13:02 its a OPEL MANTA , its a GERMAN BRAND from the 80,s

Manta 400 and Ascona 400 (which is the same plattform) are often overlooked when it comes to Group B. Even with Walter Röhrl winning 1982 WRC drivers title with Opel team and Ascona 400.

@Jeff-ue1rk A German Model from the 80's my dear.😘 A Manta B but I don't know if it was a GSi or B400 or if there was even a special 'Rally' model as homologisation of it. 😀🙃 Opel is (still) the brand.😄☺

The WRC cars actually have to be road legal. Cause between the special stages they have to go on public roads. So they have license plates and the mandatory safety equipment. That means it should be quite easy to get one to the USA. It has been talks about a rally in Tennessee. And as far as I have read they did some testing there earlier this year.
@kuno468611 ай бұрын
From the Years 1973 - 1988 and 2006 - 2018 was the Olympus Rally mostly around Tacoma Washington in 86 , 87 and 88 the Rally even had a World Cup Status before and after atleast a National Cup Status so it shouldnt be a problem to get the Rally (WRC) back to the US
@panteaflorin5 ай бұрын
In Europe they are legal, cuz they have plates.

If you drive that in America. Then you will be stopped by every officer. Because they want to see it up close. I myself had a Nissan Micra 1.3 l SRI (all red letters). Year of construction 1998. 840 kg. And my father-in-law who was a workshop manager at our local Nissan dealer. 134 hp. The counter went to the end and stayed there vibrating. Greetings from Spakenburg, Netherlands.

We have a rich history of Tarmac & some gravel rallies. The passion that exists in Ireland is massive and we are all very proud of it. 👌☘️✨👏

12:42 This is an Opel Manta 400 Group B. Opel is the brand owned by GM in Germany, as is Vauxhall in the UK. The Opel Manta was a common car in the 70s to 80s in Europe. This is the 2nd version (from 1976 to 1979) of a first, more elegant version of the car introduced in 1970. The name comes from the Manta ray, for the 1st version the plunging hood protruding beyond the grille and the sleek body to remind a Manta ray, also conveyed by the emblem of that fish (a shark exactly) on the front fenders make it a future youngtimer. But for some strange reason the Manta 2 (like this Group B) has a sort of cult in certain Eastern European countries because it represents the cheap silhouette of a racing car, a kinda European Corvette Stingray, always that 🦈😉, they say, in obvious bad taste but that's what made it so successful in that particular cryptic cult. I already saw the original video once but your reaction videos are always refreshing, keep it up man 👍

Been enjoying your enthusiasm for the art of Rallying. It certainly is a visceral experience when actually there in person. My fondest memory was spectating the UK Lombard RAC rally, Welsh stage in a snow covered Clogeinnog Forest. I dropped my thermos flask down the bank we were stood on. I risked slipping down to retrieve it but immediately heard the marshalls whistle and the bangs and pops of an incoming car. I grabbed the flask and turned to scramble up the bank, just as Carlos Sainz blasted past in his Toyota Celica GT. He spat a small rock straight into the back of my head, flattened me to the bank, dropping my flask, which this time shattered the glass innards. Happy times 😂 I hope you get to experience it yourself one day 👍

something that you might not realise about europe and definitely northern ireland is that car dealerships dont really exist in the sameway they do in the usa, most used cars are sold on website like auto trader and gumtree, ive never bought from a dealership and ive owned 10 cars, getting a used car at a dealership is significantly less common than in the usa so car dealerships are a bit more specality or niche. Oc dealerships for new cars, lease rentals are there etc

My 2nd and 4th cars were MkII Escorts [ '76 1,100 and limited 1,300 'Linnet' ] and had a share in a 1,600 sport for a while. With a Mini 1,000 Super Deluxe as my first car and the 1,100 MkII Escort for my second I feel I lived in the best times. The go-kart handling and front drive Mini taught you to drive fast in corners and the Escort taught you to drift in icy carparks. Both cars 4 speed stick and the synchros were blown in 2nd on the Mini so I learned to heel-toe in my first car and double de-clutch. [ no granny-shifting here. BTW Ian, somehow I'm un-subb'd. I'll hit that button again brother.

13:55 is the Nissan. S12 wasn't the best chassis, but they look so stinkin' 1980s cool. Girlfriend I had in college had one, here in the US (sold as the 'original' 240sx) they were equipped to be kind of a Japanese version of the Chevy Monte Carlo. Soft suspension, low HP motors, and acres of velour in the interior. IIRC, it had a pretty kicking sound system for the day, though. Nice boulevard cruiser. When she let me drive it through campus, girls would try to pick me up right in front of her! First time I saw one in a rally video back then, I had another "..yeah, they never bring their best stuff over here.." moment (common sentiment among US import car fans). Edit: oh, man..I screwed it up! chassis isn't S12, it was the old S110. My fault, look for those instead to see what they looked like over here.

Ian, imagine you had the chance and the means to go buy one of those. Come on, wouldn't you choose the Skoda Fabia R5 WRC over any of the other cars? Subarus, Mitsubishis, Toyotas, Audis, Fords, everyone knows them in the US but the Fabia would turn a lot of heads, that's for sure! 😉
