John what are the benefits of using International brand Yaght Primer over Red Oxide?

Thanks for clearing up the point on sanding down, makes perfect sense. You mentioned 2 types of primer, the aluminium and the zinc phosphate but you didn’t mention two pack epoxy - are there issues with the two pack that mean that the rest of the paint process has to be done differently?

Yes using two pack you have to be careful as overcoating with single pack products can be lead to problems and in a lot of cases you will have to rub down the the two pact to gain a key which in turn reduces the flim thinkness

John Barnard Ltd. - thanks John - my sail away came primed in two pack which is rather thin in places as rust spots are showing through - guess I’m going to have to rub these areas down as well as the rest of the boat and start again with the Aluminium based primer - thanks again for your videos and comments

do I need to put an undercoat over sanded old paint?

I would suggest 2 coats to give you a good base for you top coats

@@JohnbarnardBiz thankyou, there are a few scratches, down to the original undercoat if i cant sand them down level what do you suggest me fill them them with or will 2 coats of undercoat do the job. Im just want to paint a top coat within the coach lines
