the launch of the James Webb telescope by the French team in Guiana was so precise that Nasa communicated that the telescope would have years of life more than what had been planned ... indeed the propellant on board in the telescope which was intended to periodically readjust the position of the telescope in space, was saved, because it was not used to correct the trajectory! a huge success for Ariane and this team, ESA and CNES are happy, NASA is also happy ... i'm so happy !!

I have friends who posted CGI thinking it was real. 10 billion public money for a telescope - too lazy to show real video of the launch? Do you people really think you are so much better than us that we don't deserve real time documentation? And think about this. Why should any of us believe that the pictures coming back are not also CGI? The launch was CGI, why not the rest of it? We are at the dawn of the age of deep fakes. Even if all this one is above board, someone is going to notice that they are easy to fake. It is only going to get harder from here.

@@oess855 From the point of the rocket entering the clouds. With the exception of a couple of short clips. Everything they showed you was CGI. The picture of the satellite my friend posted and thought was real - was CGI. They had 10 billion in public money to build the thing but only showed CGI of the launch. If this is precedent, that rocket launches can now be CGI movies, then why would anyone spend the money on a the real thing in the future. If the launch is CGI, who is to believe the pictures that come back from it are not CGI? It was unexplained, lazy, uncaring for us little people who paid for it, embarrassing for friends who did not understand.

@gastonpossel
@gastonpossel 2 жыл бұрын
@@vkobevk Hubble pictures are not always strictly in visible light, many of them are "fake" color (they digitally assign a visible color for a wavelenght outside our visual capability). JWST has a much more broader spectrum that Hubble, only none of it in human visible range, but they can do the same color reassignment so we can see awesome pictures (it does not make them any less real). Also, JWST can technically see visible spectrum for very old/far objects, because as the universe expands, light redshifts. So, an image we are detecting here as IR could have been in visible light when the photons left the object (we can compensate for redshift and actually see real colors for it in the picture).

Location on the planet has literally nothing to do with why Ariane V was chosen over other systems, it is a lot less rosy I'm afraid. It was simply ESA's contribution to overall JWST project. Ariane V has the largest fairing size among current launch systems, matched by Atlas V. Atlas V was actually the other option that could have easily put JWST in space, but here's where the previous point kicked in. And yes, it was Buzz. And yes, that was a glorious Saturn punch.

Sorry, But I'd much rather see a tiny part of that $10 BILLION USD (with a B) spent to repair our town's failing water and sewer lines. We'll never see that project finished in my lifetime, just because a few scientists want to satisfy their misplaced curiosity about exoplanets, as if that made a bit of practical difference to humanity. We will never be able to confirm alien life in any scientific sense, at least not within ten thousand lifetimes. No scientific confirmation means no use at all to humanity. No one but me seems to be taking this contrarian view. So there.

What an awesome and historic day! As the moments pass, cheers to all involved for a successful launch! As the days go by, we'll no doubt await for JWST's successful arrival to L2 and deployment of its long-term mission. Definitely a holiday to celebrate!

AWESOME!!! Only one word for it but I've managed to add quite a few more: I've been reading quite a bit about it and the engineering that has gone into it is absolutely mind bending. Looking forward to when the ELT comes online and we'll have two AWESOME telescopes to marvel at. What's with all the negative waves coming out? I'm remined of Kelly's heroes Moriarty. We need a few more Odd Balls to keep these kind of projects alive.
