If you’re new to our channel, just a little introduction. We are Julie and Martin and in 2021 we sold our house and gave up our jobs, to live full time on a narrowboat. We bought our 2004 narrowboat Rhapsody in Blue in the September and have been living full time onboard ever since. We hadn’t intended on vlogging, but recorded videos for ourselves and family and it has escalated into the weekly vlogs you see today, so lovely to have you all onboard! ❤️

Hi Andrea, so glad you like the map, someone asked if we could show where we are in the country, so I try to do that before showing our boat on the journey map. Me and Martin sort of fell into our roles, he does the messy engine, steering and heavy jobs and I do the cooking, filming, editing and the locks, sometimes it’s easier that way though, as we don’t have to worry who is doing what, it just happens. But I do need to practice more at the tiller, in case I can’t do the locks first any reason. Martin is a good handy man too, he’ll try his hand at most things 👍 Thank you so much for the lovely comments, thank you Andrea! xx

And yes there are a lot of tight places and other boats that do speed, as you did say Julie .Tick over when passing is the way on the canal. Not full speed . Plus the over hanging trees did give Holly the Cafe boat some issues as they lost there chummily dot knock of in to the canal and they had to get it back with a magnetic on a rope to get it back.

Right now here in Washington State on the eastern side, we're in the midst of a thunderstorm and the wind is getting wild!

Hi Joyce, it’s funny, I know I need to learn and practice more at the tiller just in case of emergency etc, but I’m not very comfortable steering and you can just see immediately on Martin’s face that he prefers to be there lol. Wow, we love thunderstorms, but we don’t get them as good as yours, ours are just a little clap of thunder before fizzling out, yet when we were in Memphis it went on for a good hour or so, big loud bangs, just brilliant! Hi Claire, we feel very honoured, please thank your hubby, it’s lovely to know he enjoyed our video too! 😃 Re West Ham, unfortunately just before we ventured onto our boat in 2021, Martin lost his Dad, and West Ham was their joint passion, his Dad literally lived for WHU, he was the original Alf Garnet lol. Martin has the big WHU plaque at the back of the boat as a nod to him, but he’s lost the passion for following the game. Martin keeps an eye on their scores and club position, and watches the odd highlights, he’ll always be a West Ham fan, but not having his Dad to banter with has really taken the shine off it. Martin did say though, that Jared Bowen is a good little player and that WHU will be lucky to keep a hold of him, looks like other clubs are trying to get him. Just hope West Ham manage to keep him, recently making him captain is a good sign! Thank you so much Claire! xx

Great video! Number 100 is impressive! You met lots of friends on this trip and that's always fun. Having wash water go into the boat isn't good but at least it smelled nice. I once had Febreze leak into my Jeep carpet. I couldn't figure out why the world smelled so good. BTW, anytime anyone is near Rugby Boats I look for Bumble. Adorable helper on the boat tours.

I enjoy your vlogs, can't believe it's 100🎉 are you both still enjoying being on your boat? And as a newby to living on a boat what words of wisdom can you give me? It definitely has had some struggles but starting to get used to it. Getting our stove converted in October with Paul (Lockgates) have a few jobs to do on our boat, sometimes I just need some encouragement from someone who knows what they're talking about. 😊x

Hi Helen, the answer is absolutely yes! We wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, we just love being on the water, we are most definitely home! Words of wisdom? 🤔 Just take things slowly, don’t rush or be rushed, if something goes wrong, don’t worry too much, it can always be fixed. It does take a little time to get used to living on a boat, but once you’ve transitioned, you won’t want to be anywhere else 🥰 Are you cc’ing, or in a marina, I can’t remember? If there’s anything you’re not sure of, or if we can help in any way, don’t hesitate to message! Bet you can’t wait to get the stove sorted, no more coal and dust! Speak soon Helen! xx

@@JulieandMartinonRIB We are in a marina as my husband still works mostly from the boat, but we do go out and about now after a few problems, our batteries aren't great so we will need to invest in new ones at some point, we had rope around our rudder when we cruised from Northwich to scarisbrick marina (if your ever up this way coffee or some wine is on me!) so couldn't get out for a bit until it was sorted. We are planning to go into Liverpool and stay at the Salthouse docks which might be in September. Plenty of places to visit up here so looking forward to making time to see it all on our boat. Did you find the diesel stove better on your chest less coughing?x😊

Hi Helen, yes the diesel stove stopped the winter cough! So much cleaner and all you need to worry about is making sure you have enough diesel 👍 Once we’re done here with the Historic boat rally, then we’ll be heading north, via Birmingham, all new waters for us, can wait! Hopefully we’ll get to meet up out on the cut! Thanks Helen xx

Hi guys, I love how you have such a great boating community on the canals. Having an excellent you tube channel helps too I suppose so many people now are avid watchers including me.😁 Also your channel is very informative for new boaters. It really is like being on your adventures with you. Do boaters ever travel on the canals at night or is there a set time you have to wind up for the day? That per specs window is a good idea and it's cleaver how it fits into the fly screen slot. I made a home made screen for a sliding door once. The first day we used it my wife forgot and walked right through it.🤣🤣😂😂 Stay safe guys and I'll see you on the next one, I'm still catching up on your older vids.👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Geoff, yes occasionally boaters do cruise at night, they must have their navigation lights on, but it is ok. We had one boat go through the Braunston locks at 1am two nights ago! Goodness your poor wife, walking through the Perspex, hope she was ok! Thanks Geoff! xx

After you become comfortable driving the boat, Martin should take a turn filming up front. Now, I'm not saying it would but, just be careful your finger doesn't "accidentally" hit the loud hooter button while he's up there filming... when he's least expecting it. That would be a terrible thing to happen. 😁 Oh, can ladies be Rat Bags or is that just a guy thing? 🤔😄 Thanks guys. Take care.

I really enjoyed your 100th vlog! You two make me laugh oftentimes 😁 I’m with you Julie on piloting the boat on the narrow canals. I would be afraid of a collision, but you’re really doing well! Keep practicing and as someone else said, Martin can go up front and you can blast him with the hooter when he least expects it 😂😂 somehow I don’t think it would phase him. He seems to be a very calm person! I’m looking forward to the next 100 vlogs. Cheers!

Hi George, lovely to hear from another West Ham supporter! 👍⚒️ The boat was already named when we got her, so not an option lol, but Martin has got a cast iron shield at the back of the boat, he showed it in our boat tour. His Dad was an avid WHU fan too, a bit of an Alf Garnett lol, so the shield is a nod to him too. But yes, COYI! Thanks George! xx
