasn't been digitized yet. I'll put up what I can.

OK, no worries that would be great. Thanks for bringing back all those memories.

You know these engines are still owned by the plantation

I would not be happy firing for an engineer when he is using my steam with the throttle open and the automatic brakes engaged. Sounds like he was pulling the hill with the Johnson Bar in the third notch. Charlie Patton retired in 1982 at the age of 94. He died in 1990 at the age of 102.

Proper firing was not being practiced that day.

It’s also noted that back then I never noticed when I was a kid, but I can tell back then General Sam which was still LBC her Valve timing was way off and at the same time back then when I first met CJ P I can tell that the timing on CJP was dead on center when we go through the tunnel I couldn’t hear perfect chugging in comparison to LBC. The steam exhaust is being admitted to early and too late.

Working steam against the brakes has its advantages, helps keep the train slacked out, provided the fireman with more draft so he can set a hotter fire to offset the increased steam consumption, and it provides you with more control over your speed when going downhill from Johnson Creek to the ghost town saloon
