That first one... Ricky rudd... Total badass. Raced the following week with his eyes taped open because the g force of the flip caused immense swelling on his face.

If I remember correctly that was during the uno twin 125,s and on Sunday Ricky ran in the 500.

@@richardwilson3400 that’s right. He raced the next day at the 500 with eyes taped up with duct tape so he could see from the swelling. He grew up with my Aunt Lynn and my Uncle Bobby in Chesapeake Virginia. Went to Indian River High School and started out racing Karts funded by the family junk yard backing him financially.

The "metal bumper" on the track was a good throwback back when they races real modified series cars. It wasn't just a tube metal frame with a plastic shell, but a real car. That was a buick regal, many GM G bodies and Ford fox bodies T bird. When they changed the model, in the early 90's, those cars were literally flying.

Nice video. I'm glad the cars are safer now but miss the "old school" cars & racing.
@troygroomes1042 жыл бұрын
The new bodies aren't safer, they are a fire hazard as nascar was told in an interview in Japan during an exhibition race in January at Fuji speedway
@kykrazy60502 жыл бұрын
@@troygroomes104 They may not be THE safest race cars but the most definitely are safer, as an example...halon fire suppression system opposed to no fire suppression system at all. Also, the "Newman" bar, and not really a safety feature ON the car, but implemented just the same...HANS device. Also no more open faced helmets.

I think that’s why people loved him so much, he was such an aggressive driver and didn’t care about safety or anything besides winning the race. I didn’t watch like any of his races from back in the day but I know he was reckless. Not cool to joke about his death, but he kinda had it coming with how hard he raced. I admire his drive to win (no pun intended) but you can only be so reckless for so long before something bad happens to you. May he Rest In Peace.

@@zacksmathers2689 Not to mention that there were several incidents with the older cars of parts flying over the catch fences, off into the stands and seriously injuring spectators. Race cars flying apart when they crash is the last thing you want to happen.

@@zacksmathers2689 No deaths since big E is bc of the head restraints, the head supports inside the car, and soft walls I guess I could have it wrong about these cars.
