An “eddy” is a whirlpool. You can basically think of Kushina’s native village as the Village Hidden in the Whirlpools. Also a neat little connection to Naruto’s name. A Naruto is a spiral shaped cake in ramen and Uzumaki essentially means spiral. Lots of spiral imagery with this family!

That’s also why Naruto has whisker like lines on his face because Kurama being sealed inside Kushina did something to him while he was in her womb, idk if it was his chakra or something else entirely but Kurama had an influence on naruto while he was still in Kushina’s womb and that influence apparently had something to do with him getting those whiskers, Kushina didn’t get them because apparently it was the fact of prolonged exposure (being in the womb) rather than the beast simply being sealed within the host.
