Happy Saturday! 🥰 Hope you are having a wonderful day. I'm kind of late commenting so your day is winding down. I watched on the TV last night, but I can't comment from there. Lovely to see Heidi and Bonny. She's a sweet little dog. I enjoy their adventures. 😊 You seem to attract dogs wherever you go! It might make you a little sad but I'd bet that it is very healing as well. Dogs do that. 🐕 So do cats. 🐈‍⬛ ❤ Fall seems to be getting into gear here. It's been pretty hot but some leaves are falling already. 🍂 Supposed to be 90 today and then drops into the 70's tomorrow. I'm good with that! BTW, I loved those horses. It is one of our favourite villages Pauline. We used to walk Dexter there all the time before we got the boat. The roast was delish. I don’t think I am looking for cooking tips from Heidi 😂. It really does feel like we are living our best life. We have never had so many friends and support. The loss of Dexter just emphasises how amazingly kind people can be. We do feel very lucky to have the canals as our backyard and the welcoming boating community. There is some effort but it pays in dividends. Hope you have a lovely week ❤️

Well, this took me back...Lived in Burscough for forty-five years then we moved (October 22) to South Wales with the Mon & Brec Canal at the side of our garden. Twas lovely to see Burscough again...the thing I don't miss is the swing bridge on Crabtree Lane, constantly breaking down 😊 Surprised you didn't take your camera into The Wharf...always busy there on a sunny weekend. Hello Paul and Anthony, I love the way, whilst on your adventures you keep bumping into your lovely friends as you go along. That's really nice. Nice Art work Paul. When Paul was walking along the towpath, for a brief moment I looked for Dexter. I'm sure you must do the same, and even more so. I loved the way Paul set up his camera inside the boat, went outside, and with a snap edit Paul opened the door (from the outside) and entered the boat. Those 2 Black horses were gorgeous. I liked it when you said "we have time for a 1/2pint of cider". Scene cut to Paul and Anthony having a Pint each, this made me smile (enjoy). Another fantastic and enjoyable Vlog. Thank you. Thanks for jogging some memories for me. My ears pricked up when you mentioned Ormskirk because my aunt ran a children's home there. I can remember being taken to a posh restaurant on Parbold Hill called The Wiggin Tree and if memory serves me correctly there was a quarry next door. I am going back 50 years or so. Damn, the amount of times I've walked that stretch around Appley Bridge with an old friend. He died of cancer around 3 years ago. Used to spend hours fishing various parts of the canal there too. I used to growl at passing narrowboats!. Also, this question is for Anthony: My grandmother used to own a well known chippy on Greenough Street in Wigan (just up the road from the old Central Park). She used to come to visit and always cooked. Her favorite thing to cook was a traditional Lancashire HotPot (of course, what else?). She made mashed carrots and turnips. I make carry on that tradition today and make it, and my friends here in Pennsylvania love it. The turnip here goes by the name "rutabega" which I think is German. There is a lot of German influence in Pennsylvania. I boil the carrot and turnip together, then mash with butter and black pepper. Question is this, the Swede, or Turnip? Now, I remember the bigger one of the two (skin is yellow and purple) being the turnip and the smaller (more white in colour) being the Swede. Which one is it? Have a good weekend guys. Chippy tea, Chippy tea, I want a chippy tea. But you keep gee'in me posh nosh, and it ain't no use to me.................!!

Are Sommersby Ciders British? I have tried Sommersby Apple Cider but found it a bit too sweet but the Blackberry one might be worth searching for. Tasmania is known as the Apple Isle and does have a couple of ciders of it's own that are exported - including Mercury and Willie Smith. I prefer Mercury Hard Century over the Draught or the Dry.

Mercury Cider was established 1911 in Hobart but is part of Carlton United Breweries (Fosters) Launceston's Brewery is Boags but overseas owned . Prince Phillip visited Boags. Hi Anthony and Paul, you have been such an inspiration and the vlogs are always great. We have finally after nearly two years found our narrowboat which we joyously take ownership of on 30/10/24. The boat is fitted with a Compoost toilet which looks very similar to the one on Morning Star. Typical for the topic for narrowboat folk to be toilets!!!!! We’re a little wary of the Compost toilet idea but as you have first hand experience I thought it would be useful to get your views/ experience. I suppose the first question would be are you staying with a composting loo or moving to something else on the new “Morning Star”?? How long do you have to keep the solid waste on board and where do you dispose of it??? We’ve heard loads of stories so thought it better to ask someone who has lived with it. Hi guys. Congratulations re the boat. Looking forward to seeing you on the cut very soon. We are sticking with Compoost. It is the best solution for us as live aboards. The liquid part is very easy to get rid of, so long as you are away from a water source, it is ok to tip in a hedgerow as it is essentially natural nitrate. It will take 12 months if you are truly composting but the reality is, most will either dig a hole and bury it or bag and bin. I know there is controversy regarding this but CRT say they discourage, not ban it. I do think it is short sighted of them not to provide composting bins near elsans but can see that they may get abused and other non composting material gets thrown in. We don’t often talk about it because everyone has an opinion on it. We have some friends that use dog waste bins and these get incinerated. Hope that helps.
