Tobi has probably had to wait DECADES for the opportunity to extract the Kyuubi from its host. Plothole Number 4: Kyuubi recognized Tobi (chapter 501 page 8 ). The Kyuubi actually recognizes Tobi and possibly knows who he is. If THAT doesn't convince you, nothing will. The Kyuubi made a direct transfer from being sealed into Mito to being sealed into Kushina, so there is a fundamental contradiction for the Kyuubi to recognize anyone in the outside world when it was sealed for all that time. If the Kyuubi actually recognized Tobi, it means Tobi has to be someone who was alive during Hashirama/ Madara's generation. Plothole Number 5: Tobi is too tall (chapter 503 page 9). Tobi was shown to be adult sized when he fought Minato, chapter 503 page 5. But on page 9, Kakashi, Gai, Asuma and Kurenai are all shown to be much shorter as they are going through adolescence. Obito would have been around that size and is therefore too short to be Tobi. Plothole Number 6: Minato would've figured it out (chapter 500-504). If Tobi was really Obito, then Minato would have figured it out when they were fighting each other. Obito was Minato's own student and would have recognized his chakra, but he didn't. Plothole Number 7: This is HIS doing (chapter 560 page 2). "This is HIS doing." That means Madara knows exactly who Tobi is, but there is no way Madara could have worked with Obito because Madara had died already. Problem is, Hashirama was dead before Obito was born. Plothole Number 9: During Our Battle (chapter 512 page 9). "This is something I grew from living tissue I stole from him during our battle." Kabuto already revealed the Madara coffin so there was no reason for Tobi to keep lying. So if Tobi actually had a fight with Hashirama there is no way he could be Obito. Plothole Number 10: Too Much Knowledge. It is impossible for Obito to know so much about the bloody history between the Senju clan and the Uchiha clan before Konoha was even established as a shinobi village. Tobi has to be someone from that generation. It is also impossible for Obito to know so much about Rikudou Sennin, his sons, the Bijuu and the Juubi. THE BIGGEST PLOTHOLE OF THEM ALL. Plothole Number 11: Nagato is much older than Obito. Why is this important? Because Tobi GAVE Nagato the Rinnegan. In other words, it is impossible for Obito to have given kid Nagato the Rinnegan. Okay, I don't understand. Obito being Tobi made perfect since from the beginning. Kishimoto had been hinting at it subtly throughout the entire series (Right eye always being covered, Obito being discussed since the very beginning, and how Obito knew about Naruto's birth.) And, a lot of the points people use to try and say Obito being Tobi makes no sense are easily negated. A: "Obito couldn't have survived being crushed." Well, I don't think Izuna (The character everyone wanted to be Tobi) couldn't have survived being IMPALED through the chest either. B: "It ruins the timeline because there's no way Obito could become strong enough to fight Minato as a 13-14 year old." Really? We've seen epic skill from early teen children throughout the entire series, with children taking on more experienced adult ninja since Zabuza. And Obito was trained by basically the anti-Christ of the Naruto world, so it makes sense Last, but no least, C: "Obito's reason for turning dark, being friend zoned, was pathetic and nonsensical." Well, don't forget it wasn't just that Rin died, Obito was angered not only by her death, but because she died a needless death as a child solider, which made Obito hate the world for causing war." Add all that up, and it's obvious why Obito being Tobi makes sense. So honestly, why is everyone so sore about it?

Considering all the similarities between Tobi and Obito...it makes sense that Tobi is Obito.' The flashback here was actually important and showed Tobi's true past, and it was nice to see how Kakashi, Rin, and Obito interacted together. It's still important to see what they were like before Obito died so yeeha. Also eventually they did show what happened after he died. Kakashi isn't 6 back then, he is 10. Obito was 14 and he alreayd unlocked his sharingan when he fought the mist ninja. Him already controlling the nine tails and being so powerful is one of the main issues along with him surviving...but other then those....him being Tobi makes sense. Like he did get Hashirama cells and Madara training so he would at least be a little stronger and know about his Mangekyou abilitity and stuff but him being as strong as he was already didn't make sense, but that's not a deal breaker, same with him being crushed, there are some plot holes to his backstory but it mostly makes sense.

Look at Obito’s face closely, the side that looks deformed is just older looking. My theory is the side that got crushed is the side that got replaced by someone who is an uchiha. The Uchiha that I think is Izuna due to his knowledge. The rest of tobi’s right side is zetsu, the left is obito with izuna consciousness. That makes more sense since we know that his right side was crushed along with the sharingan. If you transplant an eye into a uchiha body can that eye become sharingan.

Kishimoto’s point of making obito evil is because he wanted to explicitly show what naruto could’ve become if he went down a path of darkness like sasuke. The difference of other naruto parallels like nagato or gaara and obito is that obito’s personality is exactly like naruto. I get what “kishi” was going for but IMO he didn’t really go with that idea of “naruto becoming evil” enough. I always wondered what would happen with the story if naruto and sasuke had somehow switched places. It would’ve been interesting if naruto ended up going off with orochimaru instead of sasuke. Naruto having gotten fed up with being mistreated by the village gets kidnapped by orochimaru, who decides he wants kurama and sees potential in naruto. Or possibly the akatsuki goes after naruto and raises him instead. Both would make fascinating hypotheticals and I think people have already done some videos on the subject. Naruto could’ve very easily been swayed down that path and if “kishi” focused on an angle more similar to that with obito, I’d be more satisfied. Plus evil naruto is just such a badass idea. I could see there being a lot of depth in a story like that.

The bull shit retcons required to not only have Obito survive but meet and be trained by Madara, and unlock/master the Mangekyo Sharingan to the extant that he could go toe to toe with Minato. As well as the entire motivation behind stealing and unleashing the Kyuubi on his hometown, and his personal motives themselves. So many things have to be ignored to believe Tobi and Minato clashed. That's "for starters".

Nova Let's just look at some facts real quick. Obito murdered Kushina's Anbu guards and midwives which apparently included the 1st Hokage's wife. So there goes that presumption. He acted on his own behalf after being tricked by Madara into falling to the dark side and recruited something like 8 S-ranked murderers to the akatsuki with a plan that would kill several jinchuriki. Also, when facing Minato for the first time since Rin's death he'd have a few questions as to how a man who could teleport couldn't save his teammates. He might even get emotional. But that didn't happen. And apparently Obito has his own seperate dimension so how he was defeated or even touched is beyond me. Let's also remember that after seeing Obito's face under the Tobi mask Kisame was RELIEVED that Obito was leading them. How the fuck did Kisame know who Obito was and why would he be relieved that it was a random beat up loser. Also why does Tobi even wear a mask? You gotta really think about this one. It would make sense if it was Madara but Obito is a nobody so why even where a mask? At best it's detrimental to his overall goal of impersonating Madara because Madara never wore a mask during his hundred years of covert ops before his death. None of this stuff makes sense.

Nova You may be right about that Mito Uzamaki point but I see you skirted around the fact of the dead ANBU etc. Also your point about Kisame makes no sense. You're implying that some how someone from the ninja world wouldn't know who Madara Uchiha is? Um ok. So he thought he met a man who's been dead for several hundred years and insists on wearing a mask, but Kisame has also seen his face atleast twice and thus knows he looks nothing like Madara (whose picture presumably wouldn't be hard to find). I guess that makes more sense? We also have to remember that Madara was in fact active for several years after his "death" and before he met Obito. So like I said, essentially he was out perfecting his plans and then Obito took over when he got to old and died, but Obito of course needed a mask to pretend to be Madara, but anyone with common sense would question why Madara would need a mask after years of covert ops without one. So it remains counterproductive. I see you skipped a few other details in my post but whatever, I'm sure you didn't find the Minato point "relevant".
