Does nascar hate Innovation or only Ford
It 1987 and the Simpsons debuted, but the bigger news is that Bill Elliot set the one lap record at Talladega. How do Nascar reward his accomplishment? restrictive plates!
1969 - Woodstock just happens , Richard petty drives a Ford … Mopar has cars with massive wings and aero before it was a thing … but also Ford produces a hemi - which dominate the track… but to in the name of fairness … by 1973 nacasr decides to limits size to 358… coincidental the size of a bored out sbc
1965 - Ford develops a little monster called the 427 SOHC. Ford thinks that putting the cam on top of the head might work better . … nascar immediately sees this as far to exotic and bans OHC forever. Remember folks a harbor frieht predator motor is ohc and they cost about a nickel.
But the one that really scared the snot outta them was this little strange looking blower… Yep you probably never seen one that looks like this, but this is now a common power adder…and Nascar banned it …. Forever
Let’s take. Look at the car that struck fear into nascent and started the decent of the sport to today’s sticker headlights nothing stock about a stock car reality … it’s time to look at the original intimidator - the 1957 Ford f code

NHRA is as bad when it comes to ruling against Ford's. They changed Pro Stock because of Bob Gliddons and the other Cleveland cars total dominance of the class. Since then the class couldn't be more boring. They should call it pro Camaro. You watch, they'll do the same to factory stock to stop the Cobra Jets. NASCAR has frustrated me for years with it's ruling against Ford's when they show any dominance. It's as if they see GM dominance as the natural order of things and rules must change if they are not. One of my favorite Ford's is the 57. My Father had a custom 300 with a 292. I can see the look of joy on his face when he would take me out to a country road and get on it. I have been a NASCAR fan since the 50's because it is one of the racing venues where Ford has been able to compete and win on a regular basis that is until the General or To-Jo says they are too fast and something has to be done to slow them down. The Ford Cleveland of Elliott and Robert Yates was chocked down with restrictors until the General came out with their own staggered valve head with the SB2. NASCAR will never allow Fords to dominate again as long as Rick Hendrick has something to say about it. When Jeff Gordon was hired by Rick Hendrick he asked if they would be building Ford cars and Hendrick told him he does not own any Ford dealerships. Jeff was driving a Ford in the Bush series when he got Hendricks's attention.

57’ Thunderbird called “battle bird“ modified for Ford by Peter De Paolo Engineering in Long Beach, California, to compete in the 1957 Daytona Speed Weeks events. The cars were heavily modified, with aluminum skins for hoods, doors, trunk lids and custom tonneau covers. Engines were moved lower and further back in the chassis, suspensions were strengthened and four-speed Jaguar transmissions were used. With a supercharged Ford 312 cubic-inch V-8, this car was clocked at over 200 mph, but mechanical problems prevented a second run, eliminating the mandatory averaging of two runs to determine an official speed. With a quick change of engine, the car then competed in an airport road race in New Smyrna, just north of Daytona. Driven by Marvin Panch, the car beat the Corvettes in the race, which was its mandate, but finished second to Carrol Shelby in a 4.9 Ferrari. A racing ban by the Automobile Manufacturers Association of its members was soon instituted, ending the car's racing career after one race. Today let’s hope the Cobra Jets don’t get banned in NHRA factory stock since they’re easily out running the competition.

I've heard TV announcers several times throughout the years, we have to slow them Fords down. Then turn around and say how great the 350 gm Motors are. Stuff like, it's the engine to which all others measured by. I've seen rule changes and bias in gms favor it's sickening. They Were and are going to make sure they win one way or the other. You can thank gm for the restricted engines in Nascar. I quit watching a long time ago. gm has deep pockets and uses them to make sure they have the rule in their favor. This is just scratching the surface in things they have pulled over the years. You think more folks should be aware of this stuff.

NASCAR banned the 351 Cleveland 4 barrel head engines(1970-19740. They ran 2.19 valves, but NASCAR let Ford run the 2 barrel heads with 2.08 valves. 351 Cleveland closed chambered heads produced more horsepower than any other engine in history. Thus let's ban it from racing. Fords run a 1997 conventional small block in NASCAR today, not a cammer engine or Coyote. The Bodine brothers in 1998 qualified 4th with a cammer engine and NASCAR banned the car. Steve Saleen built his P7 race car around a 351 Clevor, Cleveland heads on a 351 Windsor block, because the oiling passages were better, and Chevy had the car penalized by adding weight. Chevy complained in 2015 and 16 about the new Ford GT's, so FIA restricted the boots and added up to 180 pounds of weight, per race, to slow them down. I have not heard FIA adding weight to the new mid engine C8 Corvettes. Surprising to hear Chevy complain a lot.

Nice to see a well sorted survivor 😊 My cousin said it was too much money, so he stuffed a 383/TqFlyte out of a wrecked police car into his 57 2-door. I stayed with the Y blocks because they grunt so well on the street. Gotta wind a Chevy. The blower was added to overcome the smaller stacked ports on the Y block heads. Love the car. My first car in 1963 in HS was a 1955 2dr customeline Ford with a 57 312ci Tbird motor with 3speed on the floor, and had gas cap cut-out dumps. Was a blast to drive in HS. Also another good Ford memory. My dad bought a 57Ford new with the 312ci motor with 2 4-barrel carbs. My current hope is live long enough to see my dream build. I plan to buy the new gas 7.3 liter Godzilla motor, and put it in s earlier ford, maybe a Ranchero or 72 Torino. Also in consideration is the big fin 57 Lincoln. And one last thought, I once owned a 62 corvette that had a 70 LT1 350 motor in it. I would consider building a 7.3 ford powered 62 Corvette. Absolute karma for all the hotrodders that have put small block Chevys in older Fords. Again loved that great 57 Ford

The restrictor plate was brought on because of the `1987 Talladega crash where Boddy Allison car right rear tire blew and sent the car flying towards the front stretch grandstands ripping the catch fence and sending parts of the car into the crowd. Not because they were trying to slow Bill or the other fords down. This is coming from a diehard Ford and Bill Elliott guy.

Do you always believe everything you're told? There are many examples here of Ford innovation that got banned by NASCAR. And for your information cars were still flying off the ground and in the catch fences even with restrictor plates and the small block engines. I can recall Brad Keselowski slamming into the back of Carl Edwards car in the final turn at Talladega as Edwards was leading the race. Edwards flew right into the catch fence.

When GM bought a percentage interest in NASCAR, the favoritism toward Chevy in particular never ceased. Even in Earnhardt’s day, if Ford won more than two races in a row, he would be seen after the race stating that NASCAR “was gonna have to do something about the Ford’s.” And they always did. I have not watched NASCAR for years because the only thing thing that separates them from the WWE/WWF is the speed at which they run around the ring.

Nascar has always screwed Ford. Every time Ford had any type of advantage, they changed the rules to benefit GM. When GM had an advantage, they seemed to let it ride. Even as late as the splitter/front floor pan in the Mustang got hammered because they were winning. They also screwed Elliot when they banned his heads. They screwed Mark Martin and Roush to give Earnhardt the championship one year. It gets old and has been for a long time.

Also in 1957 Thunderbirds and Rancheros were equipped with the supercharger. Chevrolet people are going hate me but I don't give a flying rats ass. but all though out the history of NASCAR. Ford was producing chassis and engines and tons of components that were better than anyone else. Bill Elliot's 212 MPH speed record still holds even today. and even more recently Ford wanted to use over head cam engines. and NASCAR said no because Chevrolet still only had push rod engines. and some time back the Ford teams came up with the FR1 racing engine. which ran much cooler, which meant that they could tape much more of the front of the car for more downforce. but it wasn't too long before NASCAR ended that and gave GM the chance to catch up. I used be a huge NASCAR fan but, after watching NASCAR keep holding the fords back and because of all the rule changes. I became disichanted with NASCAR and I'm no longer a NASCAR fan. I have to say this because it's true, the greatest driver that ever turned a steering wheel in NASCAR was Davie Allison. but we will never know because he was killed outside a track in a helicopter crash. and just to prove that NASCAR was prejudice against Ford. it's a fact that Ford was dominant in other forms of racing. like the program that Carroll Shelby had in Europe. that was authorized by Ford Motor Company. and with his Mustangs and Cobras that were winning races left and right. and the infamous Ford GT 40s that won 1st 2nd 3rd at LaManns in 1966. and Budd Moore and other teams that were racking up wins with Mustangs. in SCCA sanctioned racing series and the list goes on and on. I've always liked 57 Ford they are lower sleeker and handled better than 57 Chevy's. something I'm curious about what kind exhaust system does that 57 coupe have on it? because that's the best sounding Y block I've ever heard.

The same thing happens Down Under in V8 touring cars. Strangely, everytime Ford starts to get on top, they (GM-Holden) kneecap them. Ford were killing them with the GT Falcons until CAMS permitted V8 motors in small Toranas to gain a power/weight ratio over the larger bodied Ford Falcons w/351 Clevos instead of running their large bodied Monaros. Ford still managed to compete but didn't dominate. This trend continued all the way up to the introduction of Mustangs (after the Lima Declaration finally caught up and killed the Falcons/Commodores), again Ford being stifled to accommodate GM. Never forget it was Ford that took on Ferrari and kicked their @$$ FOUR years in a row at Le Mans!

I'm a Ford guy, but the Y-Block engines were no match for the Chevrolet V8's. The Supercharger was about all they could do. Wouldn't be a match for a supercharged Chevy. Fwiw... I think NASCAR also banned Chevrolet's Fuel-injected cars too. But yeah... NASCAR totally sucks up to Chevrolet. Whenever Ford gets a leg up, the Bowtie boys cry and NASCAR does whatever is necessary to give Chevrolet the edge back. I also remember the NASCAR Taurus scared the Hell out of the Chevy boys. It was only a couple of races into the season, and the Taurus had yet to actually win a race. But Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon cried about the Taurus tracking them down in the turns and they couldn't keep up. Naturally, NASCAR immediately stepped in and fixed the Ford advantage. Just once I'd like to see NASCAR step in and dumb down a Chevy when they are dominating. But alas... NASCAR sucks these days. I don't follow it since they ruined it

I just found this post. I'm nearing 80 years old and was a Ford man from the get go . I started building Flatheads when I was 15 , my pops own a wrecking yard and auto repair shop, so I had an up on most because of that. I of course knew about that super charged Ford. I built my first real fast rod with a 312 out of a wrecked 57 station wagon. I took it down, did a .40 over bore, Crane Cam, Headwork done by a buddy of my Dad a machinist who raced dirt track, 4 Barrel Holley, 4:11 rear, and put it into a light 54 2dr. post Ford Mainline. Could not l keep a tranny in it. So went the Ford dealer got an 63 and 1/2 all synchro 3 speed stuck a racing clutch in it and that baby was very quick If there are any Chevy guys from around Tacoma/Puyallup WA in 1961 to 1964 we might have met at a stop light or two.
