1905 Morris Machine Works 4" Dredging Pump Returned to Operation

A 2015 estate sale find, this circa 1905 Morris Machine Works 4" Sand & Gravel Dredging pump needed custom pipe flanges fabricated to connect to on hand standard 3-1/2" and 4" pipe fittings. The bearings only needed fresh grease and the shaft some additional packing. The restoration was remarkably easy and completely successful. This effort culminated in its public debut at the May 2024 Oklahoma Steam Threshers & Gas Engine Show at Pawnee, Oklahoma.

Great video about a great find! Thanks for showing the process and workarounds. I am working on a couple old water pumps and an air pump to run with hit+miss engines, but there's something special about a pump that puts out that volume of water. The rare 4 Hp Mogul is a big part of the display.

I worked ar Ridgid for a bit and never saw a geared head threader being used. Were the chasers on the Toledo still sharp?

The 3" set that it came with the threader were incredibly stuck, rusted in. Once out, the 3-1/2" set was put in. Initially they wouldn't all cut evenly. Through some experimentation I found how to grind them so they would all work.

Running the engine cooling water into the tank was discussed. The bet was if someone were to crawl in they had to be able to get out unassisted. 😉
