Even in standard trim these early Commodores were quite a well balanced car. I owned a VB model with 3.3 litre 6 and I used to really flog it on dirt roads. Steering was always predictable. The only problem as a young driver is that it made me a little too confident. Eventually I wrecked it totally after hitting a washout on a gravel road at high speed ( for the conditions) rolling several times then sliding into a table drain. 😊

My dad at one stage had a vc sle commodore with a nascar engine in it, he was the only one in Australia to have it at the time until he sold the engine and it must of ended up in the famous burnout car the “vk nascar commdore 9500 rpm! Wish he still had it

Supercar engines have been 5 litres since before they were called supercars, individual throttled since 1991 and built for 7500RPM, nascar are a 358 cube engine that runs a single plane manifold and turns at 9000rpm. The fact the basic architecture is fords motorsport block and GMs motorsport block respectively means jack shit. They are completely different.

You try keeping that thing straight lol and the suspension is higher and softer because it has to be for that racing. Lower down and stiffer suspension and it would skate around as much.

Peter Hannenbergers VB Commodore chassis with its TRW power steering box and heavy duty upper strut/ five link rear suspension was designed for the Chevy V8. Its just the way it should have come in 1978. Were livin in Stralia. VH Commodore.... Vonderbar....
