Quick note: kid Naruto in part 1 before training with Jiraiya does not have access to Kurama’s chakra. In fact, Naruto subconsciously has to use his own chakra to strengthen the seal and suppress Kurama. So, kid Naruto is actually handicapped but still has enough chakra to make dozens and dozens of shadow clones. This means; 1) half-Uzumaki have crazy amounts of chakra even as children and 2) befriending Kurama resulted in Naruto, for the first time, having full access to his own chakra as well as Kurama’s. (And sage chakra)

Can we also appreciate how awesome Tobirama was in that he _not only_ created the most utilitarian technique of all time, but that he _also_ likely intimidated the _other_ Hidden Villages into creating _their own_ variations of physical clone technique too? Sunagakure devised the Sand Clone Technique. You won't be mistaking a Sand Clone for anything other than what it is unless you've _also_ met someone who knows how to use the Sand Armor Technique, but Sand Clones are remarkably stable. You don't _need_ to be Shukaku's host to use this technique, since we've seen Sasori use Sand Clones before, but it probably has a formidable chakra consumption. The Magnet Style users of Sunagakure can also make Iron Sand Clones if they have enough chakra. Kirigakure is credited with creating the Water Clone Technique, but this may have also been a development of Tobirama Senju, who was the greatest Water Style practitioner to have ever lived. These are pretty self-explanatory, basically being Shadow Clones made of water, except worse in every conceivable metric. My theory is that Tobirama really did invent Water Clones to try and match Hashirama's Wood Clones, but found them lacking, and so was inspired to create Shadow Clones as a superior alternative. Kumogakure presumably came up with the Lightning Clone Technique, though Kakashi is probably better at it than _they_ are. You don't get your chakra back when they get popped, but only because that chakra was spent by pumping about twenty amps of electricity through the idiot that hit them. Iwagakure has the Rock Clone Technique. Rock Clones are _very_ stable, perfectly capable of taking several heavy blows before crumbling, but I think the chakra expenditure to create them is rather prohibitive. They also likely have the Earth Clone Technique, the Earth Clones being capable of reforming themselves when struck. Earth Clones, however, are more associated with Konohagakure due to being used on-screen by both Hiruzen Sarutobi and Orochimaru.

I don’t actually think Tobirama came up with the Shadow Clone idea for several reasons. Number one we see even as a child Hashirama is seen creating ninjutsu when he runs to Madara confessing I made a new Jutsu attempting to teach it to Madara. I believe that Jutsu was the Shuriken Clone Jutsu that he was attempting to teach Madara. Anyway fast forward to the fight Indra died during. By that point Hashirama had developed Wood Release already which was unique to him meaning he had to make all his techniques. I theorize the Wood Clones preceded the Shadow Clone technique.

They use regular clones to graduate from the ninja academy. Not shadow clones. A normal clone used to graduate from the academy cannot be physically touched, so you wouldn’t be able to actually use it to fight someone, unlike shadow clones. Also, not everybody can use actual shadow clones. Most can only use the regular clone jutsu.

Shadow clone isn't actually Yin nor Yang relase, it is classified only as a supplementary jutsu, nothing more. This information is directly stated in the databooks as well as Naruto wiki.

Well Rock Lee was likely able to pass from the ninja academy because Hiruzen was still the hokage. If we look back at Might guy's ascension it was because Hiruzen allowed him to pass recognizing his skill. I don't know particularly if they relented on that requirement for people without the ability to mold Chakra, but he would have gave approval based on the success of Might guy as a taijustsu specialist and the fact that Lee's instructor would end up being Might guy for that reason. This also calls into question how tenten became a successful ninja because from what I remember, we have only ever seen summon weapons, not actually do anything else with Chakra unless we are saying that the forming of the seal for the weapons is in itself molding chakra.

Might guy was stronger than any other student and could mold chakra he just sucked at that age and as far as ten ten it takes chakra to to summon those tools and skill to use them so when we see her fight temari summoning 100s of tools and using them it only seems whack because when you can blow away any projectile and most people summoning a bunch of projectiles and using a few weapons is pretty useless

@@mikep8811 Guy wasn't stronger than any other student until he actually started training to become Kakashi's rival. Also in terms of the tenten argument, we aren't talking about Chakra reserve but the ability to mold Chakra. So tenten being able to summon isn't an issue of reserve. Summonings depends on the type of summon. Since she summon weapons which hers specifically excluding the sage weapons lack Chakra, it should not take much Chakra to summon them as they are all sealed prior to any engagement. Meaning to unseal the summon it wouldn't require much Chakra. I won't deny Guy being able to mold Chakra, however we can't confirm him being able to mold it or rather mold it properly until he is an adult as he then is also able to use summoning jutsu. Since he trained relentlessly, he didn't have an issue of Chakra reserve because in order to use the 8 inner gates he has to be able to burst the limiters with Chakra (specifically a high capacity) in order to activate each gate. This pulls us away from the Chakra reserve issue and puts us back on the molding issue.

@@mikep8811 Also another thought, my mention of tenten was not to indicate that she was weak because she is quite skilled even when they were younger. The problem with tenten succeeding opposed to Lee deals with her also only being a taijutsu specialist like Lee and Guy. We never see her, from my knowledge, use any jutsu that wasn't based on summoning weapons which is also common to taijutsu specialists. I'm really curious what differentiates her from the other two. If she were comparable to the hyuga it would be different as the gentle first is ninjutsu+taijutsu and they also possess the Dojutsu. I'll have to do some back reading

One thing that's always confused me when it comes to the statement that only Naruto could make as many shadow clones as he does inconsistencies with it. The biggest case that comes to mind is the end of the Zabuza arc when he and Kakashi are holding off those goons. Naruto, fatigued from his fight with Haku, was able to make around 20 Shadow Clones regardless of his condition and Kakashi, even more fatigued with far less chakra than Naruto as he himself stated, was able to make the same amount. Can someone make sense of this?

Well I think the five clones that naruto made were able to fight but the clones that kakashi could make were not able to fight because when kakashi made those he said that I should also give some contribution although it will be a bluff . Although kakashi can make as much as clones as 12 year old naruto because at that time naruto had not much Chakra control he was wasting very much Chakra and kakashi can use his Chakra properly but 16 year old naruto would definitely beat kakashi in making shadow clones Although I still have many because you see reanimated madara uchiha made 25 wooden clones all with susanoo because of infinite Chakra reverses where as tobirama senju the creator of shadow clones who was also a reanimated shinobi with infinite Chakra reserves could only make 2 clones 🤣 That is a very bad and based writing

I am kind of curious, and you discussed this for a bit, but something that's always kind of thrown me in the naruto universe is why the different chakra nature types for clones? Like I suppose with lightning nature or water nature? Like what's the advantage for using say a Water Clone versus a Shadow Clone in the case of Kisame? Why wouldn't naruto infuse his clones with wind energy, that sort of thing? I guess my question is what separates the various clone types in Naruto. If there is a difference between a clone and a shadow clone, then what's the further difference between say a rock clone and a water clone? Is it purely the nature type the user has mastered or is there more?

Most of the Elemental Clone Techniques were probably created _in response_ to Tobirama's Shadow Clone Technique, which cannot be learned outside of the Leaf Village because the scrolls that teach it are on lockdown. The Shadow Clone Technique, in turn, was probably Tobirama's attempt at making a more accessible version of Hashirama's obscenely overpowered Wood Clone Technique; if so, he got reasonably close! Rock Clones are _much_ hardier than Shadow Clones, and _might_ have a limited degree of autonomy, but that's about it. Sand Clones and Iron Sand Clones are also hardier than Shadow Clones, but possess zero autonomy. The Chakra consumption is also prohibitively high; you don't _need_ to be Gaara to use Sand Clones, but the crazy high Chakra capacity makes it more viable. Lightning Clones are close to Shadow Clones, except the Chakra expended to form them doesn't return when the clone is dispelled or destroyed. I suspect a significant range limitation is in play too. I have a theory about Water Clones. Supposedly it was a technique developed by Kirigakure, but I think Tobirama, the greatest Water Style user of all time, invented it too before moving on to Shadow Clones as a better option. Water Clones consume between 5% and 10% of a user's Chakra, and despite their relative autonomy they can't go more than a few yards from the user; this isn't a problem if you have access to lots of water already, and a formidable Chakra capacity, but otherwise limits the utility. Earth Clones are only really used by Hiruzen Sarutobi and Orochimaru, which suggests that it's a jutsu originating in Konohagakure. This suggests further, to me, that this was _another_ attempt by Tobirama to emulate Hashirama's Wood Clones. Naturally, it falls short, but so does _every_ solid clone technique compared to Wood Clones! Long story short, I bet that the Elemental Clone Techniques were attempts to replicate Wood Clones or Shadow Clones; the latter was _definitely_ an attempt to replicate Wood Clones! As to which you'd pick? That depends on your innate Chakra Nature and your Chakra capacity.

They have perfect autonomy, an extended range of operation spanning _miles_ from the user, can tank blows that normally rearrange the local topography of a battlefield, and they apparently don't make an appreciable dent in the user's Chakra reserves! The downside is that you need the Wood Style Kekkei Genkai to use Wood Clones. There are currently three living Wood Style users, but two of them acquired it artificially, and the _legitimacy_ of the last one's acquisition is still up in the air.

I've been saying this for years. Naruto could easily use clones to gather infinite Chakra from toads waterfall like he did with pain and either have clones summon and disburse them when they deplete or simply replace them, because clones can make more clones. Having access to infinite Chakra, he could easily make millions of clones and send them to every inch of the world and learn every single jutsu known to man, and since he also has all tailed beasts Chakra in him, he could also learn specific bloodline abilities as well. His potential is limitless. He could also harness his body in every aspect and with any sort of healing mastery, can never be hurt again. The only thing he would be limited to is dojutsu, because he literally doesn't possess those special eyes. But I have a question. What if a clone got an eye transplant, and then dispursed, would all of the clones plus the original now have the new eye or would the eye simply go away?

One of the most annoying issues present in Boruto with Naruto being an absent father who supplements himself being with his kids with a shadow clone is in literally EVERY instance he does that, he (his actual physical body) could and should be present at home with his family and the shadow clones should be off doing the work needed to be finished as Hokage. Instead, they make Naruto a terrible father who sends a fake version of himself to hang out with his kids while his actual body is in the office doing work when there's no reason for it. Boruto really has lost touch with Naruto as a character to the point it hurts.

Yes, Naruto specifically doesn't always give them even amounts. This is why some poof away from being sneezed on and some can take a few hits. He presumably uses the minimum amount necessary for the clones that gather Sage energy for him, for example. They're safe with the toads. They don't need much chakra.

i think it's also because the other Yin Yang release techniques have barriers to accessing them. Kaguya's jutsu has only been used by her, the sword if I remember can only be accessed if you're the ten tails junchuriki/sage of six paths, truth seeking orbs are something you get once you become the sage of six paths. All of the other yin yang release jutsu we've seen require massive amounts of chakra and have very almost God-tier barriers to learning or accessing them.

Question for the technique: if Naruto makes 9 clones (10% each body) and 1 clone dies, does that 10% split across the remaining 9 bodies or does it return to naruto? Smaller numbers: self, 2 clones 33% split. When 1 clone dies does it go to 50% each, or does naruto get that 33% back making him 66.6% and the other clone remaining at 33.3%?

I always thought that the multi shadow clone jutsu scroll in episode 1 taught naruto a secret to chakra control and efficiency that (if every one could do it) would make wars even worse. Narutos chakra control was progressing even though kurama admitted he was sabotaging narutos training. So narutos chakra control was strong enough that kurama couldnt stop him from progressing. Whatever is on that scroll plus narutos naturally massive chakra pool lets him spam yin yang

About the shadow clone network thing there is a fantastic fanfic about him using shadow clones to do this, it’s called a “drop of poison” and it’s absolute fun chaos. He creates a massive spy network with the jutsu and it’s honestly a joy to read.

Your attack/charge will be aimed at the target, while the clone(s) will be aiming next to the target. Though this could be exploited by something like throwing a kunai with an explosive tag where you have it blow up next to them and don't need a direct hit. I'm sure there are plenty of other ways for the target to deal with that situation. The mindgame meta of this sort of thing probably ran through many different iterations throughout the history of the clone technique being used in shinobi combat.

Flying raijin isn’t really chakra intensive actually. Minato used it so much without being related to ashura that he would die if it did take a lot, not to mention that he constantly used rasengan in tandem with it. It’s just hard to use, make the seals for, you have to be very fast on your own to use them to a point that they are valuable in combat (getting away from an attack that’s moving fast at you, you won’t be able to manipulate chakra that fast with any ease)

I never thought of Shadow Clones as being Shadow and Light Style, but that actually makes a lot of sense, you're pretty sharp. On the topic of the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu, despite it being a forbidden jutsu, some other people besides Naruto have used it for some reason even though it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, including Kakashi, Konohamaru, and Shizune lol.

There's also the fact that a ninjutsu implies an "assassination technique" and really shouldn't ever be repeated because that dulls it's utility and makes the wielder predictable. This name also implies that these jutsu should be finishing moves. That's why Ebisu says that a kage needs to be a master of a thousand jutsu. This means that a kage's opponent would never be able to predict what they are going to do, making them more lethal. Of course both of these tenets are impractical for a manga, as you mention right after referring to the massive number of jutsu in the series.

To pass the ninja academy exam, they only had to perform the “clone jutsu” not the “shadow clone jutsu”.. the first is a non physical clone that is intangible and an easy jutsu to perform. While the shadow clone is a physical clone that can fight and make contact until either released by the Justus caster or destroyed by a strong attack. The entire shadow clone or multi is forbidden because it splits up chakra that’s why neji can’t tell the difference in the chunin exam while a regular clone does not appear like a real person just a hollow copy. In one of naruto eposides there was a jutsu that makes you unable to talk, so talk no jutsu can be stopped using that jutsu, so by using it you're safe... Unless if There's swings around.

I always thought how crazy and underutilized it is that shadow clones can train/learn something and once they disappear, the knowledge or thing gained from learning/training is passed to the original user. Thats gotta be the most busted ability out of everything because theoretically you should learn anything and everything within your chackra nature or anything else non-ninjutsu related. Imagine if Rock Lee could just do 2 or 3 clones. Have them train all the time. 24/7 while he trains also or sleeps even. He should be able to surpass anyone who doesnt do that as well

Edo Tensei I believe was originally created as essentially a suicide bomb, once again as a way for Tobirama to kill the Uchiha. An Edo Summon was brought back to the land of the living and was able to reform from damage and this would be used in line with Tobiramas Tandem explosive tags. As the Edo Summon can reform, the Edo Summon could explode themselves over and over again forever creating an infinite suicide bomb.

They use the Clone Jutsu to graduate not the shadow clone jutsu. Most people can't use the shadow clone because it splits your chakra in half by the amount of clones you make. Your usually on top of stuff like this.

There is the kage bunshin jutsu and there is the Taju kage bunshin jutsu. one makes one pretty useless clone and the other makes many useful clones. It was intended as a spy jutsu.
