4:28 I know an example, but it's 3 drivers, and it's F1. The drivers were Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, all 3 getting a 1:21.072 in the 1997 European Grand Prix in qualifying. The tie was broken by seeing which driver set 1:21.072 first, in this case, Villeneuve, so he got the grid position of 1st, Schumacher 2nd, and Frentzen 3rd.

Montoya hitting the jet dryer is by far the rarest. His tire had to blow at the exact time on the rare Occurrence of going full speed under caution
@joeweidemann5305
@joeweidemann5305 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not that unlikely. Logically speaking, pit strategy varies from car to car. So it’s possible they were stretching that set of tires longer to avoid another pit. Mathematical speaking, you’re more likely to blow a tire on the last turn of the last lap (especially as the leader since you had some tight pit strategy) than any other time in the race.

This is a great video! Finishing in the top 20 WHILE upside down? Wow. That JJ Dover save was amazing. That Bowyer Barrel roll was also incredible. A Qualifying tie in any situation is incredibly rare. Oh, come on, drivers take advantage of their #1 pit stall all the time. They should be able to get service under red flag.

the chance of the tire blowing on the last lap is exactly the same as ayone blowing a tire at any point. The raririty of the event isnt affected by it being the last lap or the winners car. in fact, the leader is the one who pushed their tyres too hard and the last lap is when the tires are at their most used. P17 blowing their tyre twice in a race is rare

Qualifying tie: yes! (Kind of.) I don't remember what race it was, but it was during the three-round qualifying era. Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin tied for the cutoff spot in one of the rounds, and there was a bit of a delay as they determined which driver moved on. Pretty sure it was Newman in the end. Would love to know what race that was. It'd be one where Hamlin started 13th or 25th and Newman started farther up.

@RawGator The 1/1,000,000 qualify where people tied exists and is not between 2 drivers but 3 It's European GP in Jerez 1997 where the Formula 1 grand prix is holded. The first setting a time is Jacques Villeneuve in 1:21,072 , 14 minutes later Michael Schumacher does the same exact time, and then in the last 10 minutes Heinz-Harald Frentzen does the same time. The 4th is Damon Hill away from the triple tie just by 58 milliseconds in 1:21,130.

IDK if anyone's mentioned it yet, but that qualifying tie you mentioned reminded me a lot of the qualifying for the European Grand Prix at Jerez, the final round of the 1997 F1 Championship. Jacques Villeneuve(Williams), Michael Schumacher(Ferrari), and Heinz-Harald Frentzen(also Williams) all did the exact same lap time down to the thousandth of a second, all three pulling 1:21.072's. The way the FIA solved that conundrum makes a lot more sense to me and feels more fair than that time in NASCAR you talked about in the video: Jacques set his time first, Michael set his time second, and Heinz-Harald set his third, and so they simply lined them up on the grid in that order. I don't know why they didn't do the same in that NASCAR race. Fun fact: SUPPOSEDLY, someone who monitored the qualifying(so, presumably one or more of the stewards that weekend), knows which one of the three was faster down to the millionth of a second, but it's never been revealed. Probably in part because lap times are "only" counted down to the thousandth of a second, and they don't want to take away from the strange magic surrounding that qualifier, but it would still be fun to know someday!
